End of Conversation.....Or so We hoped
It's been a rough couple of days on the road since meeting the other twins. We were currently on the way to the Harvell's Road house to see Jo, Ash, and Ellen. More like probably getting yelled at for being idjits. Dean parks the car in front of the road house, and we all pile out.
Never had I been so happy to be out of the cramped car.
"We need something new," I tell the boys. Needing a new scene to enjoy.
"Los Angeles, California," Dean replies not missing a beat.
"What's in L.A.," Sam asks, hoping for a real case somewhere sunny.
"Young girl's been kidnapped by an evil cult," Dean replies. I feel the very deep and sudden urge to do two things, roll my eyes and slap the back of my idjit brother's head.
"Yeah? Girl got a name," Sam questions.
"Katie Holmes," Dean replies with a chuckle.
Sam lets out a deep laugh before responding, "That's funny. And for you, so bitchy".
Suddenly there is a sound of glass breaking and voices shouting from inside the road house. Dean looks back at us and smiles.
"Of course, on the other hand — catfight," he states. I roll my eyes and push past him and go into the road house not knowing what exactly is going on but overall knowing this can't end well.
My brothers join me shortly after very cautiously, and above I could hear and see Ellen and Jo in their screaming match.
"I am your mother, I don't have to be reasonable," Ellen yells at Jo
"You can't keep me here," Jo yells back.
"Oh, don't you bet on that, sweetie," her mother yells back.
"What are you going to do, are you going to chain me up in the basement," Jo bites back.
"You know what, you've had worse ideas than that recently. Hey, you don't wanna stay, don't stay. Go back to school," Ellen advices.
"I didn't belong there! I was a freak with a knife collection," Jo tells Ellen not giving in to her wishes.
"Yeah, and getting yourself killed on some dusty back road, that's where you belong," Ellen yells back before turning around and seeing us. My expression could be compared to a deer in a headlights.
"Guys, bad time," she tells us.
"Yes, ma'am," Sam states, I could hear a slight quiver in his voice as he spoke.
"Yeah, we rarely drink before ten anyway," Dean jokes.
"Wait. I wanna know what they think about this," Jo tells her mom.
"Jo, I wouldn't open that can of worms with these two," I attempt to warn her before the door behinds us chimes.
Suddenly a mom, a dad, and two kids under three, all wearing bright yellow t-shirts that read "Nebraska is for Lovers" enter.
"I don't care what they think. Well maybe Ariel, but the boys are out," Ellen tells Jo.
"Are you guys open," the man behinds us asks.
"No," "Yes," Jo and Ellen chime in at the same time.
"We'll just... check out the Arby's down the road," The man replies before ushering everyone out. The phone rings. Jo glares at it, then at Ellen, who stalks over to answer it.
"Harvelle's. Yeah, Preacher," Ellen answers.
"Three weeks ago a young girls disappears from a Philadelphia apartment," Jo states as she shoves a file folder at Dean, "Take it, it won't bite".
"No, but your mom might, Dean jokes back. Jo pinches her lips, still holding out the folder. He takes it reluctantly.
"And this girl wasn't the first. Over the past eighty years six women have vanished. All from the same building, all young blondes. Only happens every decade or two so cops never eyeball the pattern. So we're either dealing with one very old serial killer, or —," Jo starts to explain.
"Who put this together? Ash," I question her. Not saying the girl couldn't do it, just hoping that this wasn't her latest end game.
"I did it myself," she tells Dean. Who in turn looks impressed. I start to rub my head knowing very well this was going to blow up in our faces.
"I gotta admit. We hit the road for a lot less," Sam states looking over at us.
"Good. You like the case so much, you take it," Ellen says walking over to us.
"Mom," Jo yells out annoyed at her mother's antics.
"Joanna Beth, this family has lost enough. And I won't lose you too. I just won't," Ellen states putting an end to the conversation and the nail in the coffin for Jo joining a hunt.
We quickly pile into the car and make out way down to Philadelphia, Penn. Dean parks the Impala in front of the apartment building.
We enter the building and being the search for the ghost, in the last apartment it was to be in.
"I feel kind of bad, snaking Jo's case," Sam tells us.
"You'd feel even worse after Ellen placed a bullet in your head for letting Jo join," I respond back to my twin.
"Ariel's right. Yeah, maybe she put together a good file. But could you see her out here working one of these things? I don't think so," Dean tells us as we pull out EMF readers.
"You getting anything," I question.
"No, not yet," Sam tells me.
"What's that" I hear Sam say behind me.
"What," Dean and I question looking over where Sam is. There are goo like material dripping down the wall.
"Is that ectoplasm," I question.
Both boys look at me like I was crazy. Before they both touch the goo.
"Well Ariel, that's two for two. That's ectoplasm. Well, Sam, Ariel, I think I know what we're dealing with here. It's the Stay-Puff Marshmallow Man," Dean tells us.
Sam and I roll our eyes.
"Dean, I've only seen this stuff, like, twice. I mean, to make this stuff you have to be one majorly pissed off spirit," Sam explains.
"Wow, thankfully I'm not its type, and no I am not dying my strawberry locks," I tell them looking over their faces knowing that was about to be the plan.
