Following the Clues
Right as I had finished packing my front door opened. Meaning that my twin had agreed as he is the only one who had a key to my apartment. I grab my bag along with an aqua colored blanket, and walk to the living area chuckling to myself.
"You boys ready" I asking with a smirk on my face.
"Yeah, ready to go find dad, and come back home," Sam said with a look of annoyance on his face.
"Let me guess interview on Monday," I question.
"How'd you know"
"Oh, Sammy. We are twins, plus Jess let it slip the other night when she came over. Come on Dean lets pick this stuff in the car and go before Sam here has an aneurysm," I said with my duffle bag on my shoulder walking out of the apartment. Knowing Sam will probably grab something then lock up. I open the door to the back of Dean's precious baby, throwing the duffle bag in looking forwards to use it as a pillow and getting some much-needed rest. After I get situated in the back seat I'm finally joined in the car by my brothers.
"Arie, what are you doing," Dean asks looking back at me through the rearview mirror.
"Getting some sleep. Unlike someone I've been up for the last 26 hours, and when you got to the house I was actually going to shower and go to sleep," I state yawning, "Just wake me up when we stop and I'll buy our snacks".
"Okay, get some sleep sleeping beauty," Sam said putting an end to our antics.
We arrive in Jericho, California around 8 am, stopping finally at a gas station. I wake up to my brother parking the car, I look up front and reach into my bag grabbing out $30 and hand it to Dean.
"No need to be using a card that isn't ours," I said rubbing my eyes to get the sleep out of my eyes, "bring me back a coke, and a biscuit or something that is actually considered a breakfast food."
He nods and goes into the store coming back several moments later with a bag of what I hope is food. Upon him getting into the car he hands me a bottle of coke and plain biscuit, I quickly start eating the meal knowing that it may be while to I get my next meal.
"So, you and dad still running the credit cards scams," I heard Sammy say. Know what was to follow I quickly tune them out to avoid the headache I don't miss.
I start to tune in to the two when the car starts and we drive off with Dean blaring the music at an unnecessary level. We pass a sign stating Jericho 7 when Sam gets off the phone stating that no one that matched Dad's description in the morgue or hospital. It's a start. We pass by a bridge and notice a couple of police cars. Dean pulls over smiles and opens up the glove compartment pulling out two cards, one for him, the other for Sam. Dean looks back at me as if asking if I want to come with. I shake my head no wanting the alone time to better prepare for the trouble I could feel coming this way. The two get out of the car and I lay back down into the seat hiding myself and grab a book Vampire Kisses out of my bag. Yes, I know I hunt Vamps but come on even I need reading material and I have to say that so far, this book is much better than Twilight. After finishing a couple of chapters, the two boys return and then let me know what was going on and we decided that we were going to look for the newest victim's girlfriend, Amy.
We get into town and I have the boys drop me off on the side of the road so I can get to finding Amy, since I would be less threatening, while they go to the library to start researching on what could be going on.
I walk up to a young woman dressed in black from head to toe putting up missing flyers.
"Hi, Amy" I state walking up to the young girl. She looks at me confused. "I'm so sorry, I'm Ariel, Troy's mom is my aunt and she asked me to come with you to help look for him"
Another young woman comes up beside Amy placing a hand on her arm, "hey are you okay"?
"Yeah, I'm okay Rachel," Amy responds.
"Hey I know you might have been out here a while, would you both mind if I treat you to both to lunch and I could ask you a couple of questions, that is if you don't mind," I state to help the girls feel more at ease and might help them to open up more about what could be going on.
"Sure, thank you Ariel," Amy states with a small smile gracing her features.
~in the dinner~
"So, what happened prior to him going missing," I ask as we sit down in a booth.
"I was on the phone with Troy. He was driving home. He said he would call me right back, and...he never did," she states with sadness written all over her face.
"He didn't say anything strange, or out of the ordinary," I ask not wanting to push her too far she simply shakes her head no. While she was doing so I could not help but to notice the pentagram in a circle around her neck.
"I like your necklace," I tell her. She looks down and smiles.
"Troy gave it to me. Mostly to scare my parents" she states laughing, "with all that devil stuff".
I laugh a little and smile back at her and state "Actually, it means just the opposite. A pentagram is protection against evil. Really powerful. I mean, if you believe in that kind of thing".
She shakes her head in understanding.
"Amy, the way Troy disappeared, something's not right. So is there any kind of old wives' tale or story that would be connected to it," I ask her.
The two women look at each other.
"What is it" I ask.
"Well, it's just... I mean, with all these guys going missing, people talk. It's kind of this local legend. This one girl? She got murdered out on Centennial, like decades ago. Well, supposedly she's still out there," I nod at Rachel to continue, "She hitchhikes, and whoever picks her up? Well, they disappear forever".
"Wow that's quite a story, hey do you girls mind, I need to make a quick call to my aunt and let her know I found you two and I'm treating you two for lunch," I tell them.
"No sure that's fine," Amy states nodding her head.
I walk away from the table to call the Sammy knowing that if I call Dean the statement will fall to deaf ears.
"Hello," I hear my twin.
"Hey so I got something for you two there is a local legend There was a woman, who was murdered out on Centennial, like decades ago. Well, supposedly she's still out there. She hitchhikes, and whoever picks her up? Well, they disappear forever. Looks like you two are looking up about this vengeful spirit," I tell Sam knowing how much fun this was actually going to be.
"Thanks for the information. When you finish up over there want to meet us up at the library and help us figure out what our next step is," he tells me.
