"Just sign here (y/n)." Your soon to be ex-husbands lawyer pushed the final divorce papers in front of you.
Just one more signature is all it takes to end the four years of marriage to your first love. The man you thought was your forever - now about to become nothing but a distant painful memory.
You used to be so happy, so in love. You don't understand why or how everything turned out the way it has. Six years in total you had given that man your heart - but lately, the last year or so, has been nothing but constant fights, long nights of drinking to numb the ache, and marriage counseling.
But even with counseling, it didn't get better - he even stopped going, calling it pointless.
Now here you are.
You glanced up, meeting the sympathetic eyes of 'Piett', your husbands lawyer, "He's not coming is he?"
Piett shook his head slowly with a sigh, "No I'm sorry, he said it was too hard for him and hopes that you understand. But he did sign the papers before giving them to me." He pointed to the signature - making your chest tighten in anguish, you didn't want to believe that this was really happening.
X 𝒜𝓃𝒶𝓀𝒾𝓃 𝒮𝓀𝓎𝓌𝒶𝓁𝓀ℯ𝓇
You closed your eyes trying to suppress the tears that were begging to break free. You held the pen in your hand, hovering it over the line below his signature - the place that's meant for yours.
How could it all have gone so wrong?

"This seat taken?" You heard a soft voice speak from next to you as you slowly took a sip of your drink.
You nodded while setting the glass on top of the bar, "Yes actually," You sighed - annoyed by the amount of men that have come up to you within the past two minutes alone. They're worse than vultures when they see a woman sitting alone at a bar, and some can be relentless. You turned your head to fully look at him, hoping to scare him off like the others. Your gaze immediately landing on his gorgeous blue eyes before traveling across his features, "Or not." You uttered; this mans appearance took your very breath away - never have you seen someone so gorgeous.
He smiled as he eyed you up and down, taking in your lavender dress that sparkled like it was covered in diamonds, "Can I buy you a drink?" He sat at the bar stool next to you, his eyes never leaving yours.
You nodded, "Sure."
"What do you want?"
You shrugged, "surprise me."
Accepting the challenge, he called the bartender and ordered, but due to the loud music - you missed everything that was said between them. The bartender nodded and began making the mystery drink as you watched.
The gorgeous man next to you leaned close to your ear, "What's your name beautiful?" He asked as you breathed in his sweet smelling cologne.
"(y/n)." You told him with a smile, "And yours?"
"Anakin."
A few minutes went by and you were giggling while drinking the beverage he ordered for you. It wasn't anything you've had before, but it instantly became your favorite - the sweetness mixed with the alcohol was near perfect, and you finished it in the same amount of time it took the bartender to make it.
"You have a beautiful laugh," Anakin complimented you - making your cheeks burn in a blush.
"Thank-" You paused when you glanced behind him - noticing a certain individual walking your way, someone you had completely forgotten about, "Hey you wanna get out of here?" You offered, taking him by surprise.
He shrugged, not wanting to dismiss this opportunity to spend more time with you and placed money down on the bar, "Alright let's go."
You smiled with excitement as you got off the stool, and grabbed his hand - practically pulling him through the crowd at a quick pace, "Sorry, I just really hate crowds." You yelled over the music, hoping he doesn't start to think you're insane for this.
But he didn't think you were insane, he actually found you to be interesting - so he allowed you to pull him through the crowds. He knew there was more to this than just having a dislike for crowded areas, but he didn't care enough at the moment to ask. He was just excited to spend more time with the beautiful woman that caught his attention over everyone else.
You finally got out of the club, and paused for a moment to catch your breath - taking in the cold winter air, making you shiver.
Anakin already had his jacket off, and he placed it over your shoulder to give you warmth, "Thank you." You smiled up at him.
He nodded with a smile of his own, "There's a cafe a block from here, care for a drink that doesn't have alcohol?" He held his hand out to you - hoping you'd accept his invitation.
Of course, you did.
"Date?" Anakin's eyes widened in surprise when you revealed the real reason you dragged him out of the club.
You nodded sheepishly as the waitress set a hot chocolate - your favorite - in front of you, and you thanked her before turning your attention back to Anakin, "In my defense, it was the first date and it wasn't going very well - he wouldn't stop talking about the gym and how much he can curl or bench or whatever." You rolled your eyes - wondering why you even accepted an offer to go on a date with a tool.
You were a little nervous that Anakin was going to think horribly of you, but to your relief - he began to laugh, "I can't believe I stole someone's date, that's definitely a first. Where even was he?" He asked curiously since you were alone for quite some time.
"Bathroom," You chuckled, "I'm guessing he ate too many protein bars."
Anakin laughed again, completely amused by the situation, "Is it horrible that I don't feel bad for stealing his date?"
You placed your finger on your chin as if you were thinking, "Well, do you think it's horrible that I don't feel bad for ditching him mid-date?"
