[6] Hold My Hand

T.W. Anxiety.

Logan sighed, he'd been working for three days now, trying to figure out a schedule for Thomas, and it was not going the way he had planned. Of course he had taken breaks from it to eat and sleep, and spend an hour or so with his boyfriend, but it was safe to say, he was overworking himself. He knew he was, but he couldn't bring himself to stop, and he knew when he overworked himself, he worried his fellow sides.

During the day, he'd been interrupted a few times, not too many, compared to other days where he would be interrupted every few minutes, but in his opinion, the less times the better. Due to his lack of interruption, he was surprised when Virgil came in and stopped him.

Virgil walked into his boyfriends room, and sighed. He'd not seen him all day, and he was beginning to get worried. He knew how his boyfriend got, and he had to try and stop him from overworking, even though it would only be temporary.

He sighed and took in his boyfriend's disheveled appearance, he would never learn...

He walked over to the desk, and grabbed Logan's wrists, the shock from someone else being there, caused Logan to drop the pen he was using, and he turned his head towards his boyfriend.

Virgil's breath caught in his throat, and he had to fight the urge to back away. He refused to let his anxiety get the better of him, especially when Logan needed stopping.

Logan opened his mouth to ask Virgil what it was he was doing, but his words failed him, and he too found it awkward being so close to Virgil. As illogical as it was, they weren't the best when it came to being so close to one another.

Virgil swallowed, and bit his lip nervously.

He felt Logan's hand move beneath his wrist, and he let his arm go slack, knowing Logan wouldn't reach for his pen.

Logan lifted his hand and used his finger and thumb to hold Virgil's chin, allowing him to lock eyes with him.

The gesture did nothing to ease the butterflies Virgil felt in his stomach, but he knew Logan just wanted him to stop biting his lip, which the gesture helped with, since it caught him off guard, and he froze.

Logan lifted his thumb from beneath Virgil's chin and ran it over his lower lip gently, knowing he needed to ask before he kissed him. He smiled fondly at the side in front of him, and moved his other hand to Virgil's cheek, holding him softly.

"May I?" Logan whispered, his voice being the only sound in the room, not that either of them minded, the silence was grately appreciated.

Virgil nodded slightly, and Logan shifted his hand that was by Virgil's mouth, and used his other to guide Virgil closer to him, all the while, his eyes scanned Virgil's face for any sign of discomfort.

Virgil smiled, he loved how careful Logan was with him, and how much Logan understood about him. He loved when Logan would ask him if he was okay, or  if he asked for permission to kiss him. He was head over heels for Logan, and both males knew it.

Unable to wait any longer, Virgil closed the gap between them, his eyes fluttering closed as soon as their lips met.

It wasn't a long kiss, nor was it anything special, but knowing they cared about each other, and were able to be intimate in small ways made them both feel better about everything.

When they parted everything came flooding back all at once, the silence of the room, the weight of Virgil's hands on Logan's wrists, and Logan's hands on Virgil's cheeks, the love they felt for one another, everything they ever felt or noticed about the other came back, not that it ever really left, but it was there, and it hit them all over again.

Logan smiled Virgil, wondering how he got to be so lucky.

Virgil slid his hands up Logan's wrists until he got to his hands, and, despite not wanting to, he moved Logan's hands from his face, and held both of his hands, thinking through his next move. He knew he'd distracted Logan from his work long enough that he wouldn't want to go back for a while, and he knew he wanted to spend more time with him.

Virgil pulled him to his feet, and led him to the bed in the corner of the room. He felt much less anxious over being with his boyfriend than he had when he first entered the room, but the remnants of it lay in his stomach, and he knew anything would send it up again.

He sat on the edge of the bed, and Logan knew what that meant.

Virgil smiled as he watched Logan climb into the bed, and rest his back against the headboard.

Virgil followed him up the bed, and rested his back against Logan's chest, which was their common way of cuddling, and when Logan's hands wrapped around his middle, Virgil laced his fingers through Logan's and smiled when he felt Logan's head rest on his shoulder.

The butterflies in his stomach fluttered again, and he knew if he didn't focus on something else, their presence would consume his mind and he'd be unable to focus on anything else other than the painful anxiety over being so close to his boyfriend.

He lifted the hand he was holding Logan's with, and began to play with their fingers. He had a small content smile on his face, and it was times like that where he wished nothing else would happen.

Logan smiled, happy to spend the time with his boyfriend, and he pressed a kiss to the side of Virgil's head.

Virgil's cheeks lit up a vibrant shade of red, and he ducked his head, hoping his hair would cover his cheeks.

"You're adorable." Logan murmured in his ear, and Virgil smiled, however the compliment did nothing to ease the burning of his cheeks, if anything, it made it worse.

