Together We Are Stronger
After Last call we all walk to the car.
"Who the hell was she," Dean asks.
"I don't really know. I only met her once. Meeting up with her again? I don't know, man, it's weird," Sam tells us.
"And what was she saying? I treat you like luggage? What, were you bitchin' about me to some chick," Dean starts. I hang my head back and make an annoyed sigh, which goes ignored by the two men.
"Look, I'm sorry, Dean. It was when we had that huge fight when I was in that bus stop in Indiana. But that's not important, just listen—," Sam starts trying to defend himself.
"Well, is there any truth to what she's saying? I mean, am I keeping you against your will, Sam, Ariel," Dean continues on his rant. At the mention of my name, I hit my head against my hand trying to make my head hurt for a reason better than being dragged into the testosterone fight.
"No, of course not," Sam and I say together. Dean gives us the looks that he always gives when we do the and quote 'creep twin talk'.
"Will you two stop that, its Creepy," he tells us.
"Fine! Now, would you listen," Sam tells Dean annoyed because he wasn't listening to the actual issue at hand.
"What," Dean yells back.
"I think there's somethin' strange going on here, Dean," Sam starts.
"Yeah, I figured out as much, Sammy. Something felt off with her, like her energy wasn't fitting her," I tell Sam knowing that if Dean responded his ego wasn't going to fit in to the motel room.
"Why didn't you tell me," Sam asks.
"Well you were too into the woman for me to tell you anything," I tell him, "did you happen to catch her last name. maybe we can do some research about her. Anything more you can tell me".
"Her last name is Masters. She's from Andover, Massachusetts, and Dean see if you can't dig anything up on that symbol on Meredith's floor," Sam tells us starting to walk off.
"What are you gonna do," Dean calls out to him.
"I'm gonna watch Meg," Sam tells us.
"Yeah, you are," Dean tells him back.
"God you are such a Perv," I tell him rolling my eyes.
"I just wanna see what's what. Better safe than sorry," Sam starts.
"All right, you little-," Dean tells him back.
"How about I go so I don't have to hear pervy comments," I say with a look of annoyance.
"No, I got it, besides she knows me if she sees me I can talk my way out of it," Sam says leaving.
"Alright let's go Casanova, we have work to do," I tell Dean dragging him to the motel we are staying in.
After doing a lot of research on Meg Masters and the symbol on the apartment carpet. Got some hits but nothing to explain her being here. Time to tell Sam the bad news.
"Are you calling Sammy or will I," I tell Dean with a defeated look.
"you can, I wanna make a different call," he tells me with a smirk.
"And with that note, I'm going outside," I tell him briskly walking out the door to avoid hearing about my oldest brother's sex life or witness it. I dial Sam's number and wait for him to pick up.
"Hey Airy got anything," I hear through the phone.
"There is a Meg Masters in the Andover phonebook. I even pulled up her high school photo. And the symbol. It's, uh—turns out it's Zoroastrian. Very, very old school, like two thousand years before Christ. It's a sigil for a Daeva. Which means "demon of darkness". Zoroastrian demons, and they're savage, animalistic, you know, nasty attitudes—kind of like, uh, demonic pit bulls," I explain.
"Anything else," Sam asks.
"You doubt us? Yes, actually they have to be summoned, well conjured," I tell him.
"So, someone's controlling it," he asks me.
"Yeah, and, from what Dean gather, it's pretty risky business, too. These suckers tend to bite the hand that feeds them. And, uh, the arms, and torsos," I tell him.
"So, what do they look like," he asks.
"There in lies the issue. Nobody knows, but nobody's seen 'em for a couple of millennia. I mean, summoning a demon that ancient? Someone really knows their stuff. I think we've got a major player in town," I tell him
"Oh, no, no, no, I'm just—," I hear Sam start. Followed by a woman's voice saying pervert. I chuckle into the phone and hang up going to the room I rented for Sam and I.
An hour later I hear a banging on the room door, I get out of the bed rubbing my eyes. I look out the peep hole and see Sam standing there. Opening the door, I let him in.
"Thought you were following Meg," I ask him still rubbing my eyes and yawning.
"I was then I saw some shit, we need to go to Dean," he tells me.
"Alright, let me grab a jacket, I have a feeling that we are going out later and its cold outside," I tell him grabbing my coat off the floor. After I got my coat on we went down the hall and knocked on our brother's door.
"Dean we need to talk," Sam says banging on the door. Dean opens the door thankfully dressed, and lets us in.
"Thought you had a date," I asked with a smirk.
"I did, she already left," he tells me smirking back.
I sit down at the table not trusting either bed in the room knowing my brother.
While sitting down Sam starts to explain what he saw Meg do. Then after allowed for questions.
"So, hot little Meg is summoning the Daeva," dean asks.
