52 | ANNOYING APPLE
3RD PERSONS VIEW
"Okay, so, for our last week's activity...we're going to be having a fashion evaluation!!" Johnny exclaimed happily, the girls were cheering however the boys were a bit confused about what was happening. Yuta elbowed Johnny and the taller male cleared his throat. He stopped cheering with the girls and focused back on the whiteboard. "We'll explain it a little bit."
"So since this is our last week in summer camp, we decided to join forces and create a big event! Usually, it's just us boys but this year we decided to spice it up a little bit and have the girls come over!"
"Basically," one of the counselors from the girls camp, Ms. Minatozaki Sana, started talking, and literally all eyes went on her. Everyone was awestruck at how gorgeous she looked. "we'll be dividing everyone by their cabins! Some will help out plan the event, some will decorate, some will also help out design the clothes, and the models are going to be picked out!"
Most of the boys groaned at the thought of modeling but nodded anyway. The other counselor, Ms. Hirai Momo, walked towards the rest of the counselors with a ballot box in her grasp. Yuta began talking, "As you can see, we have a ballot box here and everyone has their name written on a folded piece of paper. We will be drawing at least twenty models! Ten from the girls' camp and ten from the boys' camp!"
Everyone stood waiting for the names to be called out. Some prayed that they weren't going to be called —mostly the boys— while almost half of the girls were begging to be called. They must have been waiting for this moment to happen, that is because a lot of them were really into styling and dressing up, basically, this was the perfect opportunity to showcase their skills.
The name-calling began with the girls. Minjun stood beside Mark and Lucas as they gave little reactions when someone's name gets called and they head up the little stage to stand beside the counselors.
"Chae Yuri." Minjun looked up and smiled, clapping her hands lightly when Haeyoung's friend got called out. By the looks of Yuri's face, it seemed like she didn't really want to join but had to nonetheless.
"Kwon Seoyeon." The blue-haired girl tensed a little bit when the familiar name rang in her ears. She recalled the moments when she told Seoyeon that she could join model agencies at how pretty and confident she always was and for how well she dressed up. Minjun avoided looking at the stage and instead turned to one of her friends. She spots Jaemin who had a poker face on, clearly unamused with what's happening, at least before Ms. Hirai called out names from the boys' camp.
"Han Minjun."
The said person freezes in her spot and it was as if heavy chains were preventing her from leaving. She caught a few glances here and there as well as a few whispers from either the boys camp or the girls camp. Minjun swallowed the thick lump that formed at the back of her throat, sucking in some air in hopes to relieve the anxious feeling that clawed her guts.
"Minjun..." Lucas whispered, "Go on. You'll be fine, just look at us, okay?" he said softly and gently pushed the girl towards the mini platform.
Minjun nodded, muttering a few incoherent words under her breath, and headed up the stage, earning a few looks from the girls' camp. They all knew the blue-haired camper as the guy who carried their red-head fellow camper back to her dorm. A few rumors here and there going on and they all know how smitten the red-head was for the blue one.
As she stood beside the blonde, she could feel the stern gaze on her that did not dare to look away. It was as if she was being inspected and cornered; she did not like it. Sighing deeply, she spared a glance over at the blonde-haired girl beside her. "Got a problem, blondie?"
Seoyeon flinched when the blue-haired fellow spoke and felt something familiar when she heard Minjun's voice. Taking this a sign to starting speaking, she said in a low voice. "So your full name is Han Minjun?"
"Yeah. What's wrong with that?" Minjun murmured, ignoring the voice inside of her head that screamed loudly for her to avoid the blonde, but she still talked nonetheless.
"Nothing." Seoyeon fake coughed. "Just- I know someone with the same name and as I said before...you kinda look like them."
"Sorry to disappoint, blondie. I'm pretty sure I'm not the one you thought I was. As you said, I'm a guy."
"I know." Seoyeon gritted her teeth and glanced down at Minjun's hands, admiring the rings that adorned her slender fingers. Riling up all the courage she has, she reached out to gently touch it causing Minjun to recoil with her eyes wide. Seoyeon bit her lip, "S-Sorry... I just- your rings..."
Minjun froze momentarily and quickly hid her hands inside her pocket. "What about them?"
