“H-A-U-N-T-E-D!” Sam spelled out as she jumped around the console room, a flyer in her hand.
“Haunted?” Toby questioned when he entered the room, over hearing Sam’s spelling session.
“Yes! It’s a planet!” Sam yelled, cheerfully as she clapped in excitement.
“A planet?” Simon questioned, popping his head form the spiral stairs. He had been working on the TARDIS who went a little inactive with the Ice Age story a 5 weeks ago. They had just been laying around since then, getting themselves back in normal routine.
“Yes! It’s a planet ruled by active skeletons. They’re really peaceful.” Sam said with a smile and a nod.
“Well duh. They don’t have the guts to do anything.” Toby said with an eye roll. Sam chuckled.
“The skeletons are also very into classical music, the piano especially. There’s this big concert coming up featuring Violetta. I don’t know her but I heard about her on Gallifrey. Some kids were talking about her. The concert that’s coming up features her on the violin, and her fiancé, Frederick on the piano. I heard a lot about Violetta and I want to meet her. So whether or not you agree with me, we’re going to Haunted.” Sam said with a stern nod.
“I read that Haunted doesn’t really have predators so it should be fine.” Allen said once he entered the room, over hearing their conversation.
“That settles it! We’re going to Haunted!” Sam yelled in excitement. The rest entered the room once they heard Sam’s cheer.
“Where we going?” Roni asked immediately.
“Haunted! Let’s go!” She cheered and ran to the console, entering the coordinates. The others followed and helped pilot. Once they landed Sam ran to the doors and threw them open like she usually did, gothic Victorian houses entering her vision. The sky was dark and Sam saw all the skeletons on the streets, all wearing dark Victorian clothes. Sam smiled and stepped out, the others following. The TARDIS disguised itself as a gazebo which was closed off at the sides. Sam looked down at the flyer in her hands, but frowned. The words that were previous there had changed. B.A.S. was written large over the paper in bright orange. Sam blinked and the words changed again.
Come and listen to the pride and joy of Haunted! Violetta and Frederick playing at the Rosemary Sphere! Day show is 1PM to 2PM. Nigh show is 7PM to 8PM. Tickets are available at the door.
Sam walked over to a skeleton passing by and stopped him in his tracks.
“Excuse me, but I just wondered if you had the time on you.” He nodded and pulled out a pocket watch.
“It’s 6PM now.” He said and Sam nodded, thanking him and going back to her companions.
“We’ve got an hour before the show starts.” She said and they nodded.
“What will we doing now?” Owen asked.
“Well I want to meet Violette, so let’s go find the Rosemary Sphere.” She said and they nodded. They started to walk down the dark street. It wasn’t long before Simon just stopped.
“Could it be that?” Simon asked, pointing in a direction. It was a large sphere that looked like a planetarium, rosemary plants growing on the side of it.
“Wow. How’d we miss that?” Sam asked herself as they started to walk in that direction. There weren’t many people at the front, seeing as it’s still an hour and their probably making sure everything’s ready. The front doors were closed, but not locked. Sam opened the door and entered inside, the red carpets meeting her eye immediately. The others followed after her. Sam stopped when she saw a skeleton girl putting up some extra roses at the doors.
“Excuse me.” Sam announced and the girl looked up, surprised.
“Yes?” She asked in a sweet voice.
“I’m looking for VIoletta.” Sam announced.
“Why?” The skeleton girl asked.
“I’ve heard much about her on my home world, quite a few years back. Back when she just stated with her violin. I just wanted to say hello and meet this idol my home world talked about.” Sam said and the girl lifted her head to her, standing up straight, her plain red dress hanging off from her bones.
“Home world? How long ago?” She questioned.
“Gallifrey. About 800 years ago.” Sam said with a smile. The girl gasped.
“Gallifrey? Isn’t that where the Time Lords lived?” She asked and Sam nodded.
“Yeah. It’s dead now.” Sam said, sadly.
“And your from Gallifrey?” Sam nodded.
“Time Lord 100%.” Sam said raised her eyebrows. The girl just stared at Sam for a while.
“I’m Violetta.” She introduced herself.
“And I’m Sam. Nice to finally meet you Violetta. This here is Owen, Roni, Simon, Allen, Vincent, and Toby.” Sam introduced herself and her companions.
“Will you be coming to the concert?” She asked and Sam nodded.
“Yeah.” She said.
“Will you allow me to give you a dress?” She asked and Sam smiled.
“Of course. It would be my honour.” Sam said and Violette smiled, her boned cracking.
“Follow me.” She said and walked through the large doors that went to the seats and the stage. Sam and the others followed Violetta down and up the stairs of the stage, before going backstage. She led them to a large dressing room. Violetta went to a chest and opened it, pulling a dress out. It was a long purple and black dress with frills and a collar attached. She also pulled two old fashioned black heels out.
“Wow.” Sam gasped as she was handed the dress.
“Why are you giving it to me?” Sam questioned.