After an hour of sitting in silence, and sharing smiles, small kisses, and anything else, the two drifted off.

-

This was the fifth time this week. Thomas had called them again, just to talk about some guy he'd met, that most likely wasn't gay, and he would never see again. Virgil was getting sick of it, and when Roman went into his overly romantic mood, it raised all other emotions, anxiety included, which wasn't fun for Virgil.

He stood in his place on the stairs and sighed. His heart was beating wildly, and he didn't know how much more of Roman's romantics, Patton's happiness, and Thomas' sappiness he could take before he snapped.

Of course he had a boyfriend, and he understood how it felt to be in love with someone, but there was only so much sappy lovey dovey stuff he could take.

"Would you shut up!" He snapped, bringing his hands to his pockets. If they weren't in his pockets, they'd be in his hair, and he didn't think he could handle that right then. "I don't care about this guy. I don't care that you think he's cute, or whatever. He's a stranger and you won't meet him again. I don't want to be summoned every few minutes because you're daydreaming about some stranger. It's creepy, and I can't deal with it!"

Virgil took a deep, shaky breath, and sunk out. He made it back to his room, and immediately broke down. He couldn't handle it all. It was too much, and he needed a break. He wasn't sleeping well, and he didn't know how to bring it up with Logan, so he couldn't easily tell him.

A knock at his door brought him down from his thoughts, and he sighed, running a hand through his hair.

He didn't mean to snap. Not really. He just didn't know how else to express his opinions.

The door swung open, revealing his concerned boyfriend.

"Virgil?"

Virgil didn't know what came over him, but any anxiety he had over being close to Logan left him, and he flung himself into his boyfriend's arms, knowing he'd be okay with it.

Logan managed to get them over to Virgil's bed, and they sat together in silence, Logan running his hand through Virgil's hair, something he knew Virgil could focus on, and it would help to calm him down.

After a while, Virgil sighed and lifted his hands to his eyes, wiping away any tears left on his cheeks.

"I'm sorry." He managed to get out, and he looked up at Logan with sad eyes. He knew he'd made a mistake, but he didn't know how to fix it.

"It is okay. You are allowed to explode sometimes." Logan smiled fondly, and cupped Virgil's cheeks, ignoring the slight blush that rose to his cheeks.

"I just wish I knew how to handle these things better. I can't explode every time my anxiety runs away and consumes me."

"No, but until then, I will be here to help calm you down."

Virgil smiled sadly, and wrapped his arms around Logan's shoulders, after moving himself so he was facing him.

"Would it be alright if I kissed you?"

"Yeah... Please."

Logan smiled and closed the small gap between them. Unlike most of their other kisses, this one was faster, almost rushed, and Virgil found it easier to let everything go when they kissed, compared to when he was talking about how he felt.

When they parted, Virgil was slightly breathless, and it didn't take him long to reconnect their lips. Of course he was still anxious, but kissing his boyfriend helped him forget about that.

Logan stopped them all too soon, and Virgil sighed.

"As much as it would be preferable to continue, you should go and apologise."

Virgil bit his lip softly, and looked down at his lap. "I know..."

"But?"

"I want to stay away. I don't want to go back. Not yet."

"The sooner you apologise, the sooner you can come back here, and we can cuddle again."

"I suppose." Virgil smiled weakly, and stood up from the bed, Logan following suit.

They sunk out into Thomas' living room. Virgil kept his head down, and his hands in his pockets.

It took him a few minutes, but when he finally spoke, he looked at their host, and apologised. He hadn't meant to cause any issues, and he knew what his host was like, especially when Roman's romantic feelings got involved. He explained everything, and he smiled weakly, hoping they didn't think any worse of him.

Patton was the first to speak up. Reassuring him, with a kind smile, and Virgil found himself relaxing a lot more. Roman and Thomas soon added that it was fine, and it didn't take long before Virgil was back in the mind with Logan, and the two were sat cuddling on Virgil's bed, looking up at the stars painted on the ceiling.

Logan reached over and laced his fingers through Virgil's, and smiled. Virgil responded immediately, and smiled, squeezing Logan's hand, ignoring the flurry of butterflies in his stomach.

He rolled onto his side, and looked at his boyfriend, smiling at the way he pretended not to notice.

"I love you." Virgil murmured and watched Logan turn his head to him.

"I hold strong feelings for you too."

Virgil smiled and shook his head fondly, before cuddling into Logan's side, using him as a pillow, and drifting off.

-

Virgil glanced at the kitchen. Logan had been talking to Patton for too long in his opinion, and he was craving any form of physical contact.

He sighed and walked over to him. The conversation that was going on between the two older sides didn't interest him, and he hadn't been listening, even though he would have been able to hear every word if he'd wanted to.

