Sarmassophobia
You wake up the next morning feeling guilty about last night. Sun is still in the same position, hugging you and nuzzling his face into the crook of your neck. You really wish you had your nail file. You just need something to take the edge off.
Yawning, you absentmindedly touch the sun rays that were close to your face. Touching one causes a couple others around it to twitch. Huh. Cute. Sun's blank eyes flash on.
"Good morning, Honeybee!" he greets, lifting himself up to see you. "Were you touching my rays?" he asks teasingly.
You blush and look away. "Uh...kinda." They start spinning as he laughs.
"Well, you can play with them if you'd like! But they're very sensitive so don't pull!" You never really thought about what they could and couldn't feel. Man, you really don't know that much about them, do you?
You scratch your arm, the itch to relieve yourself getting stronger. You know there's no way you'll be able to hurt yourself like before, but you just need something small that can sting. You eye the tube in the wall. You've never actually been back there...maybe there's something you can use.
"Hey, Sunny?" Said bot hums in response, running a finger up and down your leg as the two of you lay there. "I'm pretty hungry."
Sun gasps, sitting up. "Oh, of course! We'll be right back! Anything you want in particular?" You sit up as he walks to the balcony.
You shake your head. "No. Whatever is fine."
"Be back in a jiffy!" He salutes you before falling backwards off the balcony. You can't help but giggle from the theatrics before getting up to squat in front of the tube. You take a deep breath. You need to be quick.
You dive in and make the short trip to the other side. You hop out into the darkness. A lone bulb hangs on the ceiling, beaded chain dangling right next to it, but when you pull it, it only sparks. You can just make out some boxes in the corner and video game cabinet against the wall.
It doesn't appear to be on, so you ignore it. You pull one of the boxes over to the tube to use what little light it gives. 'SUPPLIES' is written in sharpie on the side. You dig into it.
You seem to only sift through glitter glue, crayons, and stickers. There's got to be something else! A loud thud startles you, causing you to hurriedly shut the box and slide it back to the corner.
"Sun...Sunflower?" The tone of voice Sun uses can't be good. You quickly dive back into the tube, making your presence known.
"I'm here! I'm here. Didn't leave, promise." You're pulled the rest of the way out by two strong hands. He lifts you up like a cat.
"My my!" the bot giggles. "You gave me quite the scare there!" Though his voice is back to being jovial, you can hear the slight edge it has. "Just what were you doing in there?"
You shrug to make it seem like not a big deal. "Exploring." Sun keeps you where you are as he stares at you. You fear you're going to start sweating if he keeps at it. He finally sets you down.
The solar bot leans down and waggles his finger as if scolding a child. "How about you leave that room for now, okay? It's very messy, messy, messy! And dark, too! Don't want to get yourself hurt!"
You nod, eyes nervously spotting the discarded breakfast on the floor as if he threw it down in anger or shock. Sun follows your glance and skittishly goes to pick it up. He hands it to you, dusting it off beforehand, and you find out what he brought.
A package of bite sized pancakes. It's already been warmed up, too. They're fast. Excited for something you haven't tasted in probably years, you rip it open and dig in.
Sun happily watches as you scarf down your breakfast, taking the garbage from you when you finish. "Sooo," Sun starts, teetering on the balls of his feet and holding his hands together behind his back. "I was thinking we could have a date! Me and you!"
"Uh?" You rub the nape of your neck. "A date? Right after last night's?" You hate to be calling it that, but you have a feeling Sun wouldn't have it any other way.
"Well, yeah! You and Moon had yours! Now it's my turn! You...you love me like Moonie...right?"
"Uh..." You take a step back when he takes one towards you. You hate when he gets insecure about your non-existent relationship.
"Be-because we're a package deal, Moonie and I...and I love, love, love you just as much as he does! We don't want you picking favorites here!" He catches you by the shoulders, leaning into your face, his eyes manically search yours. "You like me, too, right, Sweetheart?"
You grab hold of his wrists to relieve some of the pressure he's applying and give him a shaky smile. "Of course, Sunny. I don't like one of you more than the other."
His fingers rhythmically tap. "You promise?"
You pull at his arms, finally getting him to release you. You take one of his hands in both of yours, patting the top. "I promise, Sun."
Hysterics gone, Sun goes right back to excitable. "Goodie! I have it all planned out! We'll do it right after the Daycare closes!"
You frown. That's awful soon, anyone could come in, couldn't they? Though, if Sun had this all planned out, and with how meticulous they are with everything, you wouldn't be surprised if he did something or knew something where he was sure no one would come.
The sound of children takes both of your attentions away. "Duty calls, Starshine!" Sun grabs the back of your head. You splutter as he places a kiss on your forehead. "Mwah! See you later! There's a Moondrop in the desk if you need help sleeping without us!"