“I like to make other people beautiful, in return for all the concerts I’ve done and people making me beautiful. It’s way too big for me anyway, well, it’s way too big for any skeleton. I got it on a holiday on Alpha-X6.” She said and Sam smiled. Violetta then pointed to a door.
“You can dress in there.” She announced and Sam nodding, going to the door.
“Now then, for you boys…” Was the last Sam heard before entering. After Sam got dressed and excited the room, she was stunned by the sight. All of her companions were wearing Victorian suites. Black trousers with the black pointy shoes. A white button up sleeve with an under jacket over it. A trench coat and a top hat, and a tie. The ties’ colour differed. Roni, Toby and Owen had walking sticks. Sam tried not to laugh, especially with Vincent who kept tugging on his tie like it was choking him. She failed and started to burst out from the laughter. Violetta smiled at the scene.
“Can I do your hair?” She asked and Sam nodded, going to sit at a chair. Violetta started to play with her hair.
“Sam? Right?” Violetta asked and Sam nodded.
“How old are you Sam? If you heard about me…800 years ago, how old must you be then?” Violetta started conversation.
“At the moment I’m 951.” She replied.
“Wow. I’m only 137.” Violette replied.
“Really? Wow. What is the life span of skeletons?” Sam asked.
“500 years before we begin to crumble.” She responded.
“How old is Frederick?” Sam asked. She hesitated.
“130.” She responded.
“Wow, he’s younger.” Violetta nodded.
“Where is he now?” Sam questioned.
“He went out to get some more roses for the entrance.” She said and Sam nodded.
“And you? You have a lover?” Violetta asked and Sam shook her head.
“Never even thought about it. I’m completely happy with those 6.” Sam said, indicating to her companions who were examining the room and all the décor.
“Well did you have someone before?” Violetta questioned. Sam hesitated, her companions giving her knowing glares.
“He’s dead.” Sam admitted.
“Oh bone cakes, I’m so sorry!” She said, regretful.
“No it’s fine. We had an extremely complicated relationship” Sam said, rather sadly.
“How so?” She questioned.
“He took over the world.” Sam said and Violetta chuckled.
“I’m actually serious.” Violetta stiffened before going back to curling Sam’s hair.
“Is this him?” Owen asked and Violetta turned her head to see him pointing at a portrait of her believed. She nodded her head.
“Yeah that’s him.” The portrait was of the skeleton wearing formal Victorian clothes, even more formal than what the boys were wearing, and he was sitting on a red chair.
“He looks royal.” Toby commented.
“He is. He’s the prince in fact.” Sam’s eyes went wide.
“You’re getting married to a prince?” She nodded.
“Oh that’s precious.” Sam complemented.
“You guys just arrived here, haven’t you?” Violetta questioned and Sam nodded.
“Well then, after the concert I would like to show you the bat caves.” She said and Sam frowned.
“The bat caves?”
“Yeah. The bat caves are where all the bats live, obviously, but it’s not just that. These bats are very different than Earth bats and their very bigger. Some of the bats once discovered art, so the entire inside of the cave is full of paintings.” Violetta said.
“Bats than can paint. Now that is something I have to see.” Toby said in excitement.
“But that’s not all, the paint is glow in the dark, that’s why it’s better to go at night.” Violetta said, amusement in her voice.
“Bats who can paint. Still don’t believe it.” Roni said with a shake of his head.
“You’ll see soon enough.” She said and finished Sam’s hair by placing a black flower into the bun.
“There you go.” She said and Sam inspected her hair.
“This is great! Thanks Violetta!” Sam thanked.
“Now you guys better be going to the front and I better be getting ready. I’ll meet you outside the front doors after the concert.” She said and Sam nodded.
“Alright then. Meet you there.” Sam said and exited the room, followed by her companions. They went over the stage and up to the main doors and exited where people started entering. They waited for a little while before they started selling tickets and Allen went to buy 7. He came back.
“The seats are for the back, we’ll be able to see the most from there. And there’s almost nothing closer.” He said and Sam nodded.
“It’s fine. We can go in now right?” He nodded.
“Let’s go then.” Sam said and they just entered again, going to their seats at the back.
“I wonder how Violetta and Frederick will sound, playing together.” Sam said in though.
“They will play a beautiful melody.” Simon said and Sam nodded.
“Yeah. I always liked the violin, but I’ve never heard it with a piano before.” Sam admitted.
“There weren’t a lot of music where we lived.” Allen spoke for all the Silence.
“Yeah…” Sam trailed off when the lights dimmed and the show started. An announcer spoke, introducing Violetta and Frederick. The red curtains opened to show Violetta standing in one spot light, wearing a dazzling blue flat gown with frills on the side. Her violin was in her hand. Another spot light was on Frederick, wearing a dark purple outfit this time. He was sitting at the piano. Violetta raised her violin and simultaneously, they started playing the beautiful, enchanting melody. Everyone got lost in the melody, hypnotized by the playing their bony fingers played. They played various melodies the entire hour, their fingers never getting tired for what is there to get tired? They had no muscles. After the show, Sam and her companions waited outside as everyone was gone by now. The doors suddenly opened to reveal Violetta and Frederick’s arm.