"Nothing. They looked...pretty." And one looked familiar. Seoyeon peered down at her own hands, eyeing the silver ring that circled around her right ring finger. Shaking her head, she breathed out a simple, "Sorry." but frowned when she got no response, instead, Minjun kept her gaze onto her friends.
"We're down to the last five models!"
"We have... let's see." Ms. Hirai hummed and opened the folded paper. "Jeon Dowon!"
A boy with an ugly bruise on his jaw trudged his way up the platform and grumbled a few words. The counselors grimaced at how annoyed he looked and Ms. Hirai awkwardly laughed. "That's one lovely decoration on your face."
"Shut up, old hag," Dowon muttered, earning a few gasps and boos from the audience.
Ms. Hirai waves it off casually and began calling names again. "Wong Yukhei."
"Park Jisung."
"Wong Kunhang."
"And lastly, Lee Donghyuck!"
Minjun chuckled when Donghyuck literally strutted his way into the platform and began striking some poses earning a lot of laughs and whistles from others. Once the counselors have divided them into their respective teams and duties, they all were allowed to do anything they wanted.
As Minjun spun around to head to her friends, she was stopped by Seoyeon who held onto her arm. The blue-haired girl frowned, not wanting to look back, she snarled. "What do you want?"
"No need to be aggressive, Minjun-ssi. I just want to talk."
"And why is that?" Minjun questioned.
Seoyeon's grip on the latter's arm loosened and she scratched her head, "Well... you seem like a really nice guy and I wondered if we could be friends."
It was all coming back to her like Deja Vu.
It was lunchtime and Minjun ran her fingers through her hair as a bunch of students crowded around her desk, restricting her from leaving the classroom. Everyone was eager to become friends with the new kid and Minjun was almost as excited to earn new friends.
And that was when a certain girl made her way through the crowd, parting it as if they avoided some sort of virus. The girl rested her palm gently on top of Minjun's desk, enthralling the girl with her own congenial aura. "Now, now, let's not scare her off, guys." She chuckled and looked down at Minjun who seemed captured like a fish on a hook, hopelessly entranced in some sort of love potion.
"Hi, my name is Kwon Seoyeon!"
"Han Minjun." She nods back with a smile.
The students around them began leaving, though their conversation with each other seemed interesting, they had their own lunch to catch.
"Uhh... do you... want something?" Minjun furrowed her brows together, unsure as to why the girl came prancing towards her seat.
"Hahaha, no need to be awkward, you cutie." With just one sentence, a blush crept up Minjun's face. "I just want to talk."
"Really?" Minjun chuckled, cocking a brow up before resting her chin on the palm of her hand. "Why is that?"
"Well... you seem like a really nice girl and I wondered if we could be friends."
"Of course! I'd love to!"
"No. And not to be rude, but I'm kinda busy. Sorry." Minjun took a while to respond but eventually came up with something. She glances a few meters away from the platform, seeing Jaemin and Donghyuck waiting for her, a glare sent towards the blonde.
Seoyeon's gaze trailed towards the two boys and chuckled. "My, I guess your friends are waiting for you?"
Minjun nodded, "Yeah, so will you please?" She glances down and gestured to Seoyeon's hand that still gripped her arm.
Seoyeon caught on and immediately pulled away, tucking a stray strand of her hair behind her ear. "Can we still have that talk, when you're not busy, of course?"
Minjun scrunched her nose, a bit annoyed that Seoyeon was so persistent just to get what she wanted. The blue-haired girl ran her fingers through her hair and replied, "I'll think about it."
"Even so," Seoyeon added, "I believe we're in the same department, with the modeling and stuff. I guess we'll be seeing each other more often then!" She said before nodding. "I'll see you later, Minjun-ssi."
Once again, Minjun didn't dare reply and quickly headed to where Jaemin and Donghyuck were waiting. When she got there, she released a sharp sigh to which they rolled their eyes at. Donghyuck snaked an arm around her shoulder, "What the hell was that!? Donghyuck's rule number two!! Don't talk to your ex-girlfriend!"
Minjun scoffed, "As if it's that easy! She'll suspect me if I avoid her!"
Jaemin sighed, "Minjun has a point."
"Also, what's with that annoying apple?"
"Annoying- what now?"
