To Speak of Change
Blue was meditating when he sensed it. He saw it's intense aura, like a warping of the world as it approached, it's core bright and solid in the realm of energy. He retreated into himself, stiff as he looked up. Unity was ecstatic inside him, swirling gleefully.
It was a greyish blue beneath the sharp, angular scales like so many crystals embedded into skin. It's back was a thick, luscious mat of white fur, glowing aquamarine tendrils rising up and waving about, whitish pearls attached to them. It's face resembled a dragon, eyes blue-white and pupilless. White, feathery wings hung close to it's sides, tinged with bright blue, aquamarine and silver. The creature was magnificent, but he was not afraid. He knew who it was.
"Abyss." Blue greeted.
The being inclined it's head to him, voice weighing on his thoughts.

"I get the feeling that your connection is deeper than that." Blue admitted.
The being stared at him without expression. Simply an open, vague gaze. Perhaps they were lost in thought.
Then they turned to the side.
𝚆𝚊𝚕𝚔 𝚠𝚒𝚝𝚑 𝚞𝚜. Abyss spoke, striding away.
Blue huffed and stood, jogging to catch up with the dragonish creature. Heavy footfalls padded along the ground sedately, leading him through the gnarled trees.
"Where are we going?" He softly asked.

He pondered the words for a moment before they abruptly set in.
Blue stopped walking. The other stopped a few paces ahead of him, looking back with knowing eyes.

Sԋҽ ʂԋσυʅԃɳ'ƚ ԋαʋҽ ƚσ Ⴆҽ!
He grimaced as he bit back the urge to find and be there for his friend, knowing that it wasn't his own. "What are we going to do, Abyss Soul?" The named rolled off his tongue surprisingly easily.
"We need her. She won't be able to leave if she really does have eggs. How is it even possible? She doesn't have a Soul like we do."
The crystalline reptile leaned down to peer at him with one large eye.

