Letter #2: To My First College Friend
Stepping into the university, I knew I was a step closer in achieving my dreams. But the memorable beginning turned dark after realizing that college was so much harder than what I once thought it would be. College is a survival game where only the best and smartest students remain.
In high school, I knew I was smart. I knew I was great. But stepping into the university I was crushed to know that there are a ton of people who were far greater and smarter than I am. In university, I was just an average girl who only fit in the middle class of society.
Thankfully, I met you.
My first college friend who showed me that college is just another challenge before achieving that MD title we both desire. You gave me reasons to compete in the battle of survival and encouraged me to be at my very best. You told me things I never knew before and patiently taught me how to deal with them. You opened my mind to possibilities and opportunities beyond our limits. You made my college life a whole whirlwind of great adventures.
But that friendship was short-lived when you met her. The girl whom your heart desired came in between the friendship we've established.
Slowly, we've drifted apart.
The days spent talking every night and day were gone and replaced with your date nights with her. I tried to understand why you chose her over me and accepted that you were never coming back. That I lost the friend who held me through the ups and downs, college has brought upon us.
I was glad when you comforted and protected me from the beast I created within myself. I was happy to think that even when we were apart, you never forgot that you still have a friend in me.
But again, those moments were just a by-pass of time. A short moment given to remind me once again the memories we had before.
Years went by and I lost you entirely to her. Walking down the hallways became difficult knowing that there would be chances where I might get to see you walking alongside me yet I could never say a word.
But God is so great, that He has given us another chance to rekindle our friendship we've purposely ignored to prevent ourselves from hurting each other. A simple letter brought us back to how we used to be. A simple letter that answered all the unanswered questions we both had carried all through the years we've been apart. If only I knew, I would have written that letter years ago and saved us both from the heartaches. Yet again, everything must have been God's plan. Maybe we were meant to be apart for a short time to make us realize the friendship we both had lost.
And now as I watch you stand before a hundred people to take their hearts away with your music, I can't help but look back to all those days. I only see you as just another boy sitting next to a girl with smiles on both their faces.
I hope you know that I'll always have your back. Even when everything seems to fail and things just don't go as we planned it. Remember that first friend you met in college who intends to be your friend even when our years in the university end.
