[1] - Warmth
Analogical week day 1: fear/warmth (warmth)
--
"Hey there, L." Virgil mumbled, not wanting to disturb the quiet in the kitchen. Despite his low voice the logical side jumped, the jar of Crofters slipping from his fingers.
Luckily for Logan Virgil had walked up almost right behind Logan before realizing he should announce his presence and he managed to catch the jar. Or maybe he was the lucky one as Logan whirled around and immediately looked at Virgil as if he had saved his life instead of having caught his jam, too relieved of the true love of his life being safe to scold Virgil for sneaking up on him.
Honestly, Logan could dump him to date the jam and Virgil wouldn't be that surprised.
"Ah, Verge, I did not see you there." He reached for the jam, placing it on the counter and smoothing his tie down as if that would erase the fact that Virgil had managed to scare him.
"Sorry, don't mean to be quiet, just am." He said, hopping up to sit on the counter as Logan looked through a drawer and then sighed and checked the dishwasher for what he was looking for.
His unnatural ability to move quietly probably had something to do with being the embodiment of anxiety, but he hadn't thought that hard about it. Mostly it was just fun to be able to sneak up on Roman, or helpful to move about the mindscape without being heard when he didn't want to be paid attention to.
"I am aware. There's no need to apologize." Logan said, having found Virgil's ability much more interesting than Virgil had. He had tried to ask him about it ages ago, but at that point Virgil had still been iffy about the whole famILY thing and had refused to talk.
He sat quietly on the counter and thought a bit about the past and how far he had come now as he watched Logan wash a butterknife and then grab two toasts from the toaster, buttering them before actually managing to find a clean spoon in the drawer.
He placed the toasts on a plate next to the jam jar, pausing to press a little kiss to Virgil's cheek as he passed him and leaving the anxious side blushing furiously while he drenched those defenseless pieces of bread in Crofters.
"So, why are you still awake?" Logan wondered, glancing quickly past Virgil towards the clock on the kitchen wall.
"My room's cold." He mumbled, hoping that Logan wouldn't hear him and decide not to ask him to repeat himself, because it just felt like such a stupid thing to ruin his sleeping schedule over. His room could get downright freezing sometimes, though Virgil was pretty sure that he was just a lot colder than the light sides.
Maybe it was a dark side thing because Janus and Remus had always been very cold. But then again Janus had a lot of snake characteristics and Virgil wouldn't be surprised if he was cold blooded. Remus, well, he purposefully kept himself at the same temperature as a corpse.
"Then why not sleep in my room?" Logan wondered, having heard him just fine and suggested exactly what Virgil thought he would. It wasn't the first time he had suggested Virgil join him, he always did when finding Virgil up late, even before they were dating.
Virgil was nervous about that for what he thought was a whole lot of perfectly valid reasons, though. Waking Logan up in the middle of the night or later was not something he wanted to do. Entering without knocking just felt wrong. And what if he snored or talked in his sleep and said embarrassing things or had weird dreams or a million other things.
"Thought you were asleep already." He said, because that was a much easier answer.
"You are allowed in my room at any time. Does not matter if I am there or not or awake or not. You are always welcome and I won't be upset at being woken up, I promise." Logan assured and Virgil shrugged slightly, not having the heart to tell him that it didn't really matter what he said, Virgil would still be an anxious mess about things like these at the end of the day.
"Why are you up?" He asked, already knowing the answer but rather changing the topic than having Logan trying to get it into his head that he wasn't a bother. That was kind of a waste of time.
"Oh, forgot about the time, found a couple of interesting documentaries, one about deep sea life that I think you would enjoy." Logan put his Crofters and the butter back in the fridge, leaving the cutlery in the dishwasher and turning it on so they would have clean utensils in the morning. Honestly, they wouldn't make it a week without Logan.
"I just wanted something to eat before bed, I was hungry. Would you like one?" He held the plate up to Virgil who shook his head.
"Thanks but nah, I'm good." Virgil said, not entirely finding it necessary to tell Logan he had eaten an entire bag of chips by himself before trying to sleep two hours ago.
"Suit yourself." Logan said, biting into his toast with a small and blissful smile. Virgil shook his head at the sight of his boyfriend.