"Looks like she was using that black altar to control the thing," he tells him.
"And what's the deal with that bowl again," Dean asks. 'Sometimes I swear he doesn't listen to us' I think over to my twin.
"She was talking into it. The way witches used to scry into crystal balls or animal entrails. She was communicating with someone," Sam better explains to my brother.
"With who? With the Daeva," he asks.
"No, Ariel said those things were savages. No, this was someone different. Someone who's giving her orders. Someone who's comin' to that warehouse," Sam explain.
Dean stops and glances at some files near the table. He comes sit down by me and begins looking through the papers.
"Holy crap," he tells us.
"What," We ask him. He gives us an annoyed look before going back to the paperwork.
"What I was gonna tell you earlier—I pulled a favor with my –friend, Amy, over at the police department. The complete records of the two victims—we missed something the first time," he tells us looking over at me.
"What," Sam says coming over to us to look at the records.
"The first victim, the old man—he spent his whole life in Chicago, but he wasn't born here. Look where he was born," he tells us pointing to the paper.
"Lawrence, Kansas," Sam and I say together again.
"Mmhmm," He picks up the second file, "Meredith, second victim—turns out she was adopted. And guess where she's from. Same place".
"Holy crap," we say again.
"Yeah," he tells us.
"I mean, it is where the demon killed Mom. That's where everything started. So, you think Meg's tied up with the demon," Sam asks.
"I think it's a definite possibility," Dean tells him back.
"But I don't understand. What's the significance of Lawrence? And how do these Daeva things fit in," I ask him.
"Beats me. But I say we trash that black altar, grab Meg, and have ourselves a friendly little interrogation," Dean tells us.
"No, we can't. We shouldn't tip her off. We've gotta stake out that warehouse. We've gotta see who, or what, is showin' up to meet her," Sam tells him trying to be the voice of reason.
"I'll tell you one thing. I don't think we should do this alone," he tells us.
"Your right, I'm going to try dad. Maybe he will answer me," I tell him knowing that we are way over our head on this case. Sam and Dean start packing up the bags for our trip. I call Dad and surprise he doesn't answer. Guess I'm leaving a message.
"Dad, It's me Ariel. We think we've got a serious lead on the thing that killed Mom. So, uh, this warehouse—it's 1435 West Erie. Dad, if you get this, get to Chicago as soon as you can, please," I hang up the phone.
SAM: Voicemail?
"Yeah," I tell him with a defeated look. I then gesture to the bags, "You planning for war".
"Kinda, I ransacked that trunk. Holy water, every weapon that I could think of, exorcism rituals from about a half dozen religions. I'm not sure what to expect, so I guess we should just expect everything," Sam explains Dean nods, and we begin loading their guns silently.
"Big night," Dean starts. Our nerves high. This could be the make it or break it night.
"Yeah. You nervous," Sam asks.
"No. Why, are you," he asks back.
"No. No way......God could you imagine if we actually found that damn thing? That demon," Sam starts.
"Let's not get ahead of ourselves, all right,"
"I know. I'm just sayin', what if we did? What if this whole thing was over tonight? Man, I'd sleep for a month. Go back to school—be a person again,"
"You wanna go back to school. What about you Ariel," Dean says looking over at me.
"Yeah, once we're done huntin' the thing," Sam states, and I nod in agreeance.
"Huh," knowing what is to following I put my head down and block out the conversation.
I notice Dean walk over to the dresser
"Dean what is it," I ask with a sincere voice. He keeps his silence for a while, then turns back to us.
"Why do you think I drag you everywhere? Huh? I mean, why do you think I came and got you at Stanford in the first place," he asks us.
"'Cause Dad was in trouble. 'Cause you wanted to find the thing that killed Mom," Sam states.
"Yes, that, but it's more than that," he returns to the dresser and is silent again, then once more turns to us, "Ya'll, me, and Dad—I mean, I want us....I want us to be together again. I want us to be a family again".
"Dean, we are a family. We'd do anything for you. But things will never be the way they were before," I explain noticing my oldest brothers heartbroken look.
"Could be," Dean says sadly. I walk over to him and wrap my arms around him, breathing in his scent. His arms wrap around me hugging me back and placing his chin on my head. My heartbreaking for him, for this broken family. Wishing that there was a way I could finish my degree and still be with my older brothers.
"I don't want them to be. I'm not gonna live this life forever. Dean, when this is all over, you're gonna have to let me go my own way, Ariel you with me," He tells dean looking over at us. I shake my head not knowing how to answer. My two brothers share a look. Before Sam walks over to hug us making an Ariel sandwich.
After our love fest, we head to the warehouse. On the way there I pray that somehow our dad gets there and helps us finish this hunt. When we get there we climb the elevator gate and reach the top room. We see Meg standing at the altar, speaking in an ancient language. Quietly, we squeeze through the space between the gate and the wall. We draw their guns and move to the other side of the room, hiding behind some crates.
