And So Romeo Forgot His Lines
I flipped my hair as I walked with my best friend Paige through the school hallways. It was the first day of school and we were excited to see what hot boys we would have classes with since our schedules were pretty close.
We walked into our first period English class and joined Sara. “So, Ohmigosh, tell me how I have 3rd period with,” Sara made a face, “Richie.” Paige and I gasped. “You do not!” I cried. She nodded sadly. Richie was a super emo kid. Probably the second biggest emo douche next to…god I can’t even say his name without getting a bad taste in my mouth.
Our English teacher did the standard first day crap. Introduced herself, took attendance, and passed out papers describing goals for the year and her grading system. I could already tell that this year was going to be boring.
Reading?
Who does that anymore?
Finally, we got out of there and went to second period. It was a study hall with gym every other day. How boring. The teacher just told us to be quiet and sit down. Naturally, Paige and I talked. Gossiping about who had gotten cute over the summer.
Third period was another study hall with a teacher who didn’t seem to care what we did. I had this period without Paige but I had it with my friends Gabby and Jess. Not to mention Luke, a total hottie.
Fourth period was Spanish, so boring, not to mention the teacher seemed like a nut. Fifth period was world history with a strict guy who droned on about how much we were going to learn. Sixth period lunch. Our popular table hadn’t shrunken even with our new schedules. Seventh period was living environment with lab every other day and ninth was geometry with lab every other day that I didn’t have living lab.
I walked into geometry and thought I might shoot myself. He was in this class?! How unlucky could I possibly get? He looked up and his eyes locked on me. A grin spread on his face.
“Hello there Alexandria,” he said cockily. Stupid ass hole. “Hello Seamus.” Seamus Fitzpatrick and I had been enemies ever since we met in kindergarten. He had always been a cocky jerk, even back then.
Seamus was an emo. The most emo kid in our entire school. He was also the meanest kid in our school. He had black hair and cold green eyes that looked like fresh grass after rain. He was fairly white and very skinny. He wore tight black jeans and a black band shirt with black wristbands. He wore a black slouch beanie. His hair threatened to hide his eyes.
Back when I had met him, he’d had red hair, been incredibly white, and had had the same green eyes. And the cocky smirk. I’m pretty sure he’d been born with the cocky smirk.
“Something interesting, Ms. Arnold?” I mentally groaned. Mr. Capria taught this class? Mr. Capria was a nasty teacher. He was mid forties with thinning brown hair and mean brown eyes. Those eyes were currently trained on me. “No, Mr. Capria,” I said and sat down next to Paige.
He pulled out an attendance sheet. “Some of you may have had me last year for algebra. Well, this is geometry now. Learn it or get out!” Such a positive teacher, right? He began reading names, mine being first of course.
His eyes widened and narrowed. “Where is Mr. Fitzpatrick?” Seamus looked up uninterested. “Yea dude, what do you want?” “I want you to behave this year,” Mr. Capria growled. Like every other teacher, Mr. Capria hated Seamus. Seamus laughed. “It’s nice to want.”
“Stupid emo,” Paige grumbled. The bell rang not long after Mr. Capria shut his giant mouth and Paige and I gathered our stuff. I spun around and gasped. Seamus was right in my face. He smirked. “Good to see you again Alexandria. How was your summer?”
I shoved by him roughly. “Look emo fag, don’t talk to me.” I was too popular for him! “Oh, baby got spunk!” I spun around and slapped him. “Shut up Seamus!”
Richie, a blond emo and Seamus’s best friend, came over and laughed. “Shame, I don’t think she likes you.” Got that right emo boy. “She’ll give in. I’ll have her knocked up by the end of the year.” I slapped him again. He gave me that trademark smirk.
He turned and walked away with Richie.
“I hate him,” I growled as Paige and I left the geometry room to get on our buses. “Doesn’t everyone?” Paige said with a sigh. “I can’t even understand him half the time!” I agreed with her. Seamus had the heaviest Scottish accent I had ever heard.
We went outside and climbed on our bus together. I sat next to the window and gossiped some more with Paige. I heard a tap at the open bus window and turned to see Seamus. “Alexandria, Alexandria, where are you Alexandria?”
“That’s not how it goes!” I yelled and slammed the window angrily. Paige gave me a sympathetic look as I brushed through my blonde hair with my fingers.
This was certainly going to be a long year.