Everything else fell from his mind as he stared at the egg in his arms, thoughts racing.
Hadn't Abyss said eventually? That couldn't have meant now? Or.. was he not sure when?
What better time than now? Give the dragonchild the freedom they deserved. Real freedom, not just a false body.
Before he realized it, he was sitting in the grass again, egg resting in his lap as he stared at it.
Aɾҽ ყσυ ʂυɾҽ ყσυ ɯαɳƚ ƚσ ԃσ ƚԋιʂ? Unity asked nervously. Tԋιʂ ιʂ ɾαƚԋҽɾ ɳҽɯ αɳԃ αʅʅ..
I want to find myself. What better way to do that then to reflect through the eyes of a child? A dragon?
I'ɱ ɳσƚ ҽɳƚιɾҽʅყ ϝσʅʅσɯιɳɠ Ⴆυƚ.. I ƚɾυʂƚ ყσυ, ϝɾιҽɳԃ. Bҽ ƈαɾҽϝυʅ, I ʂυρρσʂҽ?
It's you who needs to be careful, Unity. Try not to get in trouble. He half-teased as his tinted Soul appeared, gleaming as it hovered over the shell. Distantly, he could sense Abyss/Soul watching carefully, unmoving and silent as stone.
With a gentle push, he pressed the white heart through the shell, twitching violently as his awareness abruptly drained away. Luckily he didn't fall, feeling distantly the deity took control of his faculties and sat still. He continued to fade until his own body was but a distant sensation from far away, the rest of him settled in warm darkness.
For a moment, he contemplated his existence, then another mind bubbled to wakefulness within his own, wriggling and familiar with the strange proportions he was experiencing. It was wired, cramped and excited. He would have smiled at the childish joy if he could, but he was just a mute observer.
It wiggled again, bashing a snout against the walls around. It hurt, but it was strong, stronger than any natural hatchling. It took around a minute before it forced it's way out, face breaking through into cold brightness, recoiling. It sat there in a daze for a moment, shifting in place before deciding to move.
The dragonchild writhed, cracking the shell further as it slipped out of the egg.
Blue realized with some amusement that this strange fleshy dragonet borne from a skeletal dragon was Draco's firstborn child.
What a strange thought to have, dwelling in a body he couldn't recognize.
He noted first that it was heavy and meager, stumbling to it's feet on bright blue talons.
"The gold stripe, I like it!" Unity's voice blared.
The hatchling flinched, looking back at Blue's own face, carrying too wide a smile with cerulean lights.
That hurt. Blue pointed out.
"Oh yes, my bad." The deity's voice emanated again, softer. "Very young, very sensitive. So small. Oh! We should tell the parents! They would enjoy this-"
Not now. It's not a good time. This would be difficult to explain. I don't think Draco is quite over what happened, finding out his child is alive and hatched would not help- especially knowing these unusual circumstances. He pointed out as the small one shakily looked around, shivering.
It looked up at the enormous dragon-like being watching a fair distance away, peeping once.
There was a soft hoot in reply.
"Do you want to know what they look like?" Unity asked excitedly, thankfully letting go of his previous idea.
I would like that. Blue admitted, the little one squinting at the egg and clamping their jaws weakly on it.
A moment later he could see once again from his own sockets, looking down at the hatchling. It hesitated, seeing the same as he did. They worked their jaw on the shell more slowly than before.
He rather thought that it looked like an infant Saphira, save for the thicker neck and broad horn nubs on the back of their skull, a gold stripe gleaming down their spine, lined with bony nubs like her spikes.
Blue found it beautiful. They deserved to see their little one. At that thought, the hatchling leapt up, stumbling amidst leaves before snorting and stumbling back to their feet, squeaking. It wanted to crawl, to be free, but this body was heavy and weak. It slumped over, wheezing.
Movement sounded and it jolted, lifting a head to see a gloved hand reaching down. On impulse, it snapped at the hand, only to flinch back at the slight sting of pain.
It's alright, it is only me. Blue assured it, hurt by its sad whine as it was lifted off the ground.
Well.. a deity borrowing my body. He absently corrected.
"It is a strange little thing!" Unity's words rolled around them.
"You are not in your own body and I am using it! Something like that has never happened before as far as I'm aware. You keep discovering strange new things, Blue!"
Yes yes, I am simply that great. He sighed internally as the hatchling went limp in disappointment.
Now be quiet, will you? I need to think and know myself! He finally decided, retreating into his thoughts.
After a moment, Soul Abyss shared a look with Unity, the newly hatched dragonet wriggling and yearning for the ground.
"Do you think he would mind if I took his body into a comfortable shape again?" The deity pondered.
ωιℓℓ уσυ кєєρ ιт ѕαƒє..? A voice echoed.
"Why of course! Why wouldn't I?" A possessed skull tilted to the side. The dragonish one blinked in a deadpan.

"What! I do not!" He cried even as a cerulean mist surrounded him.
Stepping forward, a rumble juddering out from within. 𝚆𝚎 𝚠𝚒𝚕𝚕 𝚋𝚎 𝚠𝚊𝚝𝚌𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚐.
"All of us." A new voice echoed faintly.
"Oh no little Shadow, you don't need to do that!" Unity gasped, reemerging from the cloud with a reptilian face as mandibles clicked around the snout.
"I like to." Limbo drifted closer, lights wobbling.
"I wouldn't want to bother you overmuch!"
"You don't, heart of Pepromeno."
At that, the insectoid figure hesitated.
"I.. I forgot you were Mystery's Voice. A little silly of me."
"No worries. I'm easy to forget."
"Why I don't believe that at all!"