Both of you smiled at each other, knowing the answer to both of those questions. Neither of you felt bad, because in both of your hearts you knew - tonight was the night that was going to change your lives forever.
"Thank you for bringing me home," You stepped out of his car while he held the door open for you.
"Of course, can't have a beautiful woman like you walking the streets at night." He flirted as he closed the door, and walked you up the steps to your apartment.
You pushed in your key for the building and unlocked it, "I'd invite you in but, I'm not the kind of girl who sleeps with a man on the first date - second one is fair game though." You added, hoping he knew you were only making a joke.
He chuckled with a head shake, "So you would say this was a date?" He asked with a raised brow.
"I'd like to think so, I had fun," You shrugged with a flirty smile, "Thats also the first time I ever had hot chocolate come out of my nose."
"Yeah, I probably shouldn't have made that joke when you were mid-drink," He laughed - recalling the recent memory. Luckily it was already when the beverage had cooled down so it wasn't painful.
"That was a horrible joke by the way, funny yes - but you're going to hell for it." You shook your head with an amused sigh.
He smiled beautifully, "Well you laughed, so you'll be joining me."
"Want to hear an even better one?" You asked and he tilted his head with curiosity, "What's the hardest part of a vegetable to eat?"
He furrowed his brows as he thought for a moment, "The stem?" He answered with uncertainty.
You smirked, "The wheelchair."
His hand shot up to his mouth as he laughed, "Thats horrible, we definitely have a one-way ticket downstairs." He walked up the steps as he took a deep breath to catch up on his oxygen from his laughter, "So do I get to see you again?"
You smiled brightly with a nod, "How about breakfast in the morning?" You suggested.
"I'll be here at nine." He accepted your request as he grabbed your hand and placed a small kiss on the back of it - making your heart thump in your chest.
"Nine is perfect," You stepped down to get closer to him, and gently pressed your own kiss on his cheek - causing him to have the same fluttering reaction he gave you.
You backed away slowly and caught his eyes. Then—without thinking, Anakin leaned down and kissed your lips.
He moved them softly and savored the sweet taste that lingered on your lips from the chocolate. You didn't even hesitate to kiss him back either. For someone you just met - you surprisingly felt comfortable, and you'd be lying if you said you hadn't thought about doing this almost the entire night.
After a few bliss-filled seconds, you both backed away from the unexpected kiss, "I'll see you in the morning beautiful." He gently pinched your cheek, prompting you to blush as you watched him walk away.

"Ow, babe," You complained when you walked straight into a wall. You couldn't see anything with this blind-fold that he had put on you.
Anakin chuckled in amusement, "Well I told you to go more to the right (y/n)."
You rolled your eyes even though he couldn't see and allowed him to continue guiding you to wherever this 'surprise' was, "Are we almost there?" You asked impatiently - anticipating whatever he had planned for you.
You felt his lips graze next to your ear, immediately causing a multitude of goosebumps to cover your arms, "Yes my love." He stopped your movements, and held your waist tightly - placing a sweet kiss on your cheek. He removed his hold on you and you heard him moving around the room, "Okay you can take it off."
You practically ripped off the blindfold, and instantly gasped - shooting your hands up to cover your mouth.
There, kneeling down on one knee in the middle of a circle of rose petals surrounded by candles, was the love of your life. He smiled brighter than you've ever seen and held a small box up towards you, "Ever since the night I met you, I knew you were special (y/n). And these past two years have been the greatest years of my life, I have never been happier and there is nothing I want more than to spend the rest of my life with you," He choked as he began to cry, you were crying as well and began cursing to yourself for not wearing waterproof mascara, "I know we've had our downs, but our love over-shines everything and as long as we have each other, we'll always be okay. You are the love of my life and the only person I could ever want. So will you do me the honors and become my wife?" He opened the box; revealing the most beautiful ring you had ever seen.
You still held her hands to your mouth as you sobbed with joy - dropping down to your knees in-front of him, "Ani," You choked between you tears as you held your left hand towards him, "I would love to be your wife."
He excitedly placed the ring on your finger and kissed your hand, before pulling you into an embrace and crashing his lips to yours. Kissing you like it was the first and last time, "I love you (y/n)." He whispered as he broke free from the passionate act, leaning his forehead against yours.
"I love you too Anakin." You smiled - your heart hammering in your chest. This was the happiest you have ever been, and you knew in your heart that this was the start of something beautiful.
•
"I do."
Anakin pulled you into an embrace as the crowd cheered to celebrate your life-long bond, "Now you're stuck with me forever Mrs.Skywalker." He tightly wrapped his arms around you - never wishing to let you go.
You smiled while gently caressing his cheek as he continued to kiss you repeatedly on every part of your face, "I couldn't ask for anything better Mr.Skywalker."
