FRIENDS

The rain pelted your skin as you stormed down the sidewalk, away from the woman you thought had loved you. But, you were wrong.

You didn't have good luck when it came to relationships. You were always either lead on or ended up with a cheater. That all changed when you met Juliet.

She was kind, beautiful, and had an amazing singing voice. You fell for her, hard and fast. You thought that she felt the same way.

"Y/N!" The rain roars in your ears, soaking through your denim jacket and making it stick to your skin. You ignore her voice calling after you.

She begged you to go to a bar with her. You obliged, of course. Juliet was happy to see her friends, and you were happy to be able to be in an environment where you had a distraction from the thoughts of her that constantly clouded your mind. You were completely and utterly numb when she stepped up to you and wrapped her arms around your shoulders, swaying to the upbeat tempo of the hip-hop song that reverberated through the club.

"Dance with me," she said. Her sea-green eyes were wide, and the wicked smile on her lips was one you couldn't refuse.

So, you did just that. You both danced and danced until you thought that your legs were going to give out. And when the song changed to a slower one, she put her hands on your hips and gave you a look that made you melt. You remember her eyes being hooded, seductive. You remember the sudden feeling of her lips on yours when she kissed you. She tasted like vodka and cherries, the strangest combination that you couldn't get enough of.

When you both pulled apart, you could see her wide smile. She was happy. And you were too.

Your world came crumbling down when sometime later, she led you over to her group of friends. The girls all sat at a table, drinking and laughing amongst one another. When one of them, a girl with red and black hair, noticed you, she grinned. "So...are you and Y/N a thing, or...?"

When she trailed off, Juliet smiled and put her arms around your shoulders. You began to nod your head, but stopped the movement when she said: "Nah, we're just friends."

Those events are what led you to where you were now—in the rain and cold, shivering, and heartbroken.

"Y/N!" You hear Juliet call your name once again but you shake your head, allowing the tears to fall. They mixed with the rain that soaked you from head to toe and you stared off at the city beyond you. The twinkling stars above almost seemed to mock you as they formed constellations with their universal lovers.

Her footsteps grow closer and you finally decide to turn and face her. Her blonde bangs stuck to her forehead, and her short hair framed her face in wet strands. She hadn't even bothered to put on her leather jacket because her red satin dress was water-logged, clinging to her skin.

"I'm sorry," she began. You could see her smeared makeup, but you didn't even want to believe that she had been crying. "I—"

"What the hell were we?! Tell me we weren't just friends, Juliet," you seethed. You feel your hands shaking.

Her head hangs low. She knew the truth, and so did you.

"I gave you my heart, my world," you sobbed. "And you took it and ran. Look what you've done—"

"I'm ready now." Her eyes shone with tears. She stepped closer to you, shaking her head. A single tears falls down her cheek. "Let me stay, let me apologize. My friends want me to move on, to get wasted and forget, but I can't!"

You knew what she was referring to. It was her ex boyfriend of nearly ten years, Andy Biersack. Their breakup was messy. It ended with him cheating on her and Juliet being left alone. You comforted her that night, held her while she sobbed.

"I can't forget that night because the only thing I remember is how you held me." You were only inches apart from her now. You feel your heart begin to pound, and you let your gaze fall to the slick sidewalk.

You shook your head. "This doesn't make sense," you said. "I love you, Juliet. This constant wonder of whether or not you feel the same has me running in circles."

"Please, just let me explain why—"

You turn away from her, and begin to walk away. Tears cascade down your face. You didn't want her to see you cry. "But I'm not hurt. I'll be fine without you, babe."

Juliet watches you leave her behind. She falls to her knees, her head in her hands, and begins to sob. She had messed everything up. One moment, one word that she wished she could change. But she couldn't. It was too late.

She had lost you.
