FIVE

Pete woke up in an uncomfortable position. He tried to shift but Patrick's entire body was wrapped over his. He smiled. It didn't matter how uncomfortable he was right now. He wouldn't move for all the money in the world.

Things were okay now. They hadn't argued since he tried to sneak away with Brendon. It'd only been three days, but that was longer than they'd ever gone without arguing.

Pete turned his head so that his cheek was pressed against Patrick's. The direct skin to skin contact sent chills down his spin. Like it used to when they first met. Even the smell of Patrick was making him feel fuzzy. This love really felt new. They really were starting over.

He inhaled deeper. It probably sounded creepy, but he wanted to take in even more of his scent. When he inhaled, an odd smell filled his nose. Like... Like smoke.

"Patrick!"

"Hmm?" He hummed in response.

"You're awake?"

"Yeah."

"Do you smell smoke?"

"Yes."

"Get off of me. I need to see if something is burning." He tried to push him away but quickly realized he couldn't move his hands. His eyes darted towards them. He damn near cried when he saw they were tired to the side of the bed. "Why are my hands tied?!"

Patrick rolled off of him. "The same reason your feet are tied."

He looked down and his panic doubled. He tried to pull his feet free but the knots were too tight.

"Patrick, untie me!" He screamed. "Why am I tied up?"

"You tried to leave me again."

"What?" He continued trying to pull at the ropes. "I'm not leaving you! I told you that I wouldn't leave you. We're starting over!"

"No we're not." Patrick flipped onto his back to stare at the ceiling. "We both know we're just going to keep fighting. And you're going to keep trying to leave me. I may not be able to stop you next time."

"Patrick, please!" The smoke began thickening in the room filling Pete's mouth when he spoke. "Untie me. I think something is on fire!"

"The house is on fire." He spoke calmly.

"What?" He choked. "Why?"

"I told you that if you ever tried to fucking leave again, I would tie you to the bed and set this house on fire. And you tried to leave."

"Patrick! Fucking untie me right now!"

"You're never leaving me." His voice was void of all emotion. "That's a promise."

"I'm going to burn up!" He jerked his hands and feet but still made no progress. "You can't just leave me here!"

"I'm not leaving you." Patrick turned on his side. Wrapping one arm around Pete's middle. "We're in this together."

Pete kept fighting against the ropes. Squirming and screaming as the smoke took over the room. Stinging his eyes and burning his lungs. Patrick was completely unbothered. He laid there quietly, rubbing his fingers over Pete's stomach. Finally the smoke brought the flames into the bedroom. Sparking a fire even more dangerous than the figurative one of their relationship.
