Chapter - 3 :: Inkaar Humko Bhi Hai, Inkaar Tumko Bhi Hai
I don't want this, you don't want this as well.
Jai arrived for lunch dressed in a light blue shirt and dark blue color jeans. Nirmala Devi pulled Jai by his arm and made him sit on the chair opposite to the one that is for the head of the family (Vennela's father). "You know beta Vennela has cooked.." Amar coughed loudly indicating Nirmala Devi to not lie one more time.
Covering up Nirmala Devi said, "What I was saying that Vennela has helped Devyani cook all your favorite dishes."
"Mine favorite? Who told you?" Jai asked frowning in confusion.
"I asked Chantu about it. Amar had called to get details about your arrival and I couldn't resist asking Chantu about what you like to eat and about few other things. I wanted you to feel comfortable here, just like your home." Nirmala Devi explained.
"Who's Chantu?" Jai asked sipping water slowly from his glass.
"Your father." she answered in casual tone making Jai spit out the water. He didn't know that his father's nickname was Chantu. Jai's reaction caused Amar to dissolve into chuckles, "Considering the way you reacted I think that your father didn't tell you about his nickname."
Jai wiped his mouth using a napkin and replied, "I really didn't know about it Uncle." he said. And then he looked at Amar and said, "Chantu?" making Amar laugh out again. His laugh so contagious that Jai couldn't stop himself from laughing as well.
When Vennela came out of the kitchen holding a huge bowl of salad she noticed that Jai was laughing along her father and was sitting on her chair. Her chair.
She huffed out a breath in anger, her nostrils flaring at the sight of Jai sitting on the chair that was hers, the one that is reserved for her. The chair that she's been sitting on since she started eating at the dinning table.
taking long strides Vennela walked towards the dinning table and placed the bowl on the table and then looked at Jai with angry eyes, "That is mine chair you are sitting on."
Jai muttered a quick sorry and was about to get up but Nirmala Devi pulled Jai back down, "Vennu beta you always sit on this chair, let Jai sit here today. After all what is yours is going to be his and what is his is going to be yours."
Amar slapped his forehead rather harshly and glared at his mother as they heard Vennela and Jai shout in unison, "EXCUSE ME?!"
Nirmala Devi giggled nervously noticing the appalled expression on Jai and Vennela's faces, "I meant when you two will get married.." seeing Amar glaring at her, "I meant if you two decide to get married then..."
"Lunch is ready." came Devyani's voice. Nirmala Devi let out a silent prayer thanking God for sending her daughter-in-law at the right moment saving her from what may have become a very embarrassing situation.
Ignoring the comment made by Nirmala Devi Jai got up from the chair nodding in Vennela's direction who sat on the chair giving her grandmother a don't-do-it-again look as Jai settled on the chair on the right of Vennela.
Nothing eventful happened during the lunch. Everybody except Vennela talked about common things while Vennela was toying with her food as she thought about the number of ways she can test Jai and get to know about his true nature plus she didn't like any of the dishes so prepared to please the unwanted guest called Jai.
After lunch Jai went back to the guesthouse and started making a list of the ways he can make Vennela reject this marriage alliance. On the other hand Vennela finally let out the anger that she had been keeping herself from letting out.
"Aap aisa kaise kar sakti hain?! How could you?!" Vennela asked slamming her earrings on the table.
"Was making me a clown for show wasn't enough for you that you had to spit out lies?" she threw away the bangles that she was wearing earlier.
All this time Amar and Devyani were standing away at a distance watching Vennela question her grandmother in anger. This was one thing that everybody who knew Vennela was scared off. Her anger. And how Nirmala Devi behaved today was like showing the bull a red color cloth.
"I don't even know how to operate the gas stove and you told him that I cooked the entire meal!" she pointed a finger at her grandmother, "Think about the embarrassment I would have to face if he asked me to cook after our marriage.." Nirmala Devi's face brightened up thinking that Vennela was giving her consent but all her dreams shattered the moment Vennela added, "IF we are gonna get married which to me is next to impossible."
Nirmala Devi pouted but Vennela had more to say, "And what was with that jo tera hai woh uska hai comment?!" Imitating Nirmala Devi, Vennela repeated the former's statement, "what is yours is going to be his and what is his is going to be yours" Vennela made a face, "What the hell!"
"Whatever I did was for your happiness. Jai is your happiness.."
"Are you God? Are you aware of everything that is gonna happen in future? Seriously Dadi what made you think that Jai is my happiness? What if he's my biggest nightmare? Seriously speaking I am not interested in getting married at this moment. We don't even know what type of guy he turns out to be one sexist pig making me stop working and asking me to take care of his home and stuff?!" Vennela was about to continue but Devyani spoke in between.