"Thank you for being in my life, I don't know what I would do without you." He whispered as he hugged you close to him.
Clinging to his tuxedo, with your head resting on his chest - you whispered back, "I could say the same Ani."

You grabbed the plate of cold food after reading the text that Anakin was stuck at the hospital. You sighed sadly, placing it in the microwave for him to grab when he does decide to come home.
You were happy that he got the job he always wanted - he worked hard and you supported his decision to get into medical school. You loved that he was able to something he enjoys, but...
You missed him.
You never got to see him anymore, and when you did - it was mostly bickering over small things that hardly mattered. But the stress from his job, and your stress from the lack of affection and attention - has made you both more irritable.
It broke your heart to hardly get along with your best friend, but you were doing your best to be patient - hoping with time that things would improve.

"What do you mean it's pointless?" You argued, throwing the keys on the table as Anakin threw his coat over a chair.
"I mean, that it's pointless," He spoke slowly like you were stupid - making your blood boil, "We're getting nowhere in those sessions, we can try something else." He sighed, dropping down on the couch and closing his eyes.
"Well I don't think it's pointless," Your eyes began to water as you stared down at the man you were starting not to recognize, "I want to keep going, to help us through this."
He breathed through his nose heavily without opening his eyes, "I'm not going anymore (y/n)." He spoke sternly.
Tears poured down your cheeks and you turned around so he wouldn't see you cry, "Fine." You breathed, walking away until a noise made you pause. The noise you hated more than anything.
You turned your head slightly to side-eye him as he checked his beeper, "I have to go." He stood up from the couch with a sigh.
"Of course you do." You mumbled bitterly, before turning to walk away from him again.
"Don't do that (y/n), it's my job."
"And I'm your wife!" You shouted angrily - startling him as you turned around fully and he took notice to your puffy cheeks, and red eyes, "I'm your wife Anakin and I don't see you anymore, I've hardly seen you in a almost a year. We don't have sex, we don't go out on dates, you never talk to me anymore, and I'm always last on your list of importance!" You continued spilling your hurt feelings out as he stood there and listened, "I understand it's your job and I have always supported you. But you don't make any time for me anymore. You didn't even remember our anniversary this year, and you weren't here for my birthday. I ate alone and had to leave your food in the microwave." You cried, and much to your surprise, he had begun to cry too.
"Baby," He stepped closer to you, "I'm so sorry I haven't been present lately, but I have to go when they call."
"Even when you're here Anakin, you stay in the office - it's like you don't even want to be around me." You felt your own heart breaking for the hundredth time in the past twelve months.
He sighed, "It's not that I don't want to be around you, I have paperwork to do and-"
"I can't even remember the last time you actually spent time with me." You interrupted him, not caring about his excuses anymore. You were second in his life, and that's not something you could accept. It made you feel selfish, but it's what you wanted, no, it's what you needed.
He shook his head with a sigh, "I don't know what you want me to do (y/n), my job is important to me."
"And I'm not?" You asked in disbelief.
He immediately realized his mistake, "Of course you are that's not what I-"
"I can't do this anymore." You dropped your head down as the tears continued to flow. You couldn't believe you were saying this, but you were tired of no longer feeling important to your own husband. The person who vowed to always be there for you.
Anakin's heart dropped into his stomach, "What?"
You swallowed the lump in your throat, doing your best not to completely break down as you spoke your next words, "You clearly have more important obligations and you don't have time for a wife anymore. So I'm going to make life easier for you and just go, it won't be much of a difference anyway since I'm hardly in your life," Your voice cracked as you turned around to avoid his expression, "I want a divorce."
Anakin knew things were difficult right now, but he had only hoped it was just a rough patch and that you both would get through it. He didn't think you would resort to this, and the idea of not seeing you in bed every night, and kissing you as you slept when he got home - devastated him beyond belief.
"Wait, no please don't do this (y/n). I don't want a divorce, I love you." He begged for you to rethink your choice, his heart slowly cracking.
You kept your back to him, you knew that if you turned around to see his heart broken eyes, you might give in. But you were tired of being hurt, you were tired of being in second place, "I love you too, but I'm done Anakin." You whispered and walked away to pack a few bags for your time away from the home you bought together three years ago.
Anakin didn't follow you, he remained downstairs - crying heartbreakingly loud into his hands as he ignored the calls from the hospital.
You could hear him, and it pained you. But then you remembered the nights you cried, and he was never around to hold you like you wished he would.
You walked down the steps with your duffle bags in hand. You grabbed your keys and tried to leave, but there was something blocking your path.
"Please don't leave me, I don't want to live without you." He begged, cupping your cheeks as tears streamed down his, "Please baby, don't go. I'll do anything."