He leaves and you're left grumbling. Of course you need help sleeping without them, he knows that, he's just being...himself, you supposed. After all, it's their fault for causing your co-dependency.
But, before you sleep the day away, you want to go back to the other room. You crouch down, ready to crawl in when Sun reemerges from behind the curtain. You squeal, thankfully not super loud.
"I almost forgot your ankle!" he sings. You huff and crawl into bed, hoping he didn't realize what you were in position to do. "Oh! So obedient!" he praises as you got into bed without any complaint. You blush at the praise. You're not a dog!
"When can I not have this?" you ask tersely.
Sun tsks, "Now now, don't give us attitude! This is for your safety! It's because of you that we had to use the door and now that you know about it, we can't take any chances." He boops you on the nose with a smile and then hastily returns to the kids.
He's right. It's your fault for everything that's happened.
You sigh, hands becoming jittery. You eye the drawer that holds the Moondrops. You should probably take one so you don't lie awake with the urge to hurt yourself anymore. You have nothing to use, anyways.
You lean over and pull it open, grabbing the wrapped piece of candy. You remove the layer and stare at the deep blue coloring of it. You just sleep all day nowadays. These things are so strong, you sleep for at least five hours-ish each time.
You've always wondered why. The ones the kids took only knocked them out for an hour or so. Moon must have stronger ones for whatever reason, and honestly? you're not exactly complaining since you've gotten horrible sleep without the two and taking a Moondrop allows you to actually fall asleep without crippling anxiety.
With a lick to your lips, you pop the candy into your mouth, enjoying the blue-raspberry flavoring, and you're out in only a few minutes.
~~
"Sunshiiine!" A boisterous, yet soft voice wiggles into your head. You groan and attempt to roll over. A hand catches your shoulder and keeps you in your current position. "Wake up, Honeybee!" Your face scrunches up as you try to open your eyelids.
They feel as if they weigh a ton but you manage to open them, blinking away the sleep. You put a hand to your face and groggily drone, "Huh?"
"My my, you sure were out like a light! But there's no time to sleep when I have big plans for us! It'll be so much fun, fun, fun!" Sun's face spins as he talks to you but you hardly comprehend what he's saying.
You sit up and run that same hand down your face. You're so out of it, you're not even sure what day of the week it is anymore. Sun finally backs away from you, opting to pace around the room and continue to ramble on about some plans he made.
"-and then we'll watch a movie and finally build a fort for when we go to bed!" You had managed to catch the tail end of what he was spouting.
"Huh?" you repeat.
Sun turns to you and giggles at your disheveled state. "Our date, silly!"
Ah. You forgot he wanted to have a date like the one you had apparently had with Moon. You scratch your arm, the tingling feeling of needing some relief already returning. "Does it have to be tonight? I dunno if I can-"
You're cut off by Sunny lifting you up and hugging you. You instinctually wrap your dangling legs around his torso to better steady yourself, arms wrapping around his neck in shock. "Of course it has to be tonight! I've been waiting, waiting, waiting! You've been asleep way past closing time and I was going to wake you up but Moonie said I should let you sleep off the Moondrop!"
You lean your face back to actually look at the animatronic as you tell him, "I feel like I took seven."
He just laughs at you, removing an arm to boop your nose. "No matter. Moon's done his first rounds of security and now we can have our date!"
Before you can protest, you're whisked all the way down to the play area, being placed unceremoniously on the squishy flooring. But that's not the end of being moved around like a rag doll, as you're immediately pushed out the entrance and in front of the bathrooms.
"You should freshen up, Starflower!" You're ashamed to admit you like the new nickname he just called you. "Everything is already set up, so it's all on you to get ready!" You can only nod and start to open the bathroom door.
Once inside, you half expect the jester to follow you in. It wouldn't be the first time ever since your incident. He doesn't and you're not left wondering why for long once you spot the clothes on the counter.
He was giving you privacy to change, of course. Otherwise, he'd probably be in here fussing over your hair and what not.
You sigh and lift the clothing up to inspect it. It's nothing too...heinous at least. A simple skirt and top with a space theme motif. You roll your eyes, totally not smiling.
Before changing, you splash some cold water in your face, immediately feeling the jolt and waking you up more. You risk a glance in the mirror at yourself. Your skin and overall look is healthy and clean but...your eyes hold a different story.
You try not to dwell and go to change. The material is soft and comfy, though you don't care for skirts as it makes your legs exposed, potentially your messed up thighs, too. You pull the waist band down far enough to make yourself more comfortable but not too far where your belly shows.
"I can do this," you tell yourself. You did one with Moon, had a good time until the end, so having one with Sun would be no different.
You leave the bathroom, stopping in your tracks when Sun scurries away and avoids eye contact as if he wasn't just up against the door. You narrow your eyes at him but he ignores you.
