Chapter Thirty Three

After getting dressed, Robert and Donna headed for the kitchen, where Donna began to cook bacon and Robert rummaged through the cabinets for dishes. Robert bit his lip for a moment and then spoke.

"You know, what you said upstairs, about how you'd be happy if I knew how I felt..." He began. Donna turned around and looked at him.

                                    "Yeah?"

"I have to be honest, when Jean and I were together, it was good. But she had other things in her life, and she broke up with me. I can't lie to you and say that a part of me still doesn't feel something for her. I mean, no matter what, we did go through alot together, but she's the past. She's gone, done for, I want to be with you. We are husband and wife."

Donna sighed. "Robert I want believe you, I do. But no matter what you kissed her. That means that some part of you isn't  done with her. I'm not saying you're not allowed to still like her, but I need to know whether or not you still want to be with her. Because if you do, then I don't think us being married is the best thing. I'd still help you get the kids, but after that we shouldn't be together. And if you don't still want to be with her, then you need to stop leading her on and giving her mixed signals."

"I already decided. I don't want to be with her. Two days before our wedding, I went to her house, and I told her that I can't be involved with her anymore." He said, leaning against the counter for a moment.

"But you kissed her again." said Donna, not looking up from the stove.

Robert's heart sank. She knew. "How-how did you...?" He struggled to ask.

"Because you don't wear lipstick." She replied.

"So what is it you want me to do?" He asked warily.

"Let me know if you're ready to be married." She said with a shrug.