"Come on you three," we hear her causing us to look at each other, stunned, "Hiding's a little bit childish, don't you think".
"Well, that didn't work out like I planned," he tells us.
"Why don't you come out," she tells us causing us to come out from behind the crates, "Sam, I have to say, this puts a real crimp in our relationship".
"Yeah, tell me about it," he tells her back.
"So, where's your little Daeva friend," Dean says in a smartalic manner.
"Around. You know, that shotgun's not gonna do much good," she tells us.
"Oh, don't worry, sweetheart. The shotgun's not for the demon,"
"So, who is it, Meg? Who's coming? Who are you waiting for," Sam asks.
"You," she tells us.
The shadow demon begins to form on the wall. It knocks Sam to the ground, throws Dean into the crates, and picks me up by my throat before throwing me across the room knocking me out.
~Sam's POV~
When I come to Dean and I are tied to two separate posts.
"Hey, Sam? Don't take this the wrong way, but your girlfriend...is a bitch," he says looking over to me.
"Where is Ariel," I ask looking over to him. My face was burning on the side.
"Behind you still out cold though,"
"This, the whole thing, was a trap. Running into you at the bar, following you here, hearin' what you had to say. It was all a set-up, wasn't it?," I asks Meg causing her to laugh. "And that the victims were from Lawrence"
"It doesn't mean anything. It was just to draw you in, that's all," she explains
"You killed those two people for nothin'," I ask getting angry.
"Baby, I've killed a lot more for a lot less,"
"You trapped us. Good for you. It's Miller time," Dean tells her, "But why don't you kill us already".
"Not very quick on the uptake, are we," she explains before leaning closer to Dean, "This trap isn't for you".
Dean is puzzled. I think for a second, realizing something.
"Dad. It's a trap for Dad," I hear from behind me. Dean looks at Meg, who smiles at him.
"Oh, sweetheart—you're dumber than you look. 'Cause even if Dad was in town, which he is not, he wouldn't walk into something like this. He's too good," he tells her.
"He is pretty good. I'll give you that," She walks over to Dean and sits down, straddling his legs, "But you see, he has one weakness. Well three, actually. He lets his guard down around his children, lets his emotions cloud his judgment. I happen to know he is in town. And he'll come and try to save you. And then the Daevas will kill everybody—nice and slow and messy".
"Well, I've got news for ya. It's gonna take a lot more than some....shadow to kill him," I hear Ariel explain to Meg.
"Oh, the Daevas are in the room here—they're invisible. Their shadows are just the only part you can see," she explains.
"Why you doin' this, Meg? What kind of deal you got worked out here, huh? And with who," I question.
"I'm doing this for the same reasons you do what you do—loyalty. Love. Like the love you had for Mommy—and Jess," Meg explains with sickly smirk.
"Go to hell," I growl at her.
"Baby, I'm already there," She smiles and slides over to me, "Come on, Sam. There's no need to be nasty".
She leans in to whisper in my ear, "I think we both know how you really feel about me. You know, I saw you watching me—changing in my apartment. Turned you on, didn't it".
"Get a room, you two," Dean yells out.
"I didn't mind. I liked that you were watching me. Come on, Sammy. You and I can still have a little dirty fun," she tells me as she begins kissing my neck.
"You wanna have fun? Go ahead then. I'm a little tied up right now," I tell her. She smiles and continues to kiss me. A noise on Dean's side of the room makes her stop. She gets up and walks behind Dean's post. She sees he has a knife in his hand. She takes it away and tosses it into a corner. Meg swings around to the other side of the post, and smiles at Dean, who chuckles guiltily. She slides back over to me.
"Now, were you just trying to distract me while your brother cuts free," she asks me.
"No. No. That's because I have a knife of my own," I tell her. She looks confused. I break Ariel and myself free from our ropes and grab Meg's shoulder while Ariel goes to the alter to destroy it. As Ariel grabs the alter Meg falls to the floor while I groan in pain.
Suddenly, the shadow demon appears and grabs Meg. She is dragged across the floor and crashes through the window, falling down to the street below. I grab my knife and cut Dean free from his ropes. Then we all walk over to the window and see Meg sprawled on the sidewalk, dead.
"So, I guess the Daevas didn't like being bossed around," I say.
"Yeah, I guess not. Hey, Sam," Ariel tells me back with a slight chuckle.
"Hm," I respond.
"Next time you wanna get laid, find a girl that's not so buckets-o'-crazy, huh," Dean tells me with a smile and walks away.
~Ariel's POV ~
Back at the motel.
We are walking back to our room with our bags in hand.
"Why didn't we just leave that stuff in the car," Dean asks.
