Oliver 32

It had been a whole year since Oliver had broken up with his ex-boyfriend Arden since he helped Kara's band since he first met Cody. So much had changed in that year, from dealing with a relationship falling apart to meeting new friends, two new jobs, and an almost new relationship that got sidetracked by being kidnapped by a giant monster that wanted to devour the entire humanity.

Usually, the band Common Anomalies would perform in a pub or bar for New Year's Eve, but Rheanna had already booked a performance with her drag community, and Kal had a New Year's Eve party to perform in, too. Oliver and the rest of the original crew went to see Rheanna's performance and afterwards got thrashed drunk, with Oliver not remembering most of the night. Fortunately, he had heard that he had not done anything he would regret, as Oliver was more of a sleepy drunk. He had slept around at Kara's after they had gotten a chippy to combat their deadly hangovers. Once they had recovered, they watched more trash television curled up underneath a blanket together.

Kara was on her phone, her brow furrowed in contemplation. "Hey, what do you think?" she asked as she showed her phone, revealing that she had downloaded a dating app and was in the middle of creating an account. "I think it's time to get back into those horrible dating waters. It's been a year since Peggy; I think I'm ready or at least ready for something casual or just some dates."

Oliver helped Kara pick out some profile pictures and made jokes about what she wrote on her bio before they both went through and swiped through other profiles, telling her to write absolute filth with a straight face and a flat voice, causing Kara to break into laughter.

After a while, however, Oliver considered for a moment before getting his phone and downloading a dating app himself.

Kara glanced at him in surprise. "Ready to move on from... Arden," she said slowly, likely because she was going to say Cody's name instead.

"Like you said, it's been a year for both of us since our last relationship," answered Oliver. "We've worked on ourselves, and I think I'm ready too."

Kara looked like she was forcing a smile as she nodded and helped Oliver go through his backlog of pictures, which was small, only a mere handful that was just him and not a group photo. And then to write an honest bio of his personality and interests.

When it came to stating the app's intentions, Oliver put the option of a long-term relationship without hesitating.

"How are things... with Cody?" Kara asked hesitantly.

"We still talk every Saturday," replied Oliver. "But he told me the other week that he does not see himself returning this year, at least the first half."

"Ah, I see," said Kara quietly, likely not knowing what to say.

"And I told him I was considering returning to dating again," Oliver continued. "I miss being in a relationship, and I am at a good point in my career at the moment; I feel that I could possibly stay in that company and commit, and now I just want a partner to commit to and save for a house together... a life together." He swallowed as his throat became sore and dry. "And Cody gave my support. We only slept together once, but I had to tell him."

Kara nodded, her smile now seeming genuine.

They continued browsing through each other's apps, showing potential future dates and laughing at questionable ones that were undoubtedly red flags.