"Oh you look adorable, Starshine!" he gushes, hands on his cheeks. "So precious!" His eyes rake over you and you begin to feel self conscious. You're full-on nervously shifting in place by the time Sun makes a move towards you.
You splutter as you're suddenly pulled back into the daycare. A little kid's table, typically used for arts and crafts, is set up like a romantic dinner scene. A little vase of paper flowers in the center, dinner on one end, and even a couple candles on the other ends.
You look on in sadness. It's...cute. Super cute. You can't help but admire the work and effort the two must have spent doing this. You don't remember the last time someone did something so nice for you.
Maybe when...
You shake your head. You try not to think of the past too often as it usually leads you down a spiral and then that causes you to seek relief. You must have sat down while lost in thought, because Sunny is across from you, face in his hands and just staring at you like a loving date.
"You're so...daydream-y lately, Sunflower. Is everything okay?" His fingers tap on the table top rhythmically.
"Uh..." You open the fast food container that was sat in front of you. It was a Glam Burger with a side of fries. "That's a bit of a loaded question don't you think?" you finally answer him.
He tilts his head. "How so?"
Suddenly, this food is much more interesting than the conversation he's trying to hold. You move the fries around with your finger. A larger, yellow and white finger invades your vision and snatches a fry. You look up.
"Open wide!" Sun smiles widely, holding the fry in front of you. You don't listen and can only wonder what went wrong in your life to be in this position. Sunny pouts. "Oh come on! Humans on dates feed each other all cutesy like don't they?"
You look away. "Maybe if both parties were enthusiastic about it." You hear the fry drop back in with the others. You start to shake your legs, nerves getting the better of you.
Sun reaches his arm over the table and grasps your hand. "Star...your vitals are spiking. What's wrong, Love?"
Ungrateful. He did all of this for you and you're not enjoying it. Look how sad he is.
Every time they do something like this for you, it just serves as a reminder that this is being forced onto you. You're not out on a date with a nice guy you met having a good time. You're on a date with an animatronic daycare attendant that kidnapped you in the name of love.
You steal a glance at his face and sure enough, he's downtrodden and his rays droop as if they were wet. You bite your lip. "I'm just having troubles with all of this. People haven't exactly been nice to me like you and Moon have."
Sun sits up straight, surprised. "Oh? Is that all, Sunshine? Well me and Moon will do well in showering you with gifts and nice gestures all the time then! You'll get used to it in no time!"
You attempt to give him a reassuring smile. It seems to do the trick as he eagerly picks another fry up to try to feed you again. You eat from his hand to placate him as your hand goes down to scratch at your thigh.
The scars and scabs itch horribly but you try not to let him know, not wanting him to worry or fuss over them. He's having an absolute blast feeding you, talking about how he's never had a date before and how perfect it's going.
You really need some relief but you don't think asking him for something would go over well. You need to get back up to that extra room and find something, anything that could help you. Your nails are just too short to garner any sort of benefit, Moon's made sure of that.
"Didn't you say something about a fort?" You cut him off from his excited babbling.
His milky white eyes blink a couple times. "Yes! But, but, but! That's after the movie!" he insists as if he's on a tight schedule.
"Well, can't we build the fort and then watch the movie from inside of it? That'd be more fun." You want him to take the time to grab items for the fort and get the TV upstairs at the same time so you have an ample opportunity to snatch something for yourself.
The rays around Sunny's face spin slowly as if it were a loading screen circle. He scoots his chair back as he jumps out of it. "That's an amazing idea, Starlight!" He stands to the side of you and makes 'grabby hands'.
You close your container, having only eaten half the burger but all the fries, and ask, "Where's the garbage for this?"
Sun briefly acknowledges it before waving a hand. "I'll take care of it! Now come on!" He flexes his fingers impatiently, legs bouncing in excitement for the next plans.
You stand up and only manage to brush off a little bit of crumbs before you're swept into his arms and hoisted back up to your room.
"Okay!" He puts one hand on his hip and holds his other up, finger pointed. "I'll be right back to get the television and fort materials! You get your pajamas on and pull your blankets off the bed to make the floor comfy!"
You smile, trying to look fired up. "Okay!" He bounces away and you're left alone. You shoot yourself through the tube, wasting no time. Instead of searching the same supplies box from earlier, you randomly select a different one and drag it to the hole.
You huff. This one is just another box of craft material, albeit different from the previous one. You almost go to put this box away when your hand gets pricked from something within. You pull it out and shake it.
You begin to remove items to find what it was that hurt you when you finally come across pipe cleaners. Perfect! A pipe cleaner's end is always sharp due to the wire within. You pull out the lime green colored item and close the flaps, putting back where you found it.
Without another second wasted, you return to your bedroom. The sound of something heavy being lugged up stairs echoes behind the wall. You panic and shove the pipe cleaner under your pillow and start to rip the blankets off of your bed.