He stood to the side, unsure of how to initiate anything. In an ideal world, he'd have walked over to him, and wrapped his arms around his waist, making it so that he didn't get too distracted from his conversation, but Virgil didn't hold that much confidence, and it was surprising he'd even walked over to him in the first place. He sighed, and felt his hand twitch by his side. He didn't know whether or not to hold Logan's hand.

He watched him talking, and messing with his glasses, and Virgil found it adorable, not that he'd ever admit it out loud.

His hand was gripping his jeans, in an attempt to keep it still, and he sighed quietly, he didn't know what to do. He didn't want to be a distraction, but he needed his boyfriend's touch.

He was so deep in thought, he hadn't noticed Roman walk into the kitchen and wrap his arms around Patton's waist.

He looked down, and found himself feeling slightly sad, he couldn't do that, even if he wanted to. Roman and Patton looked so at home in each other's arms, and he couldn't bring himself to even attempt it. He was too anxious, and he needed the help and reassurance.

Logan, having noticed Virgil's presence, reached out and held his wrist gently, making Virgil's head snap up, and he looked at him in some sort of shock.

Logan smiled to himself, and continued the conversation he was having. He didn't know how else he could really help Virgil when it came to his insecurities with affection in front of the other two, so he did what he thought he could without making him too anxious.

Virgil snapped out of his slight shock, and looked at his boyfriend fondly. He watched the way Patton eyed their hands close proximity, and he saw the small smile on Roman's face.

In reality, he knew how they would react about the two being affectionate, but he couldn't bring himself to actually be affectionate towards Logan. His anxiety made it almost impossible to do anything about it.

He looked down, and put his free hand in his pocket. He sighed, and watched Logan's hand on his wrist. He wanted to take his hand in his own, badly, but he didn't know how to do it without making it look awkward.

After a few minutes, Logan's hand slipped down slightly, and his fingertips brushed against Virgil's palm.

Virgil moved his hand slightly, and let Logan's fingers wrap around his own. He smiled weakly, and squeezed Logan's hands, happy he did something to help.

Not long after, Patton and Roman left the two of them in the kitchen, and Virgil let out a breath he didn't know he'd been holding.

"They accept anything. You know that, correct?"

"I know. I just worry..."

"I am aware." Logan chuckled softly, and he pulled Virgil closer to him.

Virgil gulped, and looked at Logan, slightly unsure of his actions. Logan's free hand rested on his cheek, and Virgil found himself relaxing in his hold.

Logan's thumb trailed along Virgil's cheekbone, and Virgil leaned into the touch.

"Please..."

"Hm?"

"Can you... I um..."

Logan smiled and brought Virgil's face closer to his. "Like this?"

Virgil nodded slightly, and his breath caught in his throat. "Please."

Logan smiled, and connected their lips, letting Virgil take over.

Virgil's hand fell from his pocket, and he lifted it to Logan's shoulder, using it as a sort of support. All the while, his other hand never left Logan's.

The two soon parted, and Virgil smiled, ducking his head slightly. "I'm never going to get used to it." He murmured, and Logan smiled.

"That is perfectly fine."

Virgil smiled and let himself be pulled into a hug by his boyfriend, and the two stood there for a while, not feeling the need to leave that moment.

-

Logan sighed and looked at the two more extravagant sides. He knew Virgil was being affected by their loudness, but he didn't know what he could do.

Virgil glanced over at him every few moments, and he knew he was getting worse. He didn't want to speak up, that wasn't his thing, but he knew he may have to.

Virgil bit his lip harshly, and he knew he needed to stop, but he couldn't. He kept sending glances at Logan, hoping he'd do something, but it seemed as though he didn't know what to do, which was unusual.

Virgil looked at his hands, both of their hands were by their sides, and Virgil knew what he needed.

He reached out, and bumped his knuckles against Logan's hand, indicating he needed to hold it, to have some form of contact to help ground him.

Logan seemed to understand, and he laced their fingers together, knowing the contact often helped to keep Virgil calmer.

Virgil looked at Logan was a small smile, and thanked him silently. It wasn't much, but knowing his boyfriend was on his side made it so much easier to deal with.

It didn't take much longer for them to be done with Thomas, and the four sides sunk out of the real world.

Logan took this opportunity to take Virgil to the Imagination, where they could spend time alone, and not have to worry about being interrupted.

They went to the top of a hill, and spent the rest of the evening sat next to one another, their hands laced together, shoulders touching, gazing over the lands below.

It wasn't much, but it was calming, and it was pleasant to be around one another.

As the sun began to set, Logan used his free hand to cup Virgil's cheek and bring their faces closer together.

Virgil smiled and closed the gap, knowing it was something they both wanted. Their lips moved together, and Virgil felt at ease again.

And like some cliche romance movie, the two sat kissing as the sun set behind them.