"Should I give you and the jam some alone time?" He said, not being able to keep from teasing Logan just a little. Logan didn't dignify that with a response, settling on merely giving Virgil a half hearted glare.
Virgil had completely forgotten why he had come to the kitchen, maybe for a warm drink or simply to get out of his room that felt freezing despite his many blankets, it didn't matter. He was awfully content sitting on the counter watching Logan eat, which was kind of weird but he was a bit of a sap ever since he had started dating Logan.
Logan finished his toast, putting the plate in the sink and turning back towards Virgil who felt a bit caught.
"Would you like to sleep in my room? I would like your company, if you are comfortable sharing my bed. We can watch the deep sea life documentary, I'm only halfway through and I don't mind starting over." Logan offered.
Virgil bit his lip, hesitating for a long while and feeling unnecessarily warm in the face about the whole bed sharing thing.
"I've never slept in the same room as someone else before." He said.
"I have to admit, I don't understand the problem." Logan told him and Virgil grimaced, not wanting to have to be all open and sincere because it was kind of gross and he hated to share things.
"What if, I dunno, I snore or something?" He said, staring straight ahead towards the dishwasher instead of meeting Logan's eyes. A warm hand was placed on his knee and he gave up and looked at his boyfriend.
"You do not have to sleep in my room if you are not comfortable with it. I merely want you to get the sleep you need and, I'll admit, I would very much enjoy sharing a bed with you because I love you. Snoring won't scare me away." Logan said and Virgil contemplated melting into a puddle of affection on the floor because that's what his body felt like it was about to do.
"Love you too, L," Virgil murmured, trying to figure out how Logan could say things like that so casually while he choked up and went red just at the thought, "and, okay, yeah, okay, I'd like to sleep in your room. The documentary sounds interesting."
"I'm glad." Logan said, taking Virgil's hands and sinking out with him, rising up in Logan's room. "I will be back in a moment."
Virgil was left alone as Logan disappeared into his bathroom, standing there sheepishly for a moment before crawling onto Logan's bed. The documentary was indeed paused halfway through on Logan's tv.
He had been in Logan's room a bunch of times before, probably almost every day since a few months ago. It was likely the calmest room in the entire mindscape and definitely Virgil's favorite room. It was the calmest at night, with glow in the dark stars stuck to Logan's ceiling and fairy lights strung above his bed and along bookshelves.
And it was warmer than Virgil's room, definitely. Though possibly it mostly had to do with Logan's presence, he considered, as Logan joined him on the bed and pressed a minty fresh kiss to his lips, effectively warming Virgil up several degrees.
"Feel free to leave if you change your mind. I don't want you to stay if you're not comfortable." Logan told him, snapping his fingers to put himself in his pajamas.
"Yeah, okay." Virgil said, at the moment having unusually little worries about the night ahead of them.
He leaned back against Logan's pillows as Logan restarted the documentary. Then he seated himself close to Virgil, reaching for the blankets to pull them over them both, immediately wrapping Virgil in warmth and comfort.
The documentary played, Logan putting his glasses on his nightstand and seeming content just listening to it ratchet than watching. Then again he had already seen half of it.
It was very interesting, Logan had been right about that, as he usually was. They watched a lot of documentaries together and Logan had yet to show him something boring, which was very impressive as there were a lot of things Virgil wasn't interested in.
His focus was broken though, as Logan scooted down slightly and rolled closer to him, pressing up against his side. He practically held his breath as Logan's arm wrapped around him, his fingers burying in his oversized t-shirt.
"Is this alright?" Logan wondered sleepily, looking up at him, and Virgil hoped that the dark of the room hid his flushed face. He nodded, not trusting his voice to not come out squeaky or weird.
It was definitely alright, Logan initiating cuddles was just as rare as Virgil initiating it, but it was infinitely more comfortable and he could feel Logan's chest rise and fall with every breath and it was warm, so perfectly warm that he couldn't remember what he had been worrying about because he didn't think he had ever been more comfortable.
He relaxed into the pillows and the warmth, attempting to fight the losing battle to stay awake longer and make it through more than ten minutes of the documentary, but he was chanceless, far too comfortable with Logan next to him.
They would definitely do this again.
