Chapter 7 - The Child

Sam woke up by a disturbing sound. Not the TARDIS materializing though, something Sam couldn’t make out as good as bad. Sam has been awakened a lot recently by things she didn’t like. This morning, however, Dam didn’t know what to make of it. It was a child’s laughter that woke her up.
“What the Hell…” She muttered angrily to herself as she sat up and looked around. The child laughed again, but it echoed around the room. Sam threw off the covers and got to her feet. She walked over to her door, well, more like stomped with all the sleeps she’s missing. She threw open the door to see the others already staring down the hall.
“I want some sleep! Whatever it is, figure it out!” She yelled before slamming her door shut and went back to bed. Her companions looked at each other with surprise.
“Remind me never to wake her up at 3AM.” Toby said with a fast nod. The laughter erupted again and the companions sighed.
“What on Earth could that be?” Allen muttered, still sleepy.
“We’re not on Earth, genius.” Vincent threw back at him, just as tired. They went to the console room where the unit was flickering lights.
“Would you like to play a game with me?” A little girl’s voice asked from the console.
“The TARDIS is a little girl. No wonder she gets what she wants.” Roni said with a shake of his head. The voice chuckled.
“I’m not the TARDIS, dummy.” She said with a giggle. Roni frowned.
“Did she just call me stupid?” He asked in disbelief, more to himself.
“Who are you?” Allen asked the air. Not mad looking at all.
“I am the Child. Hehehe.” She giggled before a breeze went through the console room.
“Why are you here, young Child?” Owen questioned.
“I wanted to play because I never had time to.” Allen frowned.
“What do you mean you never had time? Did your parents do something?” He asked.
“Well, no. But I don’t want to talk about it. I just want to play until my time is up!” She said, cheerfully.
“What do you want to play then?” Toby asked, sounding cheerful. There was a humming in the air.
“I don’t know! I want to play on swings!” She said and Toby nodded.
“Alright then. We’ll get the TARDIS to create a playground. How’s that?” Toby asked.
“Yay!” She cheered before another wind came in and a ghostly figure appeared. She wore a plain white plain shirt and a black skirt with red robes over them. The red robes had golden linings. Her shoes were flats and were the colour of gold. Her hair was a darkish brown, hanging to the base of her neck. Her eyes were a greyish blue. She was short, incredibly short. She could hardly pear over the console unit when on her toes, but because she was more of a ghost then a solid figure, she floated a little.
“You guys should go get some sleep, I’ll play with her.” Toby told them and they hesitantly nodded.
“You sure?” Allen asked and he nodded.
“Sure. I can finally figure out if I’m good with kids.” He said with a nod and a chuckle.
“I’ll join you.” Simon said and Toby nodded.
“Well, good luck then.” Allen said before they all left. They all knew that those two would get less sleep than them, so they wouldn’t question if they wanted to sleep later on, when this entire situation was resolved. A ghost child randomly appeared, and they haven’t been more clam. There’s a lot of things they’ve encountered that are much worse. Simon walked to the underside of the console and assisted with the TARDIS in creating a room which held everything a child could dream of. Once they finished, all three of them went there. The girl gasped at the sight once they stood at the door. She didn’t hesitate, she ran/floated inside as fast as she can and jumped onto the swings.
“Come and push me!” She said with a small laugh. Simon went over and started pushing her while Toby sat in the swing next to her. The little laughed the entire as she was swung.
“Tell me Child, how did you end up here?” Toby asked, starting to push for information.
“The Dream Miss!” She answered with a laugh.
“Who’s the Dream Miss? Do we know her, young Child?” Simon asked her.
“I don’t you know her. She came to me in a dream, that’s why I call her Dream Miss!” She answered with a cheer as she started to go higher.
“What did she tell you?” Toby questioned her, swinging himself a little.
“She told me to play until my time is up!” She answered as she was suspended in the air for a second longer for she was swinging is high now.
“And when will your time be up?” She didn’t answer, merely smiled. Toby sighed.
“What did the Dream Miss look like?” She hummed in though.
