Fighting With Our Last Breaths Part 2
'We will live through this, right' I question over into Sam. I stare at him through the rear view mirror.
'We will or we go down fighting with our last breaths' Sam tells me, his eyes softening at the thought of dying or losing me in the process.
We came to a stop at the start of the cemetery gate, each of us grabbing a gun and scattering throughout the cemetery while Dean moved the car down the road some ways prior to joining us. Dean hides behind a big tombstone. I hide in a mausoleum near the opening of the cemetery, Sam is hiding in plain sight for when Jake enters. Ellen and Bobby are in the back. All of us equipped with real bullets and salt rounds. All of us on edge and ready for the worst. The gate opens signaling that we are no longer the only ones in there.
"Howdy, Jake," I heard Sam call out. 'Stay hidden Ariel'.
"Wait... you were dead. I killed you," Jake called out.
"Yeah? Well next time, finish the job," Sam replies.
'Uh, no........ He shouldn't Sam' I thought.
'Quiet' he replies back.
"I did! I cut clean through your spinal cord, man," I hear Jake say before pausing, "You can't be alive. You can't be".
"Okay, just take it real easy there, son," Bobby says.
"And if I don't," Jake questions.
"Wait and see," Sam states.
"What, you a tough guy all of a sudden? What are you gonna do— kill me," Jake says with a small chuckle towards the end.
"It's a thought," Sam requips.
"You had your chance. You couldn't," Jake states.
"I won't make that mistake twice," Sam says. Jake starts laughing maniacally.
"What are you smiling at, you little bitch," Dean questions.
"Hey Lady, do me a favor. Put that gun to your head," Jake says.
'Now Ariel,' Sam states. As I walk out of my hiding spot, slowly making sure Jake does not see me until I want him to. I see Ellen shakily points her gun at her temple.
"See that Ava girl was right. Once you give in to it, there's all sorts of new Jedi mind tricks you can learn," Jake states.
"Let her go," Sam yells.
"Shoot him," Ellen says her voice shaking,
"You'll be mopping up skull before you get a shot off," he pauses, "Everybody, put your guns down. Except you, sweetheart".
Everyone but I drop their guns.
"Okay. Thank you," Jake says with a smirk.
Jake turns around and pulls the Colt out of his pocket. I make myself known as he begins to insert the Colt into the Crypt.
"Freeze Jake," I say holding my hand out to stop his movements, keeping my finger on the trigger with my right hand.
Dean and Bobby grab Ellen before she can shoot herself just as Sam takes the moment to shoot Jake four times in the back before he can turn around and kill me. Jake falls onto the ground, and Sam walks to stand over him.
"Please... don't. Please," Jake says gasping for air, before Sam shoots Jake three more times in his chest. Blood splattering on to Sam's face. I stay where I am frozen in disbelief. Disbelief that my soft hearted twin would do something like this. Ellen and Bobby walk past Sam and I. Dean walks over to take a look at Jake before looking over towards me. After a moment Sam wipes the blood from his face. Sam then looks over at me, his eyes meeting mine before he looks down and starts walking towards Ellen and Bobby. Dean comes over and grabs my hand pulling me towards the Crypt.
All we could do is stare at it as two separate engravings on the crypt spin in different directions, then stop.
"Oh, no," Bobby says.
"Bobby, what is it," Ellen questioned.
"It's hell," he tells her solemnly. Dean lets go of my hand and runs to pull the Colt from the Crypt.
"Take cover— now," Bobby yells out. Sam grabs my hand and pulls me with him behind a large tomb stone. Suddenly the Crypt doors burst open, and a large black mass erupts from it shooting past us in all directions.
"What the hell just happened," Dean yells out.
"That's a devil's gate. A damn door to hell," Ellen yells out.
We watch as the railway iron is being bent in two and a pair of legs crossing, while a black demon smoke trail goes out the other way.
"Come on! We gotta shut that gate," Ellen yells. I look foward and see Dean checking the gun for bullets.
"If the demon gave this to Jake... then maybe...," Dean starts. Suddenly thunder crashes and the Yellow Eyed Demon appears behind Dean. He flings the Colt out of Dean's hand and into his own. Dean looks astonished. Sam and I get up to help Ellen and Bobby close the door.
"Boys shouldn't play with Daddy's guns," the demon calls out. I look back and see him holding Dean up in the air.
"Dean," I yell out. I go to run over to help him, but as I move to go and help him the doors begin to open more. I look between the two knowing that if I let go more demons will get through. The yellow eyed demon then throws Dean in the air and Dean hits his head on a tombstone and lies there, stunned.
"Dean," Sam and I yelled looking at our older brother and without thinking any more let go of the door and ran to Dean.
"I'll get to you in a minute, champ. But I'm proud of you— knew you had it in you," the yellowed eyed demon says as Sam is thrown back into a tree. I stop my movements and look back at him.
"Sam," I yell out.
"Now hold on Princess I'm getting to you next so lets have you sit in a room for now. I don't want you getting any ideas while sitting out here," the demon tells me before throwing me back into an open mausoleum. As I hit the back wall I hear my brother's calling my name before the doors shut leaving me locked in. All I can do now is hear voices, but I need to get out of here. I need to help my family.
"So, Dean... I gotta thank you. You see, demons can't resurrect people, unless a deal is made. I know, red tape— it'll make you nuts. But thanks to you, Sammy's back in rotation, and you back your little mermaid of a sister too, as an add on package deal," I hear the demon laughing as he speaks, "Now, I wasn't counting on that, but I'm glad. I liked him better than Jake, anyhow. Tell me— have you ever heard the expression, "If a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is?"
