Jedediah looked at Octavius with an utterly confused look on his face. "D-Doctor?"
Octavius' jaw dropped.
"Surely coincidental?" He whispered, almost inaudibly.
The Doctor smirked slightly.
"What? Heard of me?"
"Guess you can say that," Jedediah cocked an eyebrow.
"Are you familiar with things called 'Weeping Angels?'" Octavius pondered.
"Oh! Yes, yes. Terrifying creatures, they are. Why? Have you seen any around?" He whipped out his sonic and waved it in the air.
"Yeah, guess you can say that...," Jed repeated, now more startled and confused than ever.
"Do you have a brother?" Octavius finally thought up a polite way to express their concerns.
The Doctor rolled his eyes playfully.
"What's with the string of personal questions?" He joked. "No, I doubt you'd have ever seen any of my family. They're... not around anymore. Not since the Time War." The Doctor's voice sounded a bit heavier on the last sentence, but he forced himself to perk up and he smiled again.
Octavius was about to question him about he Time War, but The Doctor spoke again.
"So, since you know all about me, how about you tell me your names?"
Octavius stepped forward and bowed slightly, crossing his arm over his chest as Romans do.
"I am General Octavius of the Roman Empire,"
They shook hands.
"Name's Jedediah, boy," Jed smirked and nodded. He would have tipped his hat as cowboys do, but it was back in his own time zone. He felt a bit off without his hat, so he turned the start of his arm motion into a salute.
The Doctor shook his hand as well.
"Pleasure's all mine, I'm sure," The Doctor smiled. "Now... don't suppose you've seen a red-haired woman about yea high? Name's Donna, and she told me she'd meet me around here."
Octavius looked to Jedediah and both men shook their heads.
"I shall help you look," Octavius saud, nodding curtly.
"You really don't have to...," The Doctor began, but Octavius insisted.
The men completed their purchases and strode off, snacking on fruits and idly talking among themselves. As they continued down the cobbled streets in the Roman city, a few men bowed or nodded respectfully at Octavius as he passed.
"Why're they all bowin' at ya?" Jed asked curiously.
"I assume it's because they recognize the Roman armor," The Doctor said, his eyes following two passing citizens as they politely nodded to Octavius. "It's typical of Roman generals of high respect."
Octavius reddened. "Yes. Thank you, Doctor. I believe that they recognize me from my times in battle." He trailed off shyly, almost embarrassed by the attention.
The one thing that changed his mind, however, was a soldier in the streets with his back to the oncoming group of travelers. His attire differed from Octavius, mostly created with copper and bronze, and a flatter helmet. But Octavius spotted his profile as he spoke and dropped the remaining bit of his fruit.
Octavius started forward at a walk, then broke into an excited run before turning the man to face him and embracing the young man.
The brown haired soldier stood stiff for a moment before awkwardly bringing his arms around the older gentleman. Octavius was beaming, but almost on the edge of tears.
"The last time I saw you was in battle. I'd thought the Greeks had overtaken you!" Octavius looked quickly from Jedediah to The Doctor and back to the soldier. "I have never been so happy to be wrong."
He sighed, holding the soldier at arm's length. "Rory, my friend, we meet again at last...,"