“She looked nice! And pretty!” She said and Toby chuckled a bit.
“How did she look pretty, young Child?” Simon asked her.
“She wore a pretty white dress! Like a princess would! Yeah! She was a princess! She had blonde hair, it looked so pretty!” She said and cheered.
“I want off. I want to play in the sand!” She said cheerfully and Simon slowly let her down. Toby simply jumped off. Once the Child was on her feet, she dashed towards the large sand pit. Toby and Simon slowly walked over. When they reached her, she was already building what looked to be a city, but didn’t look like a normal city. Never mind that, he was incredibly skilled. She made everything with detail and accuracy. She created things sand wasn’t supposed to be able to create. It defied gravity.
“How are you doing that, young Child?” Simon questioned with surprise. She didn’t answer. Toby knelt down and sat on the sand, but away from her to not damage what she’s busy creating.
“Where’s your parents?” Toby asked.
“Don’t have any.” She answered with a sad smile.
“Why not? What happened to them?” Simon asked. She raised and dropped her shoulders.
“Don’t know. They told me mummy and daddy didn’t want me. I think they lied though.” She told them, making them confused.
“Who told you that?” Toby asked. She stayed silent. Simon then sat down in the sand as well. Toby and Simon, to pass the time in which the Child made her city, they also created sand figures. Simon tried to recreate his garden, oh how he failed. Toby tried to make a simple sand castle, but it flopped. The Child laughed at them.
“I want to go to the beach!” She said and stood up, running in the direction waves were heard from. This room had every child’s dream world inside, of course there’d be a beach. And an amusement park, can’t forget that. Toby and Simon followed her, and when they reached her, she was totally soaked. Her robes and all were soaked, but that didn’t stop her.
“Come on!” She encouraged them. Simon shook his head rapidly.
“No thank you, young Child.” She rolled her eyes and stomped out of the ocean and to them. She grabbed them by the wrist and pulled them by the wrists into the ocean. It surprised them to feel how strong this little girl actually was. They were pushed into the ocean, soaking wet instantly. When they stood up from the water, they heard her laughing. She looked like she was having the time of her life, just laughing at the strange two alien boys.
“Who are you, really?” Toby asked her and she shook her head.
“Don’t wanna tell you!” She said, sticking out her tongue and running out of the ocean and away from the beach. Toby groaned as he and Simon followed. They ran around the entire world in search of her, and finally found her, running through a grass field. She was still soaking wet, as was the boys. She ran around with her arms at her side, pretending to be a bird or aeroplane.
“This is so much fun!” She suddenly stopped and looked at them with a sly smile.
“Are there roller coasters here?” She asked and Toby and Simon looked at each other, worriedly. The rest of the day, they played together and explored the entire world the TARDIS had created for them. Toby and Simon had totally forgetting about needing sleep or food, they were enjoying themselves with this little, strange, ghostly girl. The Child went back to the sand pit multiple times and created an entire world. They laid on the grass field at the end of the day, that’s when the rest joined them. The doors opened and they all entered. Sam looked around the room in amazement.
“Wow TARDIS, this must be some girl.” Sam walked up the small hill to the grass fields, the others following. As soon as she spotted the small girl, her face turned to one of sadness.
“Hello.” She slowly said.
“Hello.” The girls repeated, floating upwards to her height. Sam smiled at the little girl, and the girl smiled as well.
“How long?” Sam asked her.
“None.” She answered and a sudden bright light blinded them. Sam turned to see a girl, wearing a white beautiful formal night gown with a floral pattern worked into it. Her hair was blonde, a beautiful colour than hung to her shoulder blades. Her eyes were a greyish green that showed many emotions, if not all. Sam recognized her immediately, just as she recognized the little girl.
“Regeneration does make things confusion, huh?” Sam asked and the girl smiled.
“I agree. It’s funny seeing myself again.” She answered. The others wanted to question it but they could figure it out for themselves. The girl was her future regeneration.
“Can I ask a number?” Sam asked and the girl smiled, elegantly.
“I am the last and the first.” She answered, making Sam frown.
“That doesn’t make sense.” She said.