"I've been living without you for the past year Anakin," You backed away from his touch
- even though your heart begged for you to stay, "I'm tired of being in a one-sided relationship." You pushed past him while grabbing your keys, and rushing to your car - you threw your bags in the back and got in the car.
You then made the mistake of looking at him as he stood in the doorway. Your whole body hurt as you turned the car on, your eyes never leaving his. Then finally, you backed out of the driveway, and watched in pain as you saw your husband break down to his knees.
His world shattered as he watched the only woman he has ever loved leave him - wishing he could go back and do things differently.

"(y/n)?" Piett pulled you back to reality.
"Hm?" You looked up to him - not hearing anything he may have said previously.
He gestured to the papers, "Are you going to sign them? Or is there something you'd like to change?"
"Oh," You glanced back down, eyeing his signature. Then you noticed something next to it, a small wet spot that smudged the ink at the end of his last name, "Were you with him when he signed it?" You asked - gently running your finger over the smudge that was now dry. But you knew what it was, you knew he was crying as he signed it - he hated this whole thing. He begged you more than just that night to rethink your choice, this isn't something he wanted. He was only doing it because it's what you wanted.
"Yes I was." Piett responded
"How is he?" You slowly looked up to meet his eyes. Piett wasn't just his lawyer, they were actually friends - they met each other in college.
He sighed as he dropped his pen down, "Regretful, depressed, running out of sick time for work - misses you."
You nodded, grabbing the pen - preparing to sign your name. You missed him too, but you weren't sure if you could trust things to change. You were terrified of everything going back to how it was - then going through this process again. But.. you couldn't help that small bit of uncertainty that lingered over your head - because despite everything, you still loved him deeply, "I don't know how he did this." You choked back a sob as the pen hovered over the line hesitantly.
"It took him four hours and half a bottle of whiskey." Piett informed you, "Hence the sloppy writing and brown stained corner," He pointed to the obvious whiskey mark.
You sighed heavily and dropped the pen down while grabbing the papers, "I think I'll need to use the same method." You stood up from the chair, "Can I drop these off by the weekend?" You asked and he nodded, "Thanks." You mumbled as you turned and left his office.

Drunk - you ended up on the doorstep of a place you once called home.
Infuriated, you pounded on the door until it flew open aggressively by the occupant, "Who the fuck-oh." Anakin paused and his red eyes widened in surprise when he saw you, "What are you doing here?"
You hiccuped as you pushed the papers into his chest, "You signed them?" You asked in a tone dripping with disbelief.
He nodded as he took them from your grasp, "It's what you've been telling me you wanted for the past six months (y/n), so yes I signed them." He gave you attitude in retaliation to yours. Even though the sight of you here brought useless hope to his heart.
"But what if-" You paused as you eyed the house that you missed - the one filled with so many memories of laughter and love, "What if it's not what I want, or," You sighed heavily, "I don't know." You groaned in confusion, your eyes filling with tears.
You initially began drinking to help yourself grow the courage to sign the papers, but the drunker you got - the more that small lingering uncertainty grew and you began to rethink everything.
"I want you Ani, but I want to feel important again, I want to feel like I'm actually loved. I want you to come home at a reasonable hour so I don't sleep alone. I want you to take me on dates like you used to. I want sex, mind-blowing sex - you do remember when we used to do it all the time right? Now I feel like I'm a nun with cobwebs growing down there!" You shouted, and his brows raised, "I want my Anakin back, not Doctor 'I'm too busy for you' Skywalker. And if I can't have that then I'm walking." You pointed towards the road you just came down as you slurred your words - almost tripping.
Anakin dropped the papers down to the floor, his heart filled with hope, "Are you giving me another chance?"
"That depends," You poked his chest - you may have had more than half a bottle, "Can you actually make me a priority? Because if I come back only for you to throw me aside again-"
He immediately held your face in his palms - eyes filled with tears of joy, "Yes, my love. I swear on my life I will do things differently and make more time for you - you are the most important person in my life. Nothing means anything if you're not here." He pulled you into a tight hug, and you hugged him back tightly - inhaling his scent that you missed desperately, "I have vacation hours that I had been saving for you, and we can go anywhere you want, and do anything you want."
"I want us to re-new our vows first - before I move back in." You negotiated as you pulled away from the hug.
He nodded, "Anything for you." He crashed his lips to yours and you immediately kissed him back, feeling a familiar rush circulating through your body. He broke away from the kiss and caressed your cheeks with his thumbs, "What do you say we go clean out those cobwebs?" He asked with a smirk, his life now feeling complete again with you here.
Too drunk to remember your humorous rant, you tilted your head in confusion, "I don't get it, are there cobwebs on the ceilings again?"
He chuckled with a head shake, "On second thought - let's sober you up so we can repeat this conversation." He grabbed your hand and led you into the house, "What do you want?"
"Surprise me."
Hot chocolate it is.