Unity huffed at that, holding the dragonet in forelimbs. "Well I suppose I can't argue Memory. What shall we do with the strange little one? My Voice did not make his instructions the most clear.."
Limbo drifted closer, appearing on the sides of trees before peeling off into three dimensions, reaching a shadowy hand out to gently push the claws down until the hanging talons touched the earth and the dragonet was standing, blinking back with curious, yellow-gold eyes with a hint of blue. It chirped, Unity automatically chirping back.
"Let the little one wander. We all are watching and this is an island of magic, regardless of how twisted that magic may be at times."
Unity hummed thoughtfully, legs curling up to regard the hatchling as it sniffed the ground, snout clumsily tapping the earth.
"Well.. it is partly matter. Should we protect it from the radiation?"

"Well I suppose it's fine, then. I am not accustomed to such solid beings."
"None of us are."
"That is true…. I do wish he could let me help find himself."
"That is his own journey."
"If it takes too long I may have to help."

"You've found a name? That's wonderful!" He chirped happily.
The hum that followed shook the air as the giant, partly furred reptile stood as the tiny dragon looked up with large, glittering eyes.
ℓιмвσ ωιℓℓ ѕтαу. ωє мυѕт gσ.. 𝚋𝚞𝚝 𝚠𝚎 𝚠𝚒𝚕𝚕 𝚌𝚘𝚖𝚎 𝚋𝚊𝚌𝚔.
"Of course, Psychí. Stay safe!" The shadow called as the giant leapt up and over them, great feathered wings driving downward and flying away, the treetops tussled in the god's passing.
The hatchling squeaked, scrabbling over to the deep trenches carved into the earth, stumbling until they were peering inside with burning curiosity. Unity followed, intrigued.
"You know, they don't act minutes old. How strange."
"Technically, they're not minutes old. They have existed in Galanós's Soul for a while. You've felt them filling in the holes."
"I have." The deity admitted. "Still, I don't mess with Souls. That's my mortal!" He fidgeted anxiously. "You understand, yes?"
"I do."
Unity sighed fretfully, falling silent to watch the dragonet bumble around the furrows.
"Do you think you can find yourself, heart of Pepromeno?" Limbo asked, sitting down beside him.
"It's been a long, long time since anyone has brought up that old connection. I'd forgotten it existed." He admitted. "I still failed what I was created to do."
"Did you?"
"Well I couldn't exactly stop the conflict, could I?"
"Maybe you did. Indirectly, of course. It was Galanós you chose, and through Galanós that the violence eased. I don't think it could be where it is now without him. He wouldn't have known how to start without you."
"Are you sure it's not this world that's gotten them so peaceful now? Common goals."
"They would have killed Eragon if they were not what you helped them become."
Unity fell silent at that thought.
The human was a good friend now. He hadn't thought of the possibilities that could have happened.
Eventually Limbo spoke up again.
"You've been with him for quite a while." He noted.
"Well, the little Reset overuse makes it a little confusing sometimes."
"Have you ever considered becoming one?"
Unity flinched, curling up slightly. "Well I- perhaps a little. I rather like being friends. The idea of meeting him again in a new body in the future is nice.."
"You'll never know when that could be. You might never meet again. A fitting Soul just.. lost to the waters of eternity."
"Why do you speak of this, Shadow?" He faced the overblown eyelights, the orbs regarding him almost emptily. They turned away.
"Mystery has brought up the question to me. It's.. an intriguing topic for one such as I."
"...You are not a mortal." Unity pointed out knowingly. "You.. are a collection of fragments. If Mystery wants to merge with you, that would involve being somewhat a part of all the alternates. The effects of that would be.. they would be vast, that's for sure. Would it be unfair? They have such an aptitude for hosting our kind.."
"We think it won't influence them all that much. Besides.. we don't plan on doing anything until Galbatorix is dead and the Multiverse collapses. You would be of the same opinion, right?"
Unity stared out between the trees, surprisingly deep in thought.
"Well.. I have posed the question to him before. Neither of us have ever been sure. Maybe now it would be a possibility, but… I think I would like to see Destiny one last time before that."
