Black and white (7)

Andrew was confused.

Everything was black; it didn't matter how many times he looked around, he only saw black. However, he was fully aware of the heavy scent in the air – a strange mixture of medicine and detergent. His hearing was still acute, so while he was standing in the endless darkness, he was listening to the quiet beeping in the distance; it sounding too far away for his liking.

He didn't understand what was going on. He tried opening his eyes but his eyelids felt too heavy to move. His body was sleeping peacefully. He couldn't say the same for his mind – it was bombarding him with memories of what had occurred.

He did faintly remember the car lights and the chantings of unknown to him person. He wished he had died that day. Alas, he felt very much alive but equally as tired.

Andrew struggled against the invisible barrier that wasn't letting him wake him up. He was never the most mentally strong person ever, though he wasn't the weakest either. He felt the strained muscles in his legs due to torturous hours of walking.

He managed to move his arm just a bit; it was like trying to lift a big rock with a single finger. He didn't give up, no. He put as much effort as he was physically able to, wanting to finally open his eyes and see where he was.

Maybe he was still on that field, maybe he was at home and all of this had been one of his horrible nightmares. He was holding onto the sliver of hope that his brother was sitting next to him somewhere in their room; that he was still alive and kicking.

He didn't let himself think about it too much. He shouldn't have got his hopes up for longer that he already had. He knew very well what went down approximately one year ago, not that he would admit it out loud. Speaking about it would definitely make it one hundred times more real. He didn't want that.

Finally, his eyelids fluttered open. His sight was all blurry, blending the  colours because of his dizziness.

When it cleared out, Andrew found himself on a bed, a hospital bed to be precise.

Contrary to his previous expectations, the room was anything but white as the movies made him believe. The walls were a dull beige brown colour. The floor was a weird shade of gray, not quite as brilliant as the sky outside.

What he did get right was the awfully uncomfortable bed he was on. It brought him even more pain to his aching muscles.

All Andrew wanted to do was to get out of there. It wasn't the place he had hoped of to wake up at. He didn't like it, not one bit.

As he was going to attempt to sit up, the door flew open and a concerned looking woman entered the room.