"I said it before, and I'll say it again—better safe than sorry," Sam tells him
Dean unlocks the door and we enter the room. We see the outline of a man standing by the window.
"Hey," Dean yells as Sam turns on the light. The man turns around. It is Dad. The three of us are stunned, "Dad"
"Hey, boys. Ariel," Dad and Dean walk towards each other and share a long, emotional hug. Sam and I watch sadly. Dad and Dean pull apart a few seconds later, "Hi, Ariel"
"Hey Daddy," I tell him running up to him, tears streaming down my face, and embracing him scared that if I let go he will disappear. He hugs me back and I can feel the same feeling returned.
"Hey, Dad," Sam says softly. Dad let's go of me and walks over to Sam. They do not hug but look at each other. Sam places the bag full of weapons on the floor.
"Dad, it was a trap. We didn't know, I'm sorry," Dean tells dad.
"It's all right. I thought it might've been," he tells us.
"Were you there," I ask dad.
"Yeah, I got there just in time to see the girl take the swan dive. She was the bad guy, right," he asks.
"Yes, sir," We all respond at the same time.
"Good. Well, it doesn't surprise me. It's tried to stop me before," he tells us.
"The demon has," Sam asks.
"It knows I'm close. It knows I'm gonna kill it. Not just exorcise it or send it back to hell—actually kill it," Dad tells us.
"How," Dean questions. Dad smiles.
"I'm workin' on that,"
"Let us come with you. We'll help," Sam tells dad. Part of me wants dad to agree and let us come with like old times. Dean gives us a warning look.
"No, Sam. Not yet. Just try to understand. This demon is a scary son of a bitch. I don't want you caught in a crossfire. I don't want you hurt," he tells us.
"Dad, you don't have to worry about us," I tell him with a look a heartbreak.
"Of course, I do. I'm your father," He pauses, "Listen, Princess, Sammy, last time we were together, we had one hell of a fight.
"Yes, sir," We respond back together.
"It's good to see you both again. It's been a long time," he tells us.
"Too long," Sam tells dad before an embrace, crying. A minute later, they pull apart. The three of them look around tearfully.
Suddenly, the shadow demon attacks Dad, and he is thrown into a set of cabinets and falls to the ground. Sam also falls.
"No!" Dean yells out while being thrown to the floor. I attempt to use my power and light my hand up to throw a spark over to the shadow only to be picked up again and tossed into Dean knocking him back down.
We continue getting beat up. The men groan, while I scream in pain as we are flung around the room. Fresh scratches appear on our faces. The demon flings Sam to the bag of weapons on the floor. He removes a flare from the bag.
"Shut your eyes! These things are shadow demons, so let's light 'em up," Sam yells out lighting the flare, and the room is instantly filled with smoke and a brilliant white light. The shadow demon vanishes. The three of them try to feel their way around the room, coughing and sputtering.
"Dad," Dean calls out while Sam yells out my name. I'm leaning against the window unit. My throat burning and limbs bruised up.
"Over here," dad yells out. Dean and Dad get out of the room with Sam and following them carrying the bag of weapons. When we get outside to the care Sam tosses the bag into the trunk and helps me to keep standing near the car.
"All right, come on. We don't have much time. As soon as the flare's out, they'll be back," Sam explains.
"Wait, wait, wait! Sam, wait. Dad, you can't come with us," he tells Sam, "Ariel get in the car you look like you are about to fall out".
I follow instructions and lay back into the back seat. Leaving the door open so I can hear what is doing on.
"What? What are you talkin' about," Sam asks.
"You guys—you're beat to hell," Dad tells us.
"We'll be all right," Dean tells dad.
"Dean, we should stick together. We'll go after those demons," Sam is cut off by Dean.
"Sam! Listen to me! We almost got Dad killed in there. Don't you understand? They're not gonna stop. They're gonna try again. They're gonna use us to get to him. I mean, Meg was right. Dad's vulnerable when he's with us. He—he's stronger without us around".
"Dad—no.....After everything-- after all the time we spent lookin' for you—please. I gotta be a part of this fight,"
"Sammy, this fight is just starting. And we are all gonna have a part to play. For now, you've got to trust me, son," He tells Sam. Sam shakes his head no, "Okay, you've gotta let me go. You boys take care of your sister and be careful, boys".
He gets in his truck and drives away.
"Come on," Dean tells Sam getting into the car before driving off to our next case.
"Ariel, you get some sleep. Sam you're on concussion patrol. We will need her to help stitch us up later," Dean tells us. I smile and very quickly go to sleep. During my dream I meet a man, with Crystal blue eyes and messy brown hair. He tells me that I need to start being more careful as he hugs me and kisses my forehead. Before I can see more of him I'm woken up by Sam. Well guess dream time is over.
Authors note: gave you all a small taste of whats to come. Cant wait to get him in this story and see the work of god.