"Even with how distant you've become?"
"It's not like what we are to each other has changed. I am still their Heart."
Limbo went silent at that.
They watched the dragonet crouch into one of the trenches, looking upside-down over it's shoulders to peer at them, tail flicking.
"I was able to reach back." Limbo murmured.
"Reach back?" Unity echoed, blinking at him.
"I accessed the Multiverse."
The deity sat up at that, eyes wide.
"I couldn't learn much, but I did share it. I met Eiríni, Exélixi and Exoterikós. He had become Eiríni's Voice. I could glimpse a few things from him.. Pepromeno has a Voice. Who it is will surprise you."
Unity lit up, excited. "Then who? Tell me, tell me!" He bounced in place.
Overblown eyelights flashed brighter.
"They chose the First."
Now he hesitated. "They did?"
"Yes. Others are finding vessels at a rapid rate- and Exélixi was dragged across to us last night when Psychí snapped into place. I believe she knows more.. but her vessel was made weak."
"I have felt Eve recently.. who woke her?"
"Psychí did, of course."
"I should have guessed, of course! But what happened to her vessel?"
"Nearly dead. She is with Life now, and both are working to heal the damage- but she has been left weak and scared."
"...She has been in that body for a very long time. I do not remember what it was before, actually."
"It was human. That wasn't obvious?"
"Well you know how often she changes things!"
"...That's fair." He conceded.
"Maybe I could go help them?" Unity offered next.
"You have to run it by Galanós first." Limbo warned.
"Oh I'm sure he won't mind!"
"It's his body."
At that, he pouted and looked away. Limbo leaned closer. "It's things like that. I think you should consider it."
"Well I don't know how things will turn out. On one hand, I could miss talking to my good friend, but on the other I could not be myself at all anymore. Wouldn't he miss me?"
"He would be you."
"Yes, yes, but we are friends as individuals! He would miss me, I know it."
"It's inevitable either way. You miss his company or he you. You're both so fond of each other as individuals."
"And you? Are you not friends with Mystery?"
Limbo chuckled. "Of course I am. We've been together for longer than even you two. It's just.. the lines blur sometimes."
"Of course they do, that's what happens."
He pointed out.
"We don't want to do it alone." He abruptly added.
Unity blinked, head tilted to the side.
"Mystery has always been alongside Madness, but neither have ever been close enough to any mortal to consider this before myself."
Tucking his chin to his chest, Unity clicked his mandibles thoughtfully. ".. You've always been together.." He mumbled, referring to Mystery and Madness. A new but tired voice finally appeared, speaking for itself.
"...We are a pair. I know Madness does not wish to combine with Entropy… he dislikes the former human too much."
Unity hummed at that, the dragonet clambering out of the ground while staring at him.
"I… it's a lot to ask of me. Of us. I prefer to talk about it with Blue available, it includes him as much as it does me."
"We know."
"We wished to know of your thoughts on the matter."
"Ah, I see. I cannot let myself have too many thoughts on it just yet. I'd risk making an internal decision without Blue's input! I don't want that. I want him to choose first."
"You want to follow what he decides."
He hesitated, looking to the side. A minute passed and the hatchling was bumping it's forehead on him affectionately. He tapped it's snout, watching it blink intelligently at him, though still confused.
"I don't care so much for myself anymore, you know? It's more of an altering decision for him. Whatever happens to me will happen. He's just my mortal."
Unity flinched as a ghostly hand rested on him.
He stared at Limbo as the shadow smiled sagely.
"We understand."
The deity smiled back.
He then hesitated, something resonating within. He blinked at it, a breeze shifting through the trees, wood creaking as his form glowed, revealing the bones underneath. A moment later the hatchling's mostly golden eyes shifted to azure with streaks of white and yellow.
I understand. A reverent voice rose.
I know who I am!
Unity lit up in joy as soon as he understood what he meant.
"A name!" He cheered, Limbo looking on with a grin.
They were one step closer to unlocking the Rock of Kuthian.
