I swept my long, chocolate brown hair into a messy ponytail as I usually did to keep it out of my eyes. I stared long and hard out my bedroom window from my desk, my surroundings sadly never changing.
The same scenery is taking it's toll on me. Ever since I graduated high school, I realized just how repetitive life can be once you have the time to pay attention. I go from home, to my dad's offices, and home again. Maybe I needed some excitement or maybe I needed to change something in me. I should be more open minded. I need to break this cycle and schedule, I know my dad wants me to have fun this summer.
I don't see much of my dad anymore, especially around here. I'm convinced he is seeing his assistant again, the woman he cheated on my mother with. Maybe I shouldn't blame him completely, though.
I sigh, looking out the large windows. The gentle rain had stopped, much to my surprise. I could see the large Oak softly brushing against another tree, the neighbors sitting in their back patio protected by that large umbrella. It seems like the rest of the world moves, but not me.
"I think I'm gonna lose my fucking mind," I suddenly say, blinking hard at the two people in their yard, "Old people are so weird."
Thoughts of my ex boyfriend managed to cloud my thoughts as I stood from my desk chair. I admired myself in the mirror, taking in my reflection. It had been a mistake for him to leave me, I'm sure it was. My thin fingers combed through my long hair, a small smile playing on my lips as if I was thinking of more pleasant things. I knew he was seeing someone new, and as much as it bothered me, I knew he'd eventually be back. It's not like I personally ever gave him a reason to not want to be together, he simply took me for granted. Besides, his new girlfriend was very plain in comparison to me.
He just wasn't ready for commitment.

My father was home at around 7pm, as usual. Instead of his typical tired demeanor, he came in ordering the maids around. Tonight was the night, he had said, I'm having associates over.
I knew what that meant. For me, him inviting his associates (aka golf buddies) meant two things; for starters I'd probably end up slipping some of my dad's expensive whiskey up to my room, and two, I'd probably have my way with James as I usually did on nights like these.
James was my father's best friend. They grew up together on some dead beat town and managed to get out to live a more lavish lifestyle. James had first kissed me when I turned 15 and our relationship took off really. He's a wonderful man, but that wife of his can be a downer.
"What time will they be here?" I ask my father, watching him closely as he pours himself a drink.
"Soon. Don't be a bother tonight, Anastasia, you know I hate that," he watches me pout and I pretend I'm affected. "Besides, Emily and Daisy are coming along as well. I know you've never gotten along with them."
That's because you cheated on mom with Emily and James cheats on Daisy with me.
My father shooed me off immediately after the door bell rang. I knew I'd get my way even with Daisy here, she wasn't an idiot. My dad however, really was a damn fool.
The white front door opened and men in suits began to walk in. At first I was disappointed with the turn out, until I saw him.
The unknown man watched me sitting at the top of the staircase, his lips etched into a frown. He appeared sophisticated, like most of the other men did, but there was something else about him.
