Monaco
Addy watched the scenery flash by her window in a daze as they sped down the road. "Where're we going?"
"Monaco, there's a bit of an event going on there. Your father is expected to attend." Pepper replied, most of her focus on the paperwork in her lap.
"Where's Monaco?"
Tony groaned, "are you going to ask questions the entire way?"
"Monaco is a city state, one of only three in the world." Pepper stated, smacking Tony's arm warningly as she did so. "It's roughly near France."
Addy glanced between the adults nervously. "Do I need a passport? I don't have anything except the pjs in my bag..."
"I handled your passport sweetie, and went and bought you some things yesterday." The redhead responded focusing once more on her papers.
Addy hesitated at the bottom of the private jet's ramp, "do you know how many aircrafts crash annually?"
"Oh my word, Pepper! The kid is broken!" Tony groaned. Leaning against the railing. "Just get on the jet! We don't have time for this!"
Addy glared at his back as she silently climbed the ladder, refusing to look down. She curled into a seat in the center of the jet, buckling her safety belt and clinging to her green bag.
Pepper smiled gently at her before focusing on her papers. "You may as well go back to sleep sweetie, it's a long flight to Monaco."
Addy tried to sleep, really she did, but the knowledge that she was miles in the air with only engines and wind currents to hold her upward unsettling to the young child.
Pepper glanced between the obviously nervous child and her clueless father. "Tony, go talk to her."
"Whyyyy?" The man whined childishly. "The kid has a 'tude Pep!"
"Hmmmm I wonder where she may have gotten that from?" The redhead replied sarcastically. "Tony she's clearly a nervous flyer as her father it's your job to reassure her."
"I didn't ask to be her father..." The billionaire mumbled.
Pepper's eyes flashed in annoyance, "go. Comfort. Your. child." She hissed between clenched teeth.
Tony threw up his hands, "fine, fine, I'm going!"
He wandered over plopping down beside the girl. "Hey kid what's up?"
"Us unfortunately," Addy mumbled, her voice quivering slightly.
Tony snorted, "yeah, guess that's true. Why don't you like flying?"
Matching chocolate brown eyes locked together as the girl finally quit staring at her bag. She studied him silently until Tony felt the urge to squirm nervously. It wasn't so much that she scared him, obviously he wasn't afraid of a seven year old girl, the intensity with which she studied him, however, was off putting. "There's no huge backstory or anything," Addy finally responded, "I just don't like heights."
"You sure you're my kid?" Tony teased.
"Oh yeah because since I don't want to fly around way up in the air with no safety net I must belong to someone with half a brain hmmm?"
Tony threw his hands up defensively once more, "Hey don't bite my head off, you're allowed to be a wuss I suppose."
"I am not a wuss!" Addy snapped rounding on him in frustration.
"Look kid I'm only over here to try to calm you down because you're worrying Pepper. If you wanna sit here for the next twelve hours clinging to your bag that's fine with me."
Addy glared up at him, "yes because you couldn't possibly care how your child is feeling." She mumbled nearly inaudibly.
Tony rolled his eyes, standing abruptly. "Happy, come sit with the kid."
"Sir?"
"You heard me, kid, entertain her."
Happy glanced between the two Starks, "sir as your head of security it's my job to keep you safe and plan for possible threats-"
"-ok and as my head of security keeping me safe should include my.....uh...that-her." Tony stumbled uncertainly, still uncomfortable with voicing the fact that Addy was his.
The girl rolled her eyes as the stocky man sat hesitantly next to her. "Hi I'm Happy Hogan, your uh father's body guard." He greeted offering his hand.
Addy glared Tony's direction before shaking the offered hand, "hi, I'm 'that' apparently."
They lapsed into an awkward silence Addy picking at a threadbare spot on her bag, Happy tapping his thumbs together uncertainly. "Is he always like that?" The girl finally whispered, unwilling to let her father know she minded.
"Pretty much yeah," Happy responded.
"Fantastic." She mumbled with a sigh.
Happy went back to twiddling his thumbs uncertainly. "So uh, what do you like to do?"
The girl laughed then raising her eyebrow in amusement, "oh you know I make robots and such I'm very skilled."
"Oh, really?"
"No not really," she snorted, "I'm seven why would I want to make weapons and robots? I like reading, drawing, my rollerblades, my...cat." Her smile wavered then, "well I liked her, she was a good cat. Butterscotch, that was her name. Guess she went with my mother and gecko...."
Happy shifted awkwardly as the girl's eyes filled with tears. "Uuuuh, you like guns?" He blurted, reaching for his weapon and holding it towards the child for inspection.
The girl glanced at it skeptically, reaching out tentatively for the grip. "Are you meant to have a gun on a plane?"
"Perks of working for your father kid." The stocky man responded returning the gun to it's holster. "We get back I'll teach you to shoot it."
"Really?!"
"Yeah," happy promised, "as long as your dad doesn't mind."
Addy snorted, "why would he mind? He'd just be happy to have me out of his hair for a while."
Neither Addy nor Happy really knew what to say to one another after that and Tony didn't spare her another glance, as far as she could tell. When they finally arrived in Monaco it was pitch black. Addy stumbled down the steps in exhaustion, Happy narrowly managing to keep her from falling with a gentle hand on her shoulder. "What time is it? This doesn't even make sense! Is it yesterday morning? What's happening? I'm so confused!" She mumbled sleepily.
Pepper giggled lightly as she led them to a waiting car, "she wakes up like you for sure, Tony."
The billionaire grunted flopping back into his seat childishly. "A lot of people wake up cranky Pep."
Still, he had to admit she was adorable. The messy dark brown hair, the sleepy brown eyes, framed in dark curly eyelashes, and the way she slouched against Happy in exhaustion stirred his protective instincts uncomfortably. Tony nudged her knee with his foot, "wake up kid, I'm not carrying you through the hotel."
Pepper glared at him but didn't comment.
Addy trailed along sleepily through the massive hotel lobby doing her best to match the adults brisk pace. Somewhere along the way, probably when they passed the enormous, glistening fountain stationed a short ways from the circular check in desk, she lost sight of the adults.
The girl swayed where she stood, exhaustion warring with her need to find her father. Eventually she headed right down the nearest hallway hoping to locate the adults, who were seemingly clueless of her absence. It wasn't long before exhaustion won out, however, and addy collapsed tiredly on a lounge chair positioned primly in an alcove at the end of the hall. Her eyes closed and breathing deepened almost instantly, unaware of the panic ensuing in suite 473 at the top of the building.