"All right, let's find this badass before he snags any more girls," Dean tells us, "Though he may make an exception for a strawberry blonde".
We exit the apartment and walk down the hallway; hearing voices, they hide around a corner. I frowns as I realizes the woman's voice belongs to Jo. I hate it when I'm right.
"It's so convenient," She states.
"Yeah, it's a great building, fixed it up real nice. All the apartments come furnished, too," the man with her states trying to get her interested in the apartment.
"It is so spacious. You know, my friend told me I absolutely have to come check it out, and I have to admit, she was right. You did a really good job with this place," she tells him you could feel the smile on her voice.
We step out, you could feel the upset feeling in Dean.
"What the hell are you doing here," Dean questions her.
"There you are, honey" Jo states walking over to him and placing her arms around his waist.
"This is my boyfriend Dean, his buddy Sam, with his girlfriend Ariel," she tells him with a smile. I can promise you she's getting a yell down later.
"Good to meetcha. Quite a gal you've got here," the landlord tells him.
Dean smacks her ass smiling down at her.
"Oh yeah, she's a pistol," he agrees.
"So, did you already check out that apartment? The one for rent," she questions.
"Yeah. Yes. Loved it. Heh. Great flow," he agrees.
"How'd you get in," the man questions.
"It was open," I tell him smiling as well. Placing my arm around Sam's waist. 'Oh she is soooooo dead'
'Ariel, chill out'
'Sam she said we we're a couple. And she got here without Ellen's permission. You know she's gonna kill us if we lie about it'
'touche' I feel Sam tense up next to me.
"Well. Her loss, our gain! 'Cause if Dean-o loves it, it's good enough for me," She tells the landlord.
Dean smacks her butt again. Somewhat harder this time.
"Oh, sweetie," he tells her.
Jo pulls out a wad of cash, smiling.
"We'll take it," She tells the man handing him the money.
We walk into our new home for the next month.
"I'll flip you for the sofa," she tells Dean.
"Does your mother even know you're here," I question her knowing the answer.
"Told her I was going to Vegas," she replies.
"You think she's gonna buy that," Dean questions his eyes accusing her.
"I'm not an idiot. I got Ash to lay a credit card trail all the way to the casinos," she tells him.
"Seems to me you are otherwise, you shouldn't lie to your mom. Shouldn't be here either," I tell her.
"Why not you're here. We're the same age, and you go hunting all the time," she questions me.
"I'm here, because I've been in this life longer than I can remember. I wasn't always a hunter, I had dreams to be something else, Sam as well. This isn't a life you should want Jo, this isn't even a life. You live in the shadows with nothing. You should want more than this. Like a husband, and children. Living in a house you own, and have friends who have jobs or stay home and just enjoy the peaceful life they have. This isn't a life, it's a sacrifice, for everything just to one day die knowing that you barely made a difference in the world," I tell her hoping that I can better explain what she is giving up. She doesn't look convinced but I can see a sad look in both of my brothers' eyes knowing the truth cuts them as deep as the affect me. Feeling that this will cause a lash out Sam looks over at the young woman.
"Where'd you get all that money from, anyways," Sam questions her.
"Working, at the Roadhouse," she tells him casting a look over.
"Hunters don't tip that well," Dean tells her speaking the truth.
"Well, they aren't that good at poker, either," she tells him with a smirk.
Suddenly Dean's phone rings and he quickly answers it.
"Yeah" "Oh, hi Ellen," he states the name very loudly. Before holding the phone back, to Jo.
"I'm telling her," he tells her before they have a furious, muttered argument.
"I haven't seen her," he says back into the phone.
"Yeah, I'm sure," "Absolutely," Dean hangs up the phone; Jo grins cheerfully.
Later that evening Dean is pacing, Jo sitting next to me at the table with blueprints spread out. She's flipping a small knife around.
"This place was built in 1924. It was originally a warehouse, converted into apartments a few months ago," Jo explain.
"Yeah? What was here before 1924," Dean questions.
"Nothing. Empty field," she explain.
"So, most likely scenario, someone died bloody in the building, and now he's back and raising hell," Sam explains.
"I already checked. In the past eighty two years, zero violent deaths. Unless you count a janitor who slipped on a wet floor" Jo states still flipping the knife.
"Would you sit down, please," Jo says looking over at my eldest brother.
"So, have you checked police reports, county death records..," Dean questions sitting down.
"Obituaries, mortuary reports and seven other sources. I know what I'm doing," she states.
"I think the jury's still out on that one. Could you put the knife down," I tell her forcing the knife down to the counter her hand along with it.
"Okay! So, uh, it's something else, then. Maybe some kind of cursed object that brought a spirit with it," Sam attempts.
"Well, we've got to scan the whole building. Everywhere we can get to, right," Jo questions.
"Right. So. You and me, we'll take the top two floors, Sam and Ariel the bottom," Dean explains.
"I feel like I fell into the Scooby doo show. Fred and daphine and velma and shaggy, all we need is a dog," I laugh out.
"We'd move faster if we split up," Jo states hoping that's what I was saying.
"Oh, this isn't negotiable. Ariel, don't even try," Dean tells us warning Jo and I to be on our best behavior while on the this case.
