VIII*

A beeping echoed in Eldwin's mind. A shiver ran up every muscle he had before gripping his lungs. He opened his eyes and tried jolting upwards from the sudden pain, only to find straps lying against his chest, keeping him tied down. Eldwin tried to pull his arms up; they had also been strapped down to the bed. "Eldwin," a voice called as Kirk appeared over his face. He placed a hand on his shoulders. "It's okay, calm down. You had an accident, and your parents brought you to the hospital. It's me, Kirk."

Eldwin stopped struggling and gazed at his bully's face. He calmed down and took deep breaths. The last thing he remembered was passing out in his room and red demonic eyes glowing above his face. He turned his head toward Kirk. There was a chair against the wall with snow all around the walls and frost coating the walls. "What happened?" He coughed. His throat hurt as if he had been screaming. He watched as Kirk glanced toward the door and sighed.

"I am not allowed to tell you. Your father swore me to silence, but I imagine he will tell you sooner." Eldwin watched as Kirk dropped onto the bed.

"Why are you here? Are you going to hurt me more than I already am?" Eldwin hissed through his teeth.

Kirk turned to him. Eldwin could tell there was sadness in his eyes. "Excuse me. I need to alert the desk you're awake so they can page your mother. They're allowing her to be your secondary nurse." With that, Kirk rose off the bed and walked out of view. The click of a door alerted him that he had left the room. Eldwin closed his eyes, searching for the reason that he was in the hospital and tied down. Nothing came to mind except the cold grip of ice. He opened his eyes and tried squirming some more. He heard the door slam shut once more. He turned his head and watched his mother come in with Mr. Del Mastro and Kirk following close behind.

Eldwin's mother threw her arms around his neck as Kirk leaned against the wall with his arms crossed. The teacher appeared on the other side of his bed. "Oh, Eldwin," his mother cried, "I was so scared. Thank you for coming back to me."

"How are you feeling?" His teacher asked him.

"I won't know until I can move." Eldwin looked away. Eldwin watched as the teacher nodded.

"Okuta." He heard the teacher speak. His mother moved out of the way as Eldwin felt his restraints remove themselves from his body. Pain racked his body as he started sitting upright. The bed moved with him, giving him support. His mother began looking him over. Eldwin looked down on the side of the bed as heavy objects hit the floor. Any warmth he felt left his body from the action. He watched Kirk pull away from the wall with a hand hovering over his bracelet; the gem glowed.

"What was that?"

His mother and the teacher glanced at each other. "I'll tell you in a few days. Right now, I want you to rest." He felt his mother placing a hand against his forehead. "Rax," she jerked her hand away. Eldwin watched as the frost started coating her fingers before melting off. The teacher reached over and grabbed her hand.

"It will be fine. Kirk and I will keep an eye on him. Go about your day." Eldwin watched as his mother nodded and ran out. Eldwin reached a hand for her. He didn't know why, but seeing her leave like that hurt him. He bit down on his lip until it drew blood. Snow began falling around him. He watched Kirk pick up one of the stones before looking at the snow falling around him. "Calm down." His spoke. Eldwin jumped and looked at him. The teacher's kind face had been replaced with a complex feature that bore into his soul.

"Why!" Eldwin shouted; the snow whirled around him, pushing the men back against the wall. "No one will tell me anything. I black out in my room and wake up tied to a bed! Why should I calm down and let you walk all over me!" Ice shards rose out of the ground. He watched as they both avoided them with ease. Laughter rang out in his ears. The voice egged him on to continue the assault.

"Okuteeka Amayinja g'Omuliro!" He heard the teacher shout. The strips rose off the ground and locked onto his wrists and across his body. He kicked his feet toward Kirk. The King jumped out of the way of an initial that shot off his foot. Warmth flooded his body as he became unmovable. Eldwin gritted his teeth and struggled against his bonds. "I'm sorry, this had to happen, Eldwin. The next time you wake up, we will explain everything. Please rest and be at peace." Eldwin fought against his bonds as a golden glow appeared on the teacher's hand. "Otulo." He heard the teacher speak. His eyelids began falling, and then everything went black.