"You call that deal good," I hear Dean call out.
"Well, it's a better shake than your dad ever got. And you never wondered why? I'm surprised at you. I mean... ,You saw what your brother just did to Jake, right? That was pretty cold, wasn't it," the demon chuckled. I can't stay here anymore. I need to get out.
'Try the window on top of the door' a voice called out.
"But I can't reach that," I say out loud confused because I heard a voice other than Sam's or mine in my head.
'Levitate yourself up there and drop through the window. You will make the landing don't worry' the voice called out again.
I focused on what it had told me to do and suddenly I was up at the window opening it and dropping down without injury and no one noticed me on the ground. I slowly made my way over to Sam to see about getting him down from his momentary prison.
"How certain are you that what you brought back, is 100%, pure, Sam? What about Ariel? She's been pretty quiet, which I believe she's always pretty, but not always quiet. Ever wondered why you got her back with Sam? I would have, especially with knowing how special they are".
The demon laughs again.
"You of all people should know, that's what's dead, should stay dead. Anyway... thanks a bunch. I knew I kept you alive for some reason. Until now, anyway. I couldn't have done it without your pathetic, self-loathing, self-destructive desire to sacrifice yourself for your family," the demon continues. I watch in horror as the demon cocks the Colt at Dean. Suddenly the demon is grabbed from behind from our father. The body that the demon was possessing falls to the ground gun still in hand. While dad and the cloud of smoke also known as the Demon's true form battle it out. This continues until dad is thrown back on the ground and the demon re enters his previous body. This time Dean is ready for him and shoots him with the Colt in her heart. The demon and its body fall on to the ground, dead.
Bobby and Ellen finally close the gate doors and turn to see us and dad. Dean stands up and faces our dad. Dad walks forward, and smiles at Dean, putting his hand on Dean's shoulder. Both are teary, Sam and I approach; Dean and dad both look at Sam, and dad and Sam nod at each other. Dad walks over to me and wraps me in a tight hug, before he steps back and disappears into white light.
Dean, Sam, and I look at each other. Then we walk over to the demon's smoking body, astonished.
"Well, check that off the to-do list," Dean says with a slight chuckle.
"You did it," Sam says.
"I didn't do it alone," Dean says looking around.
"Do you think Dad really... do you think he really climbed outta hell," Sam questions.
"The door was open. If anyone's stubborn enough to do it... it would be him," Dean states.
"Where do you think he is now," I ask.
"I don't know," Dean states.
"I kind of can't believe it, Dean. I mean... our whole lives, everything... has been prepping for this, and now I... ," Sam chuckles, "I kind of don't know what to say.
"I do," Dean says before leaning closer to the body, "that was for our mom... you son of a bitch".
Sam, Dean, and I walk towards the Impala. Dean opens the door ready to get in.
"You know, when Jake saw me... it was like he saw a ghost," Sam says.
Dean, stopping, shuts the door to stand next to Sam and I, we hear him scoffing at the idea.
"I mean, hell, you heard him, Dean. He said he killed me. And I know Ariel was dead with the ax buried in her chest," Sam questions further.
"Glad he was wrong," Dean says.
"I don't think he was, Dean," Sam pauses, "What happened? After I was stabbed"?
"I already told you," Dean says trying to deflect.
"Not everything," I say adding in.
"Sam, we just killed the demon. Can we celebrate for a minute," Dean says.
"It's been a minute now it's time for some answers," I replied, my face looking annoyed.
"Did I die, I know that Ariel was basically dead when I left her in that cabin," Sam questions.
"Oh, come on," Dean says, scoffing at the idea.
"Did you sell your soul for Ariel and me, like Dad did for you," Sam questions.
"Oh, come on! No," Dean yells.
"Tell me the truth," Sam questions as Dean sniffles, "Dean, tell me the truth".
"Sam...," Dean says letting a chuckle out.
"Don't Sam him. Tell us the truth," I tell Dean.
"How long do you get," Sam asks, his voice breaking. Tears are forming in my eyes.
"One year. I got one year," Dean confirms.
"You shouldn't've done that. How could you do that," I questioned annoyed with him. This is the second time someone saved me.
"Don't get mad at me. Don't you do that. I had to. I had to look out for you. That's my job," Dean yells.
"And what do you think my job is? Or Ariels," Sam questions.
"What," Dean questions.
"You've saved Ariel and my life over and over. I mean, you sacrifice everything for us. Don't you think we'd do the same for you? You're our big brother. There's nothing we wouldn't do for you. And we don't care what it takes, we're gonna get you out of this. Guess we gotta save your ass for a change. Or well me. Ariel has saved both of our asses more times than we can count," Sam says placing his hand on Dean's shoulder.
"Yeah. I am very aware of the last part," Dean agrees, placing his hand on my head and giving it a rub, messing up my hair. I roll my eyes and chuckle at his antics.
"Well... Yellow-Eyed Demon might be dead. But a lot more got through that gate," Ellen says walking over to us.
"How many you think," Dean questions.
"Hundred. Maybe two hundred. It's an army. He's unleashed an army," I state with a smile.
"Hope to hell you all are ready. 'Cause the war has just begun," Bobby tells us.
"Well, then ...," Dean says with a smile.
The scene cuts to Sam and Dean opening the Impala's trunk as I sit against the side of the car. Dean throws the Colt inside and closes it.
"We got work to do," Dean says getting into the Impala and getting ready for the long ride ahead of us.
