Chapter Three

"I can show you the world."

You were happily working on the garden, the flowers always brightening up the misery of having to wake up at six o'clock in the morning.

'The servant life would suck way less if I wasn't the one living it.'

Feeling the earth in hand all the while watching the suns celestial body coat everything in gold was a pretty nice perk of the early rising though, and it was very heartwarming to see a few ladybugs on the acanthus leaves.

Though the start of the day had passed quickly and absent-minded as usual you failed to notice the clock turning to ten and failed to clock the blonde scowling at you.

"You accompanied Jonathan to the boxing match." The boy behind you finally said and you nearly jumped out of your skin at the sudden awareness.

"Um yeah, not to flex but like, I go to all of his matches." You quickly stood off of the ground and bowed slightly. "What do you need, sir?"

"Are you and Jonathan very close?" You felt your fingers stiffen at the marigold blonde's malice but you quickly hid any spite with a forced, servant smile.

'I'd get paid more for emotional labour if it was known about in the Victorian times.' You thought bitterly.

"I'd like to think so sir." Dio scowled more at the sudden brightness of your smile, then quite surprisingly any trace of ill intentions melted off him and he smiled at you.

"You must be good company then...?" The Brando boy grinned and while you were suspicious of the sudden personality change you couldn't lie and say that he didn't have one of the most charming smiles you'd ever seen.

"(Y/N) (L/N), gardener extraordinaire, sir." You were tempted to offer out a handshake but the thought of accidentally being too friendly with someone of a higher class than you stopped you.

"(Y/N)," Although it was just your name being said you felt your face heat up at the way the marigold blonde had said it, "Would you like to go on a walk with me, gardener extraordinaire?"

Had pretty people always been so convincing? You knew you were probably coming off as naive, maybe just being naive straight up, considering that the friend punching boy seemed to be up to no good but you really liked the way he said your name and you really liked the way his eyes had the colour of monarch butterflies in the sunlight.

"That sounds lovely, thank you, sir."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You weren't entirely sure why you'd been invited on the walk. Although it was charming, you knew he wasn't that interested in talking to you so much as... talking about himself? Something about excelling at everything he does and how Jojo couldn't even eat right.
Nonetheless, you let the pretty adopted son of George Joestar try and convince you to abandon the pretty biological son of George Joestar, something of which you had no intention. It's always nice when someone talks about their passions, even if that passion is being superior over blueberry haired brits.
"You are enchanting aren't you?" You hadn't meant to say that allowed and you certainly hadn't meant to come off as some dreamy fool, "Oh! I'm sorry if I've interrupted you."
"No, no it's fine," Dio's eye twitched slightly before smirking at what you had said, maybe it would be easier to manipulate you than expected, "I suppose you're not upset about the boxing match?"
"Not really, sir, it was a fight which you both went into willingly and you fought fairly. Though the way you treated Danny is pretty shitty sir."
Dio faltered slightly, of course, you were also there with the mutt. He would've realised it was the same servant sooner if you hadn't looked so roughed up at the time, damn. Pushing down any anger he quickly lied, "I was merely defending myself by habit. You won't hold it against me I hope, (Y/N)?"
"No, I will." You blinked and realized you had just responded without thinking about it again, "Uhh... Growing up in London must've been shot up the bale, huh? I heard even the little children are pickpockets and all the water is as rotten as a corrupt heart. Actually growing up in that sort of environment probably affected your temper..."
"I usually have much better control of such things as impulses and anger." The blonde said, not acknowledging anymore of your words with anything more than a flutter of his eyelashes as he blinked.
"There are worse things than impulse and anger sir. Nothing to worry about! Unlike diseased fog, is it true London's covered in it?" You responded, not so smoothly moving the conversation away.
"Oh? Yes, the whole place is covered in smog, I'm glad to be rid of it." You were confusing, Dio would admit, but that was probably due to faults in your intelligence and not his own.
"I'd be glad too! Golly, I can't even imagine not getting to look at the sky when I want to." Despite the grand gesture you made of pointing to the sky, Dio didn't seem overwhelmingly bothered by the blue pigment scattered above you.
"Alas, looking at the sky is a privilege I've never had the chance to enjoy." Dio was still trying his best to be cheery in the face of this idiot's adversity but it was getting harder to hide any annoyance as you got more excited.
"Well, you're in luck Dio! I'm an expert at looking at the sky! Now that you're living with the Joestars it's my job to make sure you enjoy every privilege you can take from this world." Before the marigold blonde had time to scowl at the enthusiasm, you had (as politely as you could) taken his hand and pulled the both of you down to lay on the nicest patch of grass you could quickly find close to the path.
"What are you doing, you oaf?" Dio's anger spiked, now on the ground like some kind of impotent worm and he glared at your grinning face.
You paid no mind, laughing and grabbing Dio's chin with a hand and turning his face to look at the cloud speckled sky proclaimed, "Dio Brando, I give to you the heavens above as far as you can see it!"
With his newly widened eyes, Dio looked up at what you had proclaimed as heaven. And heavenly it was, with nothing blocking the celestial view the marigold blonde was able to take a first, genuine look at the sky.
Surely all the earth rejoiced to have a companion as beautiful as the sky. Such an expanse of sapphire and azure and fluffy looking clouds. It looked so peaceful up there, Dio felt some small happiness slip into his soul at the sight. Contentment moved through him just as easily as the wind through the expanse of blue above him.
However, Dio was quickly brought back to his previous anger as you moved your hand away from his chin but he grabbed your wrist and turned towards you furiously.
"How dare you touch I, Dio, with your unworthy, filthy hand!" The sharp tone seemed to only double the pressure on your wrist and you frowned.
"Sorry, sir, I'd never touch you with dirty hands though! Worst case is that you'll end up smelling of flowers, honest sir." You tried taking back your hand but Dio's grip only tightened. It was true though, Dio had thought it was just the smell of the garden he found you in but it seemed you carried the sweet floral scent with you and had now passed it onto him. His grip on you probably wasn't helping.
'The whole grabby thing kinda hurts. Asshole.'
"Who are you to decide what is dirty? You work in filth do you not? Get out of my sight." Upon releasing your wrist Dio watched as you quickly stood up and bowed before leaving, silently seething.
"I'll make sure to respect your boundaries next time sir, aside from that, fuck off and look at the clouds again. It'll help calm you down, try breathing deeply as well... Bitch."
Calling the garden you worked on filthy
may not have been the best move in the plan of trying to win you over and separating Jonathan from his last remaining friend.
Dio scowled at the retreating figure before huffing himself back into a laying position, looking at the sky who had watched the ordeal. Damnable sky, damnable temper, damnable (Y/N).
Who would win? Homicidal blonde Victorian boy vs some plant-obsessed sky simp.
