LOVELESS

𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐍𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑 𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓 that you would fall out of love.

Juliet was the only girl you ever wanted, she was your soulmate, your everything. She was your best friend, the person who had dried your tears and seen every part of you, and loved you for those unspoken flaws. She would serenade you until you fell asleep, danced to slow songs with you in your small kitchen at three A.M., and always bought you flowers for every special occasion.

So you knew something was wrong when she didn't buy you a bouquet for your birthday. You knew something was wrong when she didn't sing you your favorite song. You knew something was wrong whenever she stopped drying your tears and said 'I love you' less. You knew something was wrong whenever she declined dancing with you, and instead went straight to bed.

One stormy night, after making love, you asked her if she was okay, or if how she was acting was your fault. The girl you thought was your everything shook her head. "Nothing is wrong, Y/N." Her hand stroked your hair. The action was meant to be loving, but it felt forced, robotic. "I'm fine."

The lie that left her lips made you cry yourself to sleep.

It wasn't long before she asked you to be more emotional. For you to do more because she felt like she needed to do less. So you did. You cried for her every night, begging her to love you more. She didn't.

You never thought that you would meet a heartless person in your life, nor that they would be the person you wanted to be with forever, but somehow, Juliet changed. She changed into a person that gave nothing but empty affections.

After one particularly heated argument, she packed her bag. She slammed doors, vowing to never see your face again.

You didn't want it to end that way. You wanted her and only her. You thought you could change her. "Why are you running away?" You remember asking her. She didn't answer.

You remember the hot tears that streamed down your face, the painful tugging of your heart being ripped into pieces as she stared at you with empty eyes. Your heart carried a burden that could never be dissipated.

She was cutting off your connection.

You questioned if it was your fault. Was her behavior was because of her father? Were you were meant to be a target? Juliet never answered any of those questions, and instead left them lingering in the air. The air that clung to long-forgotten memories of love and happiness.

"You might be a loveless person, but I still love you and you know it."

The words shouldn't have escaped. They were fragile, made of glass that shattered as your voice shook violently. The words made her give you one last look, and slam the door. She was finally free. Free of you. Free of all you had ever made.

"I love you," was the last thing she said.

But if this was what love was in her eyes, then you were just as loveless as she was.
