Chapter 2- Head Prefect Challenges
Draco's POV
"Awe, come on Drakeypoo, why won't you let me sit by you." Pansy says with a pout. "You know why, Pansy. I'm sorry, but to be blunt, I've never liked you like that and I don't think my feels are going to change any time soon." As soon as I say that last part Pansy begins to frown, but seems to have given up for now. I sigh in relief, wishing I had said that years ago. Before I get to enjoy my new found freedom from Pansy, a knock sounds on the door. With another sigh, I get up to open it. "Hello?" I ask when I see Neville and Luna standing there. "The headmistress would like to see you, Malfoy." Neville says with a forced smile. I nod, "Thank you, L-Neville." I say, trying to be cordial. I quickly make my way out my compartment, barely getting a goodbye out to my friends. I hurry down the train aisle and make it to the headmistress's compartment. I knock on the door and it opens to a smiling Professor McGonagall. "Hello, Mr. Malfoy. You are the first to arrive so I'm afraid you're going to have to wait before we start. " She says. I nod and she directs me to a seat. "So, Mr. Malfoy, how was your summer? I'm guessing it was better than the ones in past years?" She asks, the last part more quietly. I don't answer for a bit trying to figure out if I should be honest or not. Finally I answer, "It was good. I have to admit, even though he is my father, he deserved to be sent to Azkaban." I look down, avoiding McGonagall's eyes. She doesn't say anything and all to soon there is a knock at the door. I rise quickly and open up the door to see none other than Hermione Granger.
Hermione's POV
"Malfoy?!" I ask, bewildered. He nods and quickly looks down. Before his eyes flash down, I see a multitude of emotions swimming in his eyes. 'Regret and longing? It makes no sense. Why would Malfoy regret anything? He's a death eater for crying out loud!' I realize a little to late that I'm staring and I quickly walk over to my seat, keeping my eyes downcast. After a while, Professor McGonagall breaks the silence. "So, as you two know, you are this years Head Prefects. Your jobs won't be much different from a regular prefects, but it will be different..." She goes on about what a head prefect is meant to do, but I'm barely paying attention. "Now, since the school has been redone there are a few added rooms. One of which is your common room." McGonagall lets the information soak in and my eyes snap up, "WHAT?!?!" We yell at the same time. Malfoy and I look at each other in shock. "I have to share a dorm with him?!" I yell. McGonagall nods and I sink lower in my seat. Professor McGonagall talks again, this time I pay more attention. "Well, I think that this is enough shock for the moment. I will speak to you two after the feast. Good day, Ms. Granger and Mr. Malfoy." She says as she leads us to the door and we walk out.
Draco's POV
McGonagall walks us out of the room in to the trains corridor, where we now stand. Finally, I'm the one to say something. "Um, Granger?" I ask uncertainly. She looks at me in the eyes and my breath catches. I've never actually looked in to her eyes before. They are a beautiful brown color that anyone could easily get lost in. "What?" She finally asks as she looks away. It startles me out of my trance and I finally catch my breath again. "Um, well. I just wanted to say that I'm really sorry for the past years. I shouldn't have done half of the stuff I did to you, Harry, and Ron. Is there any way you can forgive me?" She looks at me and surprise crosses her face. "I forgive you, Mal- Draco." She says and gives a small smile. "Thank you, Gran- Hermione. I'll see you later?" I reply back. She nods and I walk back to my compartment. I don't know what came over me earlier, I actually felt something for Hermione. Hopefully it'll pass. I find my compartment and sit down. "So, we saw the mudblood walk down to McGonagall's compartment. Is she the Head girl?" Pansy snears. I nod. "Ugh, I feel horrible for you Draco. You'll have to take a bath, like, 3 times a day just to get rid of the mudblood stench." Pansy says. I look up at her sharply. "Don't ever call Hermione a mudblood ever again." I growl. Blaise and Pansy look at me in shock. "Hermione?!" Pansy whispers menacingly. I glare at her. "Yes, Hermione." I say back. Pansy looks like she's about to say something else but I walk out of the compartment before she gets the chance to.
Hermione POV.
I walk back to Harry and them with an extremely slow pace. Why does Draco have to be the head boy? I ask over and over again. When I get back to the compartment, I hesitate at the handle, but they already see me so I walk in. "So? Who's head boy?" Ginny asks. I look down and then back up at her. "Um, Malfoy is..." I trail off. Harry and Ron jump to their feet and start yelling. "Why would McGonagall choose him?!" "He's a bloody git!" Where a few things they said. "I have to share a common room with him." I then say quietly. They stop shouting and look at me. "If he does anything to you, I will kill him." Harry says, eyes blazing. "I know you will. I don't think he is going to do anything though. He seems different." I reply as both of their eyes widen in shock to what I just said. "I'll be the judge of that..." Ron says angrily as they both sit down. "Well, that went better than planned." I whisper to Ginny.