"He's not Sameer." said Devyani making Vennela go stiff. Nirmal Devi gestured Devyani to stay quiet. She may be a typical grandmother whose pestering actions aren't always appreciated but she was still a grandmother who didn't want to see her granddaughter hurt. And Nirmala Devi was aware that Sameer and his memories were a hurtful topic for Vennela.
"Mom."
"Devyani."
Amar looked at his mother and gave a small smile assuring her not to worry. Devyani can handle this.
"I know that what happened with Sameer was a bad experience for you but you cannot judge every man keeping Sameer in mind. Jai is not Sameer. I agree that we don't know much about Jai but that doesn't give you the right to pass such judgement!"
Devyani walked towards Vennela and hugged her sideways, "Abhinav is your best friend right?"
Vennela nooded in positive, her mood grim. Devyani continued, "What is Jai is like Abhinav? A good guy who will support you, love you, adore you and take care of you?"
Vennela was silent.
"Beta we have told you before that we aren't going to force you to get married and you promised to give Jai a chance. So why are you behaving like this now? Just please don't think of him as another Sameer. Give him a chance."
Vennela smiled and gave a small nod. Amar and Nirmala Devi joined them as they all shared a group hug.

"I don't think I am the right person for you Vennela. I am not that deserving."
Jai was practicing the way he would talk to Vennela about breaking this alliance by standing in front of the mirror rehearsing the act again and again.
"Nah! That will make me look bad. I should try something else. Hhhmmm.."
Frustrated Jai pulled his hair, "I don't know a thing about her! Without a proper reason how can I reject her or ask her to reject me?!"
Out of ideas he dialed a number and called his best friend, "What should I do?!" he asked the moment he heard her answer his call.
Shubhangi, Jai's best friend, chuckled hearing Jai's tone. She knew about the whole situation, knew that Jai didn't want to marry and the sole purpose of his visit to India was to reject the girl his father promised to marry him with.
"That girl is so weird! I wish I had recorded the way she welcomed me, you would have died laughing." Jai said thinking about the moment he met Vennela.
"And she doesn't talk. Either she stays in silent mode or just shoots angry looks at me. And that grandmother of hers! OMG! She was constantly trying to impress me saying Vennu did this, Vennu did that, blah blah blah!"
Shubhangi laughed and said, "It seems that this Dadi is more interested you than the girl."
Jai scowled, "Shut up!"
"You know she's so possessive about useless things like a chair! During lunch I sat on her chair and she was like 'How dare you sit at my place!' I am sure that if I hadn't stood up at time then she would have killed me or something."
"Stop exaggerating Jai!" Shubhangi said sternly, "You have just met her and from the things that you have told me I think that she isn't happy with this alliance either."
Jai thought about what Shubhangi said and that recalled all the events of the day and concluded, "I think you are right. She clearly didn't look happy with my presence. The looks she gave me suggest that she doesn't like me either. What do you suggest I should do?"
"I think you should ask her directly. Seedha seedha pooch lo, it may help." Shubhangi suggested.
"Hhhmm.."
****************
It was when Vennela had come to ask Jai if he wanted to go out for a walk after dinner so that they can talk to each other about stuff that Jai thought was the best moment to ask Vennela what he had wanted to ask after his conversation with Shubhangi.
"Vennela I want to say something." Jai started.
"It may sound bad but I want to be honest with you."
"Tell me." Vennela encouraged him to say what he wanted to.
"Actually I am not ready to get married, I mean this is so soon. We don't know about each other and to be honest I don't want to get married now. Marriage is not in my plans right now. You see I have planned my whole life and marriage is still 5 years away as per the plan. What I am trying to say that I don't want to get married and it is not because of you, it's just I don't want to get married right now. 5 years later, maybe yes but definitely not now."
Vennela bit her cheek trying to not to smile at him. She didn't have to do a thing and her problem got solved itself. Jai himself doesn't want to marry!
"So." Jai hoped Vennela would say something.
"So?" Vennela asked. She wanted to know as to what Jai wanted to hear.
"Do you want to get married to me?" Jai asked looking at Vennela, his tone serious.
Vennela stared at him for a minute, then staring directly into his eyes, she said, "No!"
His lips curved into a smile but before he could say something Vennela's phone rang, the screen displaying the name "Hospital" making Jai frown.
"Hospital?" he asked looking at Vennela.
Vennela ignored him and answered the call, "Yeah."
....
"What?!"
"Is everything okay?" Jai asked but Vennela gestured him to stop as she heard the person on the phone say something.
She pinched the bridge of her nose, "Everything was fine till this morning, what happened suddenly?"
....
"Get the OT ready. I am coming." ending the call Vennela rushed out leaving behind a perplexed Jai.

Precap : Ek Rishta Sajhedari Ka (A Relationship Of Partnership)
Vennela grinned widely and forward her hand towards Jai, "Let's seal this partnership with a handshake."
Jai's grin matched Vennela's as he shook hands with her, "Working together will be fun."
