[2] - Crushes
Analogical week day 2: crushes/confession
Warnings: no

Roman whisked together the pancake batter, thinking to himself that it was a lot more fun to do so when he could dip his finger in it and wipe some at his husband's nose and then kiss it away. Unfortunately for him his husband was still at work.
He made the pancakes without his husband's wonderful company, instead listening to the quiet mumbles from the living room where his son's best friend was reading a book out loud. He smiled to himself as he flipped a pancake.
The two of them had been inseparable for the past year that they had known each other, to the great relief to him and Patton who had worried about their son's difficulty with making friends. But Virgil had started school and after only a few days he had been mentioning another boy in his class named Logan.
Roman and his husband had obviously been thrilled and ignored that the teachers would send Virgil home with notes saying that Virgil should be outside playing instead of sitting in the school's library with Logan during all the breaks, because who cared as long as his son had finally made a friend and was now more comfortable with going to school.
So what if they both preferred being inside and reading books and comics and playing minecraft or watching youtube together instead of being outside rolling around in dirt and climbing trees and doing sports. Roman was never much for sports, he preferred theatre and writing stories, and he had turned out just fine.
He put the last pancake on the huge pile on the plate, turning the stove off and putting the bowl and the rest of the dirty dishes in the sink. He got jam (some jam called Crofters that Virgil insisted that they have) and the whipped cream he had prepared earlier out of the fridge. The table was already set for the four of them, even if Patton wouldn't be home for another hour.
Having prepared everything he stepped out of the kitchen, pausing in the doorway to the living room to take a moment to watch the two kids. Logan was sitting and leaning into Virgil so they could both see the pictures as he read for him. How absolutely adorable.
"Hey, kiddos, dinner's ready." He called, the two of them immediately looking up.
"Pancakes!" Virgil whispered loudly, shaking Logan's arm, and soon enough they were running towards the kitchen hand in hand.
"You two reading something fun?" Roman wondered, serving them with pancakes and letting them choose their amount of toppings themselves.
"Mhm, we're reading a comic, it's really fun." Virgil said, eating his rolled up pancake with his hands and spilling lots of whipped cream onto his plate.
"You're really good at reading, Lo." Virgil told his friend who was spreading almost a quarter of a jar of crofters onto his pancake. Roman supposed that explained why Virgil was so insistent on getting that precise jam.
"I know. I enjoy reading to you." Logan said, ever so humble.
"What was the book you were reading at school during lunch break?" Virgil asked, taking another bite of his pancake. Roman hoped he would remember to remind Virgil to wash his hands after dinner before touching anything.
"Oh, the book about space!" Logan said, seeming to light up just remembering it and then spending the entire meal talking about space and telling them space facts. Roman was pretty sure Logan was just misremembering a few of them.
After dinner it didn't take very long until Logan's dad came and picked him up, though the two of them had time to watch some Steven Universe and share a long hug by the door before Logan's dad managed to get him to come with him to the car with the reminder that the two would see each other at school on Monday.
Once they had left Roman returned to the kitchen to clean up, putting the dirty dishes in the dishwasher and washing the things that couldn't go in it. Virgil was sitting on a chair watching him the entire time, although he had helped by putting his own plate and cutlery in the dishwasher.
"Dad?" Virgil said, looking awfully serious for a six year old where he was sitting in his chair as Roman put the leftover pancakes in the fridge
"Yes my little darling?" Roman said, sitting down by the table to show his son that he had all his attention.
"I'm going to marry Logan when I grow up." He said, stating that fact more confidently than anything else he had ever told Roman and for a moment he gaped at his son, then quickly closed his mouth as he tried to think of how to possibly respond to that.
These were the kinds of conversations that parenting books hadn't warned him about.
"Wow, that's- that's great Verge. I bet you'll be very happy together." He said and grinned, absolutely not being able to be cool about it because that was the cutest thing he had ever been told, and he was married to Patton Hart.
Roman was already writing his speech for Virgil and Logan's wedding in his head. He had never really thought of the possibility for Virgil and Logan to grow up and get together and marry each other, that would be a bit absurd as the two of them were six year olds, but it wasn't impossible that it would happen.
Yes, they were kids, yes the chances of them actually getting married were probably incredibly slim, but...Roman was a romantic at his core and, oh, what a love story that would be!
"Mhm, Logan asked me, he said you can get married when you're eighteen because then you're an adult, and that's only in twelve years." Virgil said wisely and Roman probably shouldn't be sitting there with a wide grin, but the thought of the two of them discussing marriage was just adorable. They had made an entire plan!
"Why do you want to marry him?" Roman asked because he just couldn't stop himself. Virgil leaned back in his chair with a very thoughtful expression.
"He makes me happy." He said, nodding a little to accentuate his words, and Roman leaned his chin in his hands and tried to keep from squealing. Somehow he managed a straight face despite how cute it was that his son seemed to have a kid crush.
"I'm really happy to hear that, you deserve people that make you happy." Roman said, hoping that that was something Virgil would remember throughout his entire life.
If Virgil ever got a real crush on Logan when they were older, Roman was going to have so much fun telling him about this conversation.
"Dad?" Virgil said again.
"Yes, Verge?"
"Can I have ice cream?" He looked up at him with pleading eyes that he had to have learnt from Patton since they were entirely irresistible.
"Well- yeah, why not." Roman said, caving easier than he should and getting up from the chair to get the ice cream out of the freezer. He allowed Virgil to sit on the couch with a bowl of ice cream to watch Netflix's She-Ra despite knowing the dangers, but he supposed he would just have to suck it up and find a way to clean chocolate ice cream off their couch cushions if Virgil spilled anything.
Soon Roman heard keys in the door and the sound of Patton stumbling over something in their hallway.
"Hi there my lovelies, do I smell pancakes?" Patton stuck his head into the living room, beelining to Virgil to give him a hug and a kiss to the top of his head before turning towards Roman, pulling him up from the couch and squeezing his sides and kissing him.
"Yep, leftover pancakes are in the fridge." He pressed a kiss to Patton's nose.
"Oh, Pat, do I have something adorable to tell you later!" He mumbled, trying not to alert the attention of Virgil in case he would feel shy about it. Virgil was generally not the most enthusiastic when it came to feelings-y stuff and Roman didn't know if he would appreciate hearing them discuss his marriage plans.
However, their son put his bowl of half melted ice cream on the coffee table, walking up to Patton and tugging at his sleeve.
"What is it, cutie?" Patton said, reaching down to ruffle Virgil's hair.
"I'm going to marry Logan." He said, still so very confidently, rendering Patton as speechless as he had Roman.
