It Could Be a Trap
An hour after Dean gets back he wakes me up. Dad and Sam come back as well. Sam sits at the table rubbing his temple as Dean joins me on the bed, and dad sits on the other bed.
"A vision, the both of you," he asks.
"Yes. I saw the demon burning a woman on the ceiling," Sam tells dad.
"I saw it too, but I also then saw Sam talking to the woman. It could have been that Sam had the vision and since I'm his twin and we've always been able to mentally communicate, I probably saw it through his mind," I tell dad being the rational on.
"And you two think this is going to happen to this woman you met, Sam, because," dad ponders.
"Because these things happen exactly the way I see them," Sam explains.
"It started out as nightmares. Sam would wake up gasping while Ariel would be screaming or crying. Then it started happening while they were awake," Dean informs dad. He then gets up and grabs two cups a coffee. One for him and the other for me.
"Yeah. It's like the closer I get to anything to do with the demon the stronger the visions get," Sam starts while wincing from the pain, "Speaking of, why aren't you in pain".
"Trust me, when I got home she looked way worse than you. She was even hugging the toilet like it was her new best friend," Dean tells Sam.
"All right. When were ya'll going to tell me about this," dad questions annoyed that we kept something this big from him. We all look at each other, then at dad.
"We didn't know what it meant," dean starts, "We didn't know how to tell you. Besides Ariel was always different. We thought she was just gaining a new ability, plus Sam was always connected to her. Thought they were just being the normal twins that they always are".
"All right, something like this starts happening to your brother or sister, you pick up the phone and you call me," dad commands Dean. I could feel a fight starting to brew and my head at the moment was not in the mood to hurt worse. Dean places the cups back on the counter and strides toward dad. Guess I'm not getting coffee.
'Its not the time to be funny, Ariel. Also lower the thoughts my head still hurts as well'. Sam thought over to me. I look over at him with confusion. I usually have to focus on sharing my thoughts, now Sam can hear me without me trying.
'Ariel,' I wince. Okay sorry, I whisper in my mind.
Dean is now in front of dad.
"Call you? Are you kidding me? Dad I called you from Lawrence all right? Sam called you when I was dying. I mean, getting you on the phone? I got a better chance of winning the lottery," Dean yells at dad.
"You're right. Although I'm not too crazy about this new tone of yours, you're right. I'm sorry," Dad apologized with a sigh of defeat.
"Look guys, visions or no visions, fact is, we know the demon is coming tonight. And this family's gonna go through the same hell we went through," Sam explains.
"No they're not. No one is, ever again," Dad informs us confidence ringing through. Suddenly Sam's phone rings. Sam answers it and I took over at dad and Dean.
"Do either of you have some kind of anti-inflammatory medicine. Like Motrin, Advil, aspirin, or Tylenol," I ask before either could answer by twin states the one name I hoped to never hear again. 'Meg'. The room goes quiet as everyone turns to stare at Sam.
"Last time I saw you you fell out of a window," he says.
"Just your feelings? That was a seven-story drop"
"My Dad. I don't know where my Dad is" he states as he looks over at my dad. He hesitates then hands the phone to Dad.
"This is John," dad says into the phone. I look between Sam and Dean worry etched into my features.
"I'm here,"
"Caleb," dad questions concern dripping from his voice causing the three of us to instantly go on alert. Dad then walks out of the room to further talk with the woman. Before closing the door, he motions for us to stay in the room and start looking into what Caleb has been doing.
After a couple of minutes Dad walks back in phone in hand.
"So you think Meg is a demon," Sam questions.
"Either that, or she's possessed by one. It doesn't really matter," dad tells him,
"I always knew something was off with that woman. So, what do we do," I question dad.
"I'm going to Lincoln," Dad tells us.
"I'm sorry, I sure I miss heard you. I know you did not tell us that you were going to Lincoln and expect us all to stay here and leave you with out some form of back up," I respond back to Dad's suicide mission.
"It doesn't look like we have a choice. If I don't go, a lot of people die, our friends die," dad tells me hoping to put an end to the argument.
"Dad, the demon is coming tonight. For Monica and her family. That gun is all we got, you can't just hand it over," Sam asks.
"Who said anything about handing it over. Look, besides us and a couple of vampires no one has really seen the gun, no one knows what it looks like," dad tells Sam.
"So, what, you're just going to pick up a ringer at a pawn shop," Dean asks with sarcastic chuckle.
"Antique store," dad corrects.
"You're going to hand Meg a fake gun and hope she doesn't notice," I ask him, "Sounds like you are asking for trouble. Dad, I'm sure since she is a demon she knows the difference. I know we don't have much of a choice but dad think his through".
"Look, as long as it's close, she shouldn't be able to tell the difference. Plus, I'm going to have Ariel place a small amount of her magic in it. As long as I buy a few hours, the fake has served its purpose," Dad explains.
"You mean for us. You want us to stay here, and kill this demon by ourselves," Sam confirms with dad.
"No Sam. I want to stop losing people we love. I want you and Ariel to go to school, I want Dean to have a home. I want....I want Mary alive. It's just....I just want this to be over," dad explains to us, "Dean I want you to go get the gun with Ariel. Ariel, I know you haven't used your powers in a while but trust me on this, you are more powerful than you even realize. I also have a spell that will help with the transfer".
We all nod our head understanding the plan. Before going off on our routes.
We meet back up at a muddy back road on the outskirts of town. Dean and I walk out the car.
"You get it, and placed some magic in it" dad questions. 'ouch my pride'. 'Ariel come on soft voice.' 'sorry Sammy, I think we need to start this thinking thing and see how far we can be prior to not being able to hear each other.' 'how about after we finish this hunt' 'Deal'.
"You know this is a trap don't you. That's why Meg wants you to come alone," Dean states.
