Chapter Nineteen: On Purpose

"You two were great friends..." the woman said smiling "You knew each other for a really long time"

"I'm sorry but I have to ask, what's your name?" I asked

"Oh... I'm so sorry sweetie..." She said shaking her head "Cecilia" she smiled

"That's a very pretty name" I smiled back

"Thank you, sweetheart"

"If I may ask ma'am... What happened to your son?" Xander asked

"Xander" I stared at him

"It's okay... He was in the same accident Chanel was in"

"Do you know what happened in the accident?" I asked

"Not exactly. The reports were held off by us and your parents till one of you got up. All we know is that the car ran into a train"

"A train?!"

"Yeah... It was horrible"

"Was I the one driving?" I asked her already knowing the answer. My heart aching.

"Yes" her eyes started glowing "I'm sure it's not your fault, sweetie... I'm sure something wrong happened"

"Chanel" Xander called "We should go, it's getting late..."

"Yeah..." I said standing up "I know sorry will never be enough... I know I did something horrible... but I am really sorry" I said holding my tears back

She came close to me and hugged me tightly. "Shh..." she whispered, "It's going to be okay..."

We walked to the door and as I was leaving this one sentence kept playing over and over in my brain.

You will see me again...

I stopped halfway out the door and turned to Cecilia.

"Aunt Cecilia... Please don't remove the monitors..." I told her "Please, I have a feeling he's going to be okay"

"Okay sweetie... I won't" she smiled

Leo

"Hey, gran" I said walking in

"Welcome"

"What are you doing here?"

I looked at the source of my downfall. My so-called father.

"I'm here to see my son," he said coldly

"Well, you've come to the wrong house," I said walking into my room to be stopped by one of his men.

"Listen, son, you're coming with me. This is enough."

"I'm not going anywhere with you," I said between clenched teeth

"I did not expect you to accept anyway." He said walking to the door

I felt like I'm being dragged out. My kicking didn't do anything, neither did my punches.

"Leo!" I heard the old woman who's been taking care of me cry out

"Gran! I'm gonna come back, I promise!"

"Leave him to me Raulf! PLEASE!" She cried out as I was being pushed into the car that drove away fast.

Chanel

"Thank you, Xan. I'm so sorry about this." I said as the car came to a stop

"Don't be stupid, Chanel."

"Thank you" I smiled stepping out of the car walking inside the house.

"Sweetie, you're late," my mom said standing in front of the window

"Well, I was visiting Cecilia Frank," I said

"Cecilia? How did you know their house?"

"I don't know," I told her "I just did"

"What happened?"

"Why didn't you tell me Joel was in the car with me? Why isn't anyone telling me anything about this accident? I ran with my supposedly-best friend into a train, mom!"

"Sweetheart... we didn't tell you because we didn't want you to feel how you feel right now... we didn't want that"

"That's not your decision to make!" I said walking up to my room.

I woke up early in the morning and sneaked out of the house.

I tried calling Leo multiple times, but he didn't answer. I don't know where I'm heading but I need to know what happened in that accident and to my car. I tried Xander too, but he didn't pick up. I stood in front of my house for a while thinking about who to call.

Eric came to mind for some weird reason.

I got my phone out and pressed dial.

"Hey, Chan"

"Hey, Eric. Are you free?"

"Yeah. What's up?"

"I need your help. Could you come? We're gonna go somewhere."

"Be there in 10."

After a while of sitting on the pavement. Eric arrived.

"What happened?" He asked as I stepped in the car

"If you had an accident and you need the reports of what happened. Where do you go?"

"The police."

"Well... can you drive us there?"

"Of course... Seatbelt" he pointed his chin beside me

"Oh..." I held the belt and pulled it and tucked it in that weird grey thing "Is that right?"

"Yeah...?" He shrugged and drove away

We got into the station and Eric asked the officers about the reports.

We got inside the office and sat down waiting after I told them when the accident happened.

We waited for what seemed like an hour.

"Why do you want this report?" Eric asked

"There are things I need to know. I don't know what happened in the accident. If I was drunk, they wouldn't have let me out of the hospital. They would've arrested me"

"Good point"

The officer showed up after a while with a file and sat down.

"Ms Chanel Antoine?" He asked

"Yes, sir."

"Welcome back. I'm glad you're doing well."

"Thank you so much, sir."

"So... this is the report you're allowed to read." He said handing me a paper titled 'Police Report'

"Brakes fail? On purpose?" I asked "Who could've done that? Why?"

"Well... Your parents suspected no one and they wanted to close the case because of your health"

"Can I reopen it?" I asked "I would like to know who did this to me and why..."

"You're allowed to. I can take your statement right now and we can start bringing people in to give their statements as well."

I looked at Eric for a second. He shrugged worriedly and I nodded at him. "Yes, please. Let's do that."

"Okay then."