Once everything is strewn on the floor you spot the pajamas in the corner. You need to change before he sees you or else he'll get suspicious on what took you so long to do so.
Your skirt is discarded easily enough and you're able to shimmy the soft PJ pants on, but as soon as your shirt comes off, the secret door opens. "Ta-da!" Sunny expresses jubilantly. "I got- Oh..." He's frozen in his tracks, as are you, as you stand there with no shirt on.
"L-look away!" you shriek. Your cries seem to jump-start him as he hurriedly looks away, closing the door behind him.
"I-I-I'm sorry! I didn't think you'd be changing at that moment!" he shakily apologizes. You throw on your night shirt, cheeks beet red. "A-are you done?" his voice squeaks.
"Yeah..." you tell him, tersely.
When he turns back around, his eyes rake over you again and his rays spin happily. You avoid eye contact, not even wanting to know what he was thinking.
He's probably disgusted.
The two of you are silent as he sets the TV up. The pile of soft items he brought for the fort were tossed in your direction when he arrived, so you start organizing what he found. Mostly just pillows and blankets.
"All done!" Sun finds you struggling to make any semblance of a wall. "H-here, let me help, Starflower..." You're not sure how he was able to keep the pillows balanced but you're impressed nonetheless.
You continue to be silent, pointing at the movie you want from the selection he presented to you as he goes to put it in and you settle into the fort. You get a whimsical feeling just being in it. You miss the innocence you once had.
You awkwardly scoot to the side as Sun begins to shimmy his way in. "Are you comfortable?" he asks you. The two of you lay on your stomachs, cushioned by the many pillows. You lay flat, head turned towards him.
"Yeah." His arm wraps around you and pulls you close. You snuggle up next to him, cursing yourself for doing so but unable to help it. You like the closeness. The companionship. Something you've never really had before.
Happy you cuddled up to him, Sun leans down and coos, giving you little kisses on the side of your face. You giggle from the tickling feeling.
"St-stop!" He attacks your ear. "Ah!" You laugh, trying to swat him away.
He retreats only to tell you, "You're just so cute I can't help it!" before attacking you once more.
You squeal, "The-the movie!" Instead of the kisses, you're being full blown tickled at this point, effortlessly as Sun lies on his side. "Pl-aha-please!" Sun finally relents, letting you catch your breath.
"I'm saving that."
Sun chuckles at Moon, watching you adoringly as your chest rises and falls. You finally calm down enough to sit up. You feel... elated. Loved. When's the last time you've been tickled? Why did you like it so much?
You flip back onto your stomach and start watching the movie.
You don't even notice the tingle that urges you to hurt yourself has subsided
~~
You roll over, waking up. Wait. You're not in your bed. You shoot up, heart racing and wide awake. Oh. That's right. You must have fallen asleep while watching movies with Sun in the fort he built.
You turn to see the unmoving form of said bot. You breathe out a sigh of relief, glad to have not woken him up.
"Hi, cutie," he suddenly says. You scream, falling backwards and knocking down the wall of pillows. The whole thing collapses on the two of you. As you pull the blankets from your face, you can hear the giggles coming from the pile.
Finally, Sunny's rays poke through and his head comes next. "What was that!?" you breathe out, eyeing him. His eye-lights are totally dark, no sign of any light.
He shoves pillows aside and chuckles. "I made sure to turn my lights off so I wouldn't wake you!"
"So how long were you awake for?"
The bot hums giddily, finger tapping his chin. "About fifteen minutes or so!" You shove the thought of him just lying there, still as a statue, watching you sleep, to the back of your mind. "I woke up when you started whining in your sleep..."
You stare down at the floor. You haven't had nightmares in a while, so why were you whining? You go to ask but Sunny thinks out loud, answering your unspoken question. "I suppose falling asleep on the floor with just of couple blankets as padding wasn't the best for your back..."
As soon as he mentions this, your back aches. Great. With a yawn, you stand up, the blankets falling off gracefully, and head to bed. You sit down and get yourself comfy, only now noticing that he has not moved.
"Sun? Whatcha doin'?"
His eye-lights flicker on as he turns to you. "Hm? Oh, sorry, Honey! Moon was just yelling at me!"
You laugh, not just a light chuckle, not a full blown guffaw, but a genuine laugh. Sun's rays spin at the sound. He giggles with you and stands up. Immediately, he scans the mess. "Clean up!" he says, bending over to begin picking up the pillows.
Your laughs finally die down and you lay down in bed, pulling the blanket up. You surprised yourself with that. How long has it been since you've laughed so earnestly? Your eyes begin to droop watching Sun do his thing.
Don't give in. Don't give up. This is what they want! You need to leave! Off yourself! Don'tgiveindon'tgiveindon'tgiveindon'tgiveindon'tgiveindon'tgivein
As they finally close, a smile rests upon your lips.