"I can handle her. I got a whole arsenal loaded. Holy water, Mandaic, amulets," dad tells him.
"Dad..," dean starts, "promise me something".
"What's that," he questions.
"This thing goes south just...get the hell out. Don't get yourself killed all right, you're no good to us dead," he tells our dad. Sam and I nod our heads in agreeance.
"Same goes for you, all of you....... All right listen to me. They made the bullets special for this colt. There's only four of them left. Without them this gun is useless. You make every shot count," dad tells us.
"Yes sir," we all respond in sync. 'sure we aren't triplets'. 'Yes Ariel, now pay attention'.
"Been waiting a long time for this fight. Now it's here I'm not gonna be in it. It's up to you three now. It's your fight, you finish this. You finish what I started. Understand," dad hands Dean the colt.
"We'll see you soon Dad," Sam tells him stretching his hand out to dad to shake his hand.
"I'll see you later," he tells us he walks up to me and pulls me in a hug before walking out into his truck and leaving. We all stare at the back of dad's truck as it drives out of sight.
"So off to Monica's we go," I state looking between my brothers.
We arrive at Monica's house and like a group of stalkers. We sit outside and watch them inside the house. Tossing ideas of how to get the family out of the house. Sam and Dean in the front with the colt between them. I'm sitting in the back seat.
"Maybe we could tell em it was a gas leak. Might get em out of the house for a few hours," Sam's idea sucked. 'I can still hear you'. Sorry.
"Yeah and how many times has that actually worked for us," dean states.
"Yeah.....We could always tell them the truth," Sam tells him.
Dean and I just look at Sam for a long moment, one eyebrow raised each.
"Nah!," we all say in sync.
"I know I know. I just...with what's coming for these folks..," Sam starts.
"Sam we only got one move and you know it, all right? We gotta wait for that demon to show itself and then we get it before it gets them," I explain from the back seat. We all look back at the house for a while.
"I wonder how Dad's doing," Sam asks.
"I'd feel a lot better if we were there backing him up," Dean states with me nodding my head in agreeance.
"I'd feel a lot better if he were here backing us up,"
"yeah, but you have us. We make the golden trio," I say with a smile.
We keep watching the house, waiting for everyone to go to sleep.
"This is weird," Sam states breaking the silence.
"What," Dean questions.
"After all of these years we're finally here. It doesn't seem real," Sam states. I somehow can't help but agree. 'this seems fishy'
"We just gotta keep our heads and do our job, like always," dean utters.
"Yeah but this isn't like always," I tell Dean.
"True," Dean agrees.
"Dean...ah...Ariel and I wanna thank you," Sam stutters out.
"For what," Dean questions with disbelief.
"For everything. You've always had our back you know? Even when we couldn't count on anyone we could always count on you. And ah...I don't know I just wanted to let you know, just in case," I tell Dean, speaking for both Sam and I.
"Whoa whoa whoa, are you kidding me," dean tells us, "Don't say just in case something happens to you two. I don't wanna hear that freaking speech man. Nobody's dying tonight. Not us, not that family, nobody. Except that demon. That evil son of a bitch ain't getting any older than tonight, you understand me," Dean tells us.
"Okay. Well since you two are up is it okay that I take a small nap," I ask the two-up front.
"That's fine, Ariel, get some sleep we will wake you up if something happens," Sam tells me tossing me a blanket.
I place my bag below my head and start to dose off.
~DREAM~
I'm sitting in a rocking chair outside of a wooden cabin in the middle of the woods. There is a chair to the left of me that is empty.
"Ariel," I hear a voice call out to me. A voice that I have become very familiar to hearing. A smile comes to my face as I look around for the person that owns it.
"Where are you," I yell out looking in every direction I can. Before finding the man, who comes to my dreams every so often, walking out of the forest. He continues to walk towards me, before sitting in the rocking chair beside me. I turn to face him, wondering who this man was, and why do I feel safe with him around.
"Ariel, I'm worried that some thing bad will happen to you during this hunt. I need you to be extra careful," he tells me looking over me. His face stoic.
"Who are you," I question him, knowing that I will not get an answer.
"Why do you always ask," he questions me.
"Because, I would like to know. It would be nice to know who I have regular conversations with. Besides you know my name, it is only fair," I tell him.
"Humans are very complex creatures," he mumbles to himself.
"Yes, we are," I state with a chuckle.
"Castiel," he tells me.
"I'm sorry," I question not sure if I heard him correctly.
"My name. It is Castiel. Now Ariel, please be safe and cautious. I have a feeling that something bad will happen to you," he tells me.
"I will," I tell him hoping to place him at ease.
"I am unsure why I feel this need to keep you safe, it is as if my father has some sort of plan for you, but decided not to inform us about it," he tells me.
"It's okay Castiel, I'm sure one day everything will make sense," I tell him, "Dad's usually don't tell their children their plans. We just have to go with the flow and hope that we one day can understand it".
"Hmmm," he states looking down.
"So, are we ever going to meet in person," I ask him. He looks back up at me his crystal blue eyes meeting mine. My breath gets caught in my throat as I can almost feel his inner battle inside.
"I can only hope not," he tells me, "because if we do then something has gone wrong. Ariel, if you ever need me, or need help simply pray for me and I will come. However, you can only do it if you are in immediate danger. I will come as soon as I can, if permitted".
"Okay, well I hope that if we do meet it's not the end of the world or something. Do we have time for another question," I ask. My dreams with him normally don't last very long.
"I'm sorry, it will have to wait. You are needed back as am I. Remember Ariel if you need me just pray and I will be there. But above all else. Stay safe please," he tells me before getting up. Placing a kiss on my forehead causing me to wake up face to face with the two idjits I call my brothers.
