43 | I HATE YOU
3RD PERSONS VIEW
Minjun cursed under her breath, forehead creasing as she hugged the towel closer to her body. It didn't help at all when the harsh wind blew against her damp body. Gritting her teeth, she seethed. "Where the fuck is that boy?"
Walking down the trail back to the campsite when Jaemin was nowhere to be found around the lake, she rethought about her actions earlier. Well, it was the right thing to do.
Shaking her head, she halted in the middle of the path, hearing faint voices as if the person was arguing with himself. Though muffled and forced, Minjun could hear the malaise in his tone. Minjun walked off the path, following the footstep marks on the dirt.
She sneaked behind a tree, peering through it to see the faded blue-haired boy sitting on a log, talking to himself. His hair was disheveled obviously from his constant urge to tousle it whenever he got annoyed, and no doubt this boy was more than annoyed.
Taking a deep breath, she contemplated whether to confront him or not. She didn't want to assume that he was mad because of her—why would he be? But why is he so annoyed right now either? Minjun was about to retreat, deciding not to push the boy any further when the aforementioned boy spoke.
"I know you're there."
She froze, her brown orbs wide in shock. Minjun slowly glanced to her side seeing him taking slow strides towards her, his head down and hands both inside of his sweatpants pocket.
Chuckling awkwardly, Minjun tried to ease the tense atmosphere. "Jaeshit! Haha... how'd you know I was here..." She mumbled, still confused.
"Gut feeling? I don't know. Does it matter?" He said monotonously and the girl slumped her shoulders.
Lightly punching his upper arm, she forced up a smile. "Why are you so grumpy again? No need to be moody you blueberry."
Jaemin stared at her like crazy, his eyes holding such emotion that she couldn't even process at that moment, but it was something. Minjun gulped, not knowing why she was feeling weird, was she afraid of him? Was she expecting something? She was utterly confused and she hated it.
Minjun sighed, "Look, I don't get why—" she got cut off when Jaemin started taking steps towards her causing her to back up, all nervous in a split second. "Woah- wait. You're getting too close—" her back hits the tree and her breathing hitched when Jaemin's face was suddenly inches away from hers.
Too close. But not gonna lie, he kinda looks—nope. Not gonna say it. I do not think of Jaemin like that!
Minjun pressed her palms against his chest, preventing him from going any further. She could feel her whole body heating up and grow all uneasy. "Yah, w-what's wrong? You don't need to get so close just to talk to me—"
Jaemin suddenly pulls her into a hug, not minding the fact that he's gonna get wet. He hesitated for a few seconds before saying, "And if you're the one without the life vest and fell into the lake?" He whispered. "You idiot."
"Jaemin... I can swim you know." She mumbled.
"And if you weren't able to get away from that huge kayak fast enough? What if you lost your breath? What if you drowned? What if Dickjun's kayak hit you? Not your kayak, but you? You could've gotten hurt!" He rambled on, listing seemingly endless possibilities just from what happened earlier. He took a deep breath, letting go of her, and held her by her shoulders. "What if, Minjun? What if?"
Minjun was lost for words. Jaemin never seemed to care that much about other people, he always kept to himself and he always showed that side of him, but deep down he also worried about the what if's. During his time at the camp, he never expected to grow close to anyone nor make any friends at all, though that was the main reason why he got sent to summer camp in the first place.
But here he was. Worrying about a bunch of dorks, worrying about a certain girl that he just couldn't get off his mind. He met friends, he learned to come out of his own world.
Minjun pressed her lips together as her mind went completely blank. The words were at the tip of her tongue but she couldn't bring herself to speak up.
Jaemin's eyes scanned over her facial features, admiring her face clearly and Minjun noticed that. She looks away, a bit self-conscious over her looks. After a moment of silence, she finally spoke, "But I didn't. Those didn't happen. Why are you even worried in the first place? I thought you didn't—"
"Exactly!" He cuts her off mid-sentence. "I don't get why I'm so fucking worried! I get- I get so irritated when I see you having fun with others and I'm here just as someone who bickers with you a lot. I am jealous because I can't do what they can- I'm not a social person, I don't like crowds- I don't like big events... I usually just want to be alone."
"But then you. Alone with you felt really peaceful, though we do bicker still, I find comfort." Jaemin sighed and let go of her shoulders, taking a few steps back and buried his face into the palms of his hands. "I'm not good with feelings. I often joke about it and..." he shook his head.
"I care about you, okay?"
Minjun gaped at the boy in front of her, unsure what to feel nor what to say as a response. She'd open her mouth, expecting at least a single word to come out but none. She was speechless.
Jaemin bit his bottom lip, "At least speak... I don't want things to get awkward..."
"I- I'm sorry, just, I don't know what to say."
"You don't have to say anything, I just wanted you to know what I'm feeling."
"What you're feeling?" Minjun blinked a couple of times, making sure if she heard it right.
Jaemin nodded, "I still don't know what it is or if it's... well... real? Ugh, fucking feelings. I want to... I want to figure it out too."
"Jaemin."
The boy looked up from his hands and Minjun could no longer see the cold, introverted boy she met during the first day of camp. He looked concerned, soft, and somehow vulnerable.
"What?"
"I care about you too."
"Oh I know," he grinned, standing back up straight. "I mean you wouldn't be here if you didn't care to look for me, which was actually a part of my plan."
Minjun squinted her eyes at him, "Your plan?"
"I don't wanna prance up to you and like drag you just to say something, nor do I want to talk it out at the tents, Jisung-ie will say some stuff again." Jaemin scoffed and crossed his arms, a smirk to spread wide across his face. "Well?"
Minjun rolled her eyes, pushing herself off the tree, and walk towards Jaemin to push him. "Fuck off."
Jaemin shook his head childishly, "No."
Minjun eyed him weirdly before pressing the back of her hand onto his forehead, "Are you sure you're Jaemin? You're not sick, are you? Omg, don't tell me the real Jaemin got eaten by the eagles? Holy shit did Jisung end up sacrificing Jaemin instead and a doppelgänger—"
"Ow!" She yelps as the boy flicked her forehead, shaking his head.
"You're such an idiot."
"Wow, but you like this idiot." Her sentence caught him off guard.
With his mouth slightly agape and eyes wide, his ears began to turn a deep shade of red as heat rushed to his face quickly. He wanted to deny it but couldn't piece the right words to do so. It was Minjun's time to smirk, an eyebrow cocked up. "Oh? I don't head you denying it?" She teased, bringing her face close to his making him hold her by her shoulders again, preventing her from nearing him.
"Sh-Shut up! I never- I never—"
"What was that, Jaeshit?" Minjun hummed with a smug smirk.
Jaemin gritted his teeth, averting his gaze away promptly. "I hate you, Minshit."
"I hate you too, Jaeshit."
