Prologue
The day he went in for the casting, was also the day they held the casting for the dogs. Noah still laughed at that, at how he'd left the car, already feeling like some kind of Hollywood diva, only to find himself surrounded by German Shepherd dogs and a few Dalmatians. Too bad he remembered vividly the casting call stated they were looking for a small dog. Something like a Yorkshire.
For the castings, he'd had to introduce himself – why did he want the position? Why Jacob in particular and not Revie, or Bastian? Did he have any problem with the fact he'd have to shoot some gay sex scenes? – and had then performed the boring monologue from Hamlet he'd brought to more or less every other casting he'd been in. Apparently, he'd satisfied the directors enough to take the next step.
The scene he'd be acting in was an extra, something they'd use as a promo – it was Jacob's birthday, a scene he'd share with one of the many actors wanting to land the role of Bastian. Too bad the casting directors clearly told him they still didn't have many convincing people, and Noah found himself talking to a faceless voice.
«I'm here.»
He was a bit sad about not having the chance to meet any of the other actors. For his other roles – well, he'd only ever landed another role, and that was a secondary character, but still – he'd always had the chance to test his chemistry with the other actors. Since he'd have to fake kiss – and also fake screw – this guy, he would have liked to get to know him. But he was getting too full of himself. He still hadn't gotten the role.
He looked up, to the voice, and smiled.
«Donuts!»
Oh, he wished those were real, but he'd seen a graphic designer and a stylist wondering whether they should add little pieces of edible food to the plastic props. Eating that donut would probably be the same as drinking petroleum.
«Are you happy?»
"I'd be happier with a real actor by my side, and real donuts," he thought, then smiled, cheeks burning with the lights, and looked down at the donut. It looked real enough to confuse his stomach, for sure. He hoped no one heard the grumbling. «I'm so happy,» he said, pressing with his tongue all around the "so" to bring emphasis. «Thank you for bringing me here, Bastian. I know we shouldn't date in public places...»
Noah didn't exactly get Jacob. He didn't like him too much. But he didn't have to like him, did he? He only had to perform.
«You don't have to thank me,» the voice spoke a bit too quickly, as if he wanted to get it done as soon as possible. Noah was not sure that was a good sign. «Today's your birthday. And you deserve the best, Jacob. Okay, cut, that was actually good, just don't show how disappointed you are with your donut if we ever cast you.»
«Do you already know when you'll let me know?» Noah asked, getting up.
«We've still got castings for a week or so. We'd like to have options,» the voice, a man with short hair and bright eyes, smiled. «If you haven't heard from us in ten days, start worrying.»
Noah arched a brow. «I'm worrying already.»
«Very Jacob of you,» the man smiled, gave a small nod. «See you soon, maybe. Who's next?»
Noah left the room as another boy, with platinum blonde hair, entered. They didn't exchange looks. Everyone was his enemy, there, for the day. Well, everyone but the girls. And the dogs.
«Could you move away, please?» Noah looked up at a girl with a high ponytail, trying to pass through the corridor he was occupying. «I'm trying to get to my own casting, Brad Pitt.»
«I'm sorry,» he shook his head. «I was thinking.»
«Not rehearsing?» two steps and she was already too far for him to analyze her face. «Because that's what actors do at castings, Pitt. Rehearse and hope they get the job. You should try that sometime.»
"Isn't that exactly what I'm doing?" Noah blinked. After all, he'd just walked out of the casting room. He had nothing else to do but hope. With one last confused look at the girl, he walked back to his car. He just had to wait for ten days.
Is this thing hella short? Yes, indeed. But it's just an intro I wanted to write at all costs before digging deeper into the fiction and Olza's webcomic, so, I promise things will get better and way more elaborate.
Is the boy with platinum hair going to be cast as Jacob? Or is Noah?
And who's the girl running late to her own casting?
Yeah, not much of a mystery, but you'll find out in the next chapters ;)