“That was amazing you two.” Sam complemented.
“Thank you.” Violetta said, rather shyly.
“You must be Sam.” Frederick said and she nodded, before introducing her companions to him.
“Ah I see. We’re going to the bat caves now, yes?” He asked and they nodded.
“Follow me.” Violette said and they began following her up a small hill behind the Rosemary Sphere. At the top was the cave, the glow in the dark could be seen from outside.
“The bats should be outside by now, or deep inside the cave where no paintings are yet.” Frederick said and Sam nodded, entering the cave. She was immediately stunned by the sight. There were floral patterns, animals, skeletons, bats, abstract. All of it was in the glow in the dark paint, painted at random.
“Wow…” Toby said once they all entered. They started to slowly walk inside, memorizing all of the paintings.
“It’s been 49 years since they started, next year is the bat festival to celebrate their anniversary of finding.” Violetta explained.
“It’s beautiful.” Sam said in amazement. Roni suddenly stopped.
“What is it?” Sam asked.
“I heard something.” He said and the others stopped as well.
“Like what?” Owen asked him.
“Like someone sneezing, but tiny.” Roni said with a frown.
“A tiny sneeze?” Allen questioned and he nodded.
“Yeah.” He said and Sam tilted her head.
“Uhh…” Something suddenly fell on top if her, causing her to scream and jump away, jumping right into Owen and fall to the ground with him. Because it was dark, only lit by the glow in the dark paintings, which wasn’t helping much, Frederick and Violetta tripped over the two and landed on the ground, chaos breaking out with screams of surprise. Sam sat up from Owen and looked to where she once stood. There, on the ground in a small bundle, was a normal sized bat.
“My word, you scared us to death.” She said as she neared the bat.
“Don’t. Could be dangerous. There’s different kind of bats here.” Frederick said as she spotted the bat. The bat had its black wings around his body and face, making it hard to differ it from others. Sam took a hesitant step forward, staying crunched down. She poked it.
“Hey. You okay?” She questioned the bat. He slowly lifted his wings down and turned to Sam. It’s eyes were large and brown, the pupil was large. A small cute black nose. His eyes were small but pointy. It’s head and body was black, but his neck was a chocolate colour. It’s entire body was wet, but not from water. Something sticky, like old fruit juice. It’s large eyes held sadness in them, and desperation.
“Ohh you poor thing.” Sam said as the picked him up, cradling the poor bat in her arms.
“What is it?” Sam questioned as she turned to Fredrick. He hesitated, speechless.
“Don’t know. Never seen it before.” He admitted.
“But from the looks of it, that thing’s still a child.” He said and her eyes went wide.
“A child?! And it’s already this big?!” She asked, sceptical as she stared down at it, rubbing her hand over its body.
“Yeah…” Frederick was hesitant. Sam held it so that she saw its face.
“Hey little guy. It looks like you were attacked by some fruit. You have a family?” She asked him and he blinked his eyes at her, tilting his head.
“Guess not then.” She said and stood up straight, holding the bat as if it was a baby against her shoulder.
“Poor thing.” She said and looked down the cave.
“I’m not going any further.” She said with a shake of her head. She turned around and walked in the direction out, the bat laying gently on her shoulder. Her companions following, Frederick and Violetta hesitating before following.
“Are you going to keep the bat?” Violetta asked Sam.
“Planning on it.” She admitted.
“But it looks injured.”
“Exactly why I’m taking it. Skeletons are all friendly and can’t really hurt someone, so it wasn’t a skeleton who hurt him. He’s also covered in fruit from head to two, so he couldn’t have just ate. Most bats eat fruit, and that’s what led me to believe that he was heard by other bats, also proven by him wondering off. He’s coming with me.” Sam said, sternly.
“As a pet?” Frederick questioned.
“As a friend.” Sam said and they continued walking for some distance. Sam suddenly turned to them, having arrived in front of the TARDIS.
“Well then, this is where we say good bye. Great show, Violetta. Frederick. I’ll maybe see you one day.” She said and opened the TARDIS doors, entering. The others followed her inside and closed the door. They piloted off of the planet and into space. Sam then went to the coach and sat down, the bat still in her arms. The bat made a squeaking voice as Sam placed him in her lap.
“Sh, it’s okay. I’m going to help you.” She said and looked at the cute face of the bat. She smiled and rubbed behind the bat’s ears. He enjoyed the feeling and relaxed.
“We really going to keep him?” Owen questioned and Sam nodded.
“Yeah. It’s not the same of as a mammoth, so why not.” Sam then stopped, hesitating and thinking.
“Pickle. That’ll be his name.” She said and smiled, rubbing his head.
“Come on, let’s go clean you up, Pickle.” She said happily.