Donghyuck rolled his eyes once more and nodded towards the outdoor cafe where the rest of their friends occupied a table. "We've been calling that Haeyoung girl an annoying apple."
"Because?"
"Because! She's so smitten with you and like- she's so- she's just annoying!"
"C'mon, don't be like that. She's just a little girl."
"Minshit, she's like a year younger than you, if I'm not mistaken," Jaemin stated with his arms crossed, walking beside the two.
"Actually, she's two years younger."
"Still."
"I know but like, I can't just get rid of her. She literally drags me around saying I'm her savior or some shit." Minjun uttered and slumped her shoulders forward, remembering the kinds of compliments Haeyoung kept throwing at her that she just couldn't keep up anymore.
Jaemin scoffed, "If you don't get rid of her and she starts to become really annoying then I'll get rid of her myself."
"I agree with you." Donghyuck raised his hand to give Jaemin a high five.
Minjun shook his head and glanced back to see Seoyeon talking to some of her fellow campers. She sighed and focused back on the front. "You do you, guys. You do you."
Meanwhile, at the outdoor cafe, the rest of the boys were having their own conversation and it was centered mainly on Hendery. The boy had been staring at his cup for quite some time that the others had gotten pretty concerned.
"Yo, are you sure you're okay?"
"What did that brat even say?" Xiaojun questioned and poured some juice for Chenle.
Hendery looked up at them with frustrated eyes and said, "She called me Minnie's best friend and even told me that she liked Minnie! She told me not to tell Minnie and also asked for my fucking help!"
Mark nearly spat his drink out, wiping the corner of his lip with the back of his palm after swallowing. "FOR REAL?!"
Hendery buried his face into his palms. "For real!"
"But- didn't you kiss Minjun already?" Jeno whispered so that no one else could hear but the people occupying their table. Lucas and Renjun gasped out loud but they whispered, "HE DID?"
Mark sent a glare towards Hendery but nodded, "He did."
"FUCK- WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME YOU WERE GONNA DO THAT? I'M SUPPOSED TO BE YOU TWO'S HYPE MAN! THAT WOULD'VE BEEN GOOD IN THE PHOTO ALBUM I'M PLANNING TO DO!!" Renjun complained, fake crying about how Hendery ruined a chance to get a perfect photo of their first kiss together.
Mark grumbled, "He didn't even ask first!"
"YOU GUYS WERE WATCHING!?" Yangyang screeched. "What a waste! I was saving up my popcorn if ever something like a kiss scene would happen, now I won't become an official third wheel." Xiaojun sighed, shaking his head in disappointment.
Hendery shot his head up defensively and waved his hand at Mark, "Wait! No- I never meant it to happen!"
"What do you mean?"
"The kiss! I- it wasn't supposed to happen!"
"You don't want to kiss Minjun?" Xiaojun raised a brow and Hendery groaned. "It's not that I don't want to- believe me," he looks at Mark, "if I wanted to, I would've asked and I would've done it once we're officially together."
"But that kiss last night... although I don't deny that I kind of liked it, it really wasn't supposed to happen. She pulled onto my collar because I teased her and I unintentionally got too close and- yeah... that happened."
"Wow..." Lucas clapped, "What a fake story."
"It's not fake!" Hendery whined and rested his head on his arms. "The kiss doesn't count! Not unless I ask for her permission."
"As you should," Mark said and patted his shoulder.
"But what am I going to do with the apple?" Hendery muttered, looking totally helpless in his situation.
Yangyang snorted, "Just tell her Minjun's yours."
"No that's a bit rude and I look possessive which is I am certainly not. Minjun can be close with whoever she wants as long as they don't cross boundaries."
"Ahh, where the heck is Minjun? I want to tease her about how much of a boyfriend material person you are." Xiaojun hummed and dipped his bread into some Lao Gan Ma.
Renjun snapped his fingers, "Ah! Maybe tell her that you like Minjun too, I don't see the problem with that."
"Won't that break Haeyoung's heart?" Jeno asked warily.
"So? She should know that Guanheng-ge isn't just Minjun's best friend. They have something going on between them and it'd be a waste if something happens." Chenle said with Jisung shortly agreeing after.
"Well, Hendery?" Lucas turns to the said boy who contemplated about it.
"I'll think about it..."