“You will find out later, for you still have a long journey ahead of you, a long one indeed.” She said and looked to the small girl.
“Did you enjoy yourself? You ready to go back now?” She asked her, and the Child hesitantly nodded with a small smile. She turned to look at Toby and Simon.
“It was fun meeting you two! I can’t wait to officially met you!” She said, giving them a quick hug before turning to Sam. She pouted.
“You’re lucky.” She said before rushing to the future Sam and taking her had. A light blinded the mall again before they disappeared.
“I’m confused.” Owen admitted. Sam started walking toward the sand pit, the others following hesitantly. She stopped and examined the world the Child had created.
“That’s Gallifrey.” She answered.
“Wait, does that mean that little girl was you?” Roni asked in surprise. Sam nodded.
“Yes. I was offered a day of freedom in a dream, but I forget about it the next day. I only now, witnessing it, remembered it.” She admitted, examining the art work of her childhood.
“And the other girl?” Simon asked.
“As I said, she is my future regeneration. But a far one.” She said, examining the council tower.
“Would it be wrong if we preserve this to last forever?” Sam asked and chuckled were heard behind her.
“Of course not. This art work represents a lot. Your childhood, your home, your freedom ,your future.” Owen said and Sam smiled.
“What about it? Can you do that TARDIS?” She asked out openly, before another light emitted from the sand box before it disappeared, like dematerializing.
“Where’d it gone now?” Allen asked and Sam smiled. She stood up and ran to the door, exiting it. She ran down the corridor, the others following. She ran into the console room, where her smile brightened.
“When did this happen?” Roni asked, openly. The theme of the TARDIS had changed. This time the console room had no stairs upward to the corridor, no stairs to the TARDIS doors, it was one floor. The only stairs were spiral downwards to under the console. From the TARDIS doors it was in the right corner, the stairs. The console unit in the middle of the room was silver and was attached to the ground. There weren’t buttons on the console unit that stood out, they were all digital. The entire console unit was like one large touch screen. Above the console unit was one large cylinder, but it didn’t got up to the ceiling. It only stood about a meter up from the console unit. Half of the cylinder had a screen wrapped around it. Inside the cylinder was an orange light in the middle of it. The entire room was defiantly not as small as the previous two for this one looked more like an entire living room than just the control room. The door to the corridor was in the left corner, across from the spiral stairs down. About a meter away from the console unit, from the TARDIS doors behind it, were three coaches. Two three-seats, and one one-seat. The one-seat was facing toward the spiral stair, one three-seats were facing towards the console unit, and the last three-seats was facing toward the one-seat, the coach’s back towards the spiral stairs. The three-seats were black in colour and made from a leather material, while the one-seat was orange and had a softer material. In between these coaches was a glass coffee table. Right to the console unit, in front of the spiral stairs, was the sand Gallifrey in a glass case and was stuck to the console floor. The console floor were white tiles. From the TARDIS doors there were orange tiles, making a path to the console unit and formed a circle around the console unit. Around the circle were metal railings with two openings in the railings. One at the front where the path went, and one at the back which was shown to the coaches. Left from the console unit was a large bookcase, against the wall, which carried quite a few books. Right-down from the console unit, in front of the sand art, was a computer and large screen on a desk. That was also right from the orange tile path. Left from the tile path, left-down from the console unit and a little in front of the bookcase, was a large circular orange mat. On this mat were variable large pillows of black and white. Some were the same material as the three-seats couches, a leather like, while the others were fluffy and soft. The main colours were obviously orange, black and white, and the theme was more modern and homey. It was about three times as big as the previous desktop, and the best of all, nothing floated! Against the wall were the usually circles, but were in a checker pattern of black and white.
“My soul, look at it! Look at it!” Sam exclaimed, indicating to…well…everything!
“It’s like my mind just had a baby it’s so beautiful!” She exclaimed, the others giving her strange glances. She ran across the room, looking at it all, loving her new TARDIS. She ran to the console and started kissing it.
“I love you TARDIS!” She exclaimed and started skipping around the room in joy.