"Sure, I'm wrapping up over here. I'll be over there in about 20 minutes, see you soon Sammy boy," I say hanging up, and heading back over to the girls.
"Hey girls, I'm sorry to cut this short, but my dad and brother just got into town and I need to help them get into the hotel room we got. Here's $25.00 this should cover the meal," I say handing Amy the money before turning around and walking out the door.
~the library~
"Hey Deano, you two found anything," I ask my oldest brother. He looks at me and smirks before walking over to me and wrapping his left arm over my shoulder making me face him more. Mischief green eyes meeting annoyed hazel ones.
"Well my darling little sister, we have. In 1981, Constance Welch, a twenty-four-year-old mother of two recently deceased children, jumps off Sylvania Bridge, drowns in the river," he tells me.
"Well, I guess we are going back to the bridge tonight," I state looking over to my twin.
"Yep," Sam states with the same look of annoyance across his features. I push Dean off me.
"If it was a vengeful spirit why did dad need Dean's help. This seems kind of fishy to me," I speak into my twin's head not wanting Dean to hear me.
"I was thinking the same thing, but when I listened to the voicemail it seemed like more. Plus, dad is still missing," he responds.
"Hey wonder twins stop with the weird looks and silent conversations, and get your butts in the car," Dean says annoyed. Sam and I glance at each other again, before walking the car.
~night time at the Sylvania Bridge~
Dean, Sam, and myself walk along the bridge, only to stop to lean on the railing and look down at the river.
"So, this is where Constance took the swan dive," Dean say. I sigh in annoyance, annoyed that my brother has no respect for the dead.
"So, you think Dad would have been here," Sam asks looking over at Dean and me.
"Well, he's chasing the same story and we're chasing him. It would make sense that he was here," Dean replies before walking off leaving Sam and I to follow.
"Okay, so now what. Dad's not here. Do we keep digging around until we find him? Knowing dad that could take a while. Sam and I don't have the weeks that it would take to look for him if he isn't here," I tell dean stopping in the middle of the bridge.
"I know Monday. Right. The interview for Sam and work for you," Dean states with annoyance.
"Yeah," Sam and I state together.
"Yeah, I forgot. You're really serious about this, aren't you? Sam think you're just going to become some lawyer? Marry your girl? What about you Ariel, become a nurse and do what? Meet someone who will sweep you off your feet and treat you like the princess. You both of you know that isn't going to happen right, I mean come on does Jessica know the truth about you two? I mean, does she know about the things you've done," Dean states with some anger to his tone. Knowing that my twin is about to snap I stand between the two towering men hoping to keep the peace.
"No, and she's not ever going to know about us or our past," Sam tells Dean walking closer to our oldest brother and nearly walking into me.
"Well, that's healthy. You can pretend all you want, Sammy. But sooner or later you're going to have to face up to who you really are," Dean tells Sam walking away from our brother.
"And who's that," Sam asks.
"You're one of us," Dean says to us.
Sam hurries to get in front of our brother, completely bypassing me with ease. Never have I hated being 5'3" up until this moment.
"No. We are not like you. This is not going to be our life," Sam states speaking on behalf of the both of us.
"You have a responsibility to," Dean begins before I have enough and cut him off.
"To Dad? And his crusade? If it weren't for pictures Sam and I wouldn't even know what Mom looks like. And what difference would it make? Even if we do find the thing that killed her, Mom's gone. And she isn't coming back," I tell Dean walking up to him. He pushes me away in complete annoyance knowing that if I stay in his face he will take a swing and he will end up more injured than I after the fight.
"Don't talk about her like that," he tells me walking away. He sees Constance standing at the edge of the bridge., "Sam, Ariel".
We go to stand by him. Constance looks over at us, then steps forward off the edge. We run to the railing and look over.
"Where'd she go," Dean asks. He looks over at me, "you feel anything".
"Dean if I didn't the first time then I don't this time," I tell him while the Impala's engine starts, and its headlights come on. The three of us turn to look.
"Uh, Dean. Who's driving your car," I ask with a slight fear to wide eyes.
Not helping to ease my dear Dean pulls the keys out of his pocket and jingles them. I glance at them. The car jerks into motion, heading straight for us. We turn and break out into a run. The car starts moving faster than we are; when it gets too close, we dive over the railing. The car comes to a halt.
Sam and I caught ourselves on the edge of the bridge and is hang on. He pulls himself up onto the bridge before pulling me up as well. We look around noticing that our oldest brother is not around.
"Dean? Dean," we shout looking all around.
"What," we hear below us.
"Hey! Are you all right," Sam asks as we walk over to the side of the bridge. Dean holds up one hand in an A-OK sign.
"I'm super," he states with complete sarcasm within his voice.
We laugh, relieved, and scoot away from the edge.
Dean meets us at the car and he start to look within the hood of the care before he shuts the it and leans on it.
"The car okay," I ask.
"Yeah, whatever she did to it, seems all right now. That Constance chick, what a bitch," he says yelling out into the air.
"Well, she doesn't want us digging around, that's for sure. So, where's the job go from here, genius," Sam explains. Sam and I join on dean on the hood. Me being the closer to him get a HUGE whiff of him.
"Damn, you smell like a toilet," I tell him with a look of disgust on my face, causing him to look down in more annoyance.
Authors note:
I will be fast forwarding to where we get to their dad, after we get Sammy back home to see what happens to his wonderful peaceful life. Please stay tuned, I will try to get this updated sooner.
