Chapter 5 - First Class
You sat behind your desk, tapping your foot as you waited for the bell to ring. Your first class of the day was Midnight's old "Modern Hero Art History" course, which you honestly weren't sure was the best fit for you. You were in classroom 2-A, but because homeroom had been the block before this one, Aizawa was no where to be seen. The class wasn't too rowdy, mostly talking amongst themselves as they waited for class to begin. Just as the bell rang, you shut the classroom door and walked back up to the front.
"Good morning, class. I'm Ms. (L/N), hero name: Sun Ray. I'll be teaching Modern Hero Art History." You sat on the table at the front of the class room, letting your fingers curl around the edge of the desk and leaning forward. "Since it's the first day, I'll keep it easy. We'll go around, say our names, hero names, and... one thing you're looking forward to this semester."
Bakugo sat in the very front seat in the right-most row, so you gestured for him to start. He grumbled something about this being dumb and rolled his eyes. "Bakugo. Hero name: Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight. I'm looking forward to beating all of these extras and showing everyone that I'm the best hero in this stupid class."
You couldn't help but roll your eyes at the kid. He needed an attitude adjustment. Midoriya sat right behind the blonde and gave his introduction with a bright smile. After that, the entire class went around and it made its way back to you.
"What are you looking forward to, Ms. (L/N)?" Asui looked up at you.
"Getting to know everyone better and training with the teachers here! I'm excited to push the bounds of my body and quirk, while helping all of you grow into the most amazing heroes." You swung your feet back and forth in excitement.
"Can you show us your quirk? I've always wanted to see it in-person!" Midoriya asked, his eyes shining like stars at the idea of seeing your quirk.
You chuckled and gave a nod. "Sure. What would you like me to do?"
"You can make light into different things, right? Do that!" Kirishima's loud voice came.
"Good idea," you hummed and held out your hand. A long sword appeared in the middle of your palm, glowing a bright yellow. "I can control every aspect of it." You hummed, watching it shorten into a dagger, then into a bow, then disappear completely. "If anyone else tried to touch it, they'd burn themselves because it's concentrated energy."
"That's so cool!" Sero watched intently from his desk.
"Can you go invisible like me?" Hagakure was somewhat visible as she watched.
"Yep." You disappeared from view, flickering back a moment later. "I can also do this." You gestured to Iida and he disappeared, reappearing a second later.
"Woah! To other people?" Iida stared at his hands in awe.
"I can even," you lifted your hand towards Hagakure and the girl's invisibility was suddenly gone. There sat a normal girl, just like everyone else. "do that."
Hagakure squeaked and covered herself up, despite being in her normal uniform. Her cheeks went bright pink. "Ms. (L/N)!"
You laughed and let her go invisible again, "Sorry, Hagakure. All that was to say that I can control every aspect of light, I just have to learn how to."
Mineta was still staring at Hagakure's seat, drool sliding down the side of his mouth. You grimaced and flicked a finger at him, making a bright ball of light appear right in front of his eyes. "What? I can't see! I can't see!" He started shouted and thrashing about.
"Stop being a pervert and you'll be able to see again." You hummed, making all the girls snicker.
"Fine, I'm sorry!" You let the light disappear and Mineta settled back into his seat with a grumble.
"Anyway, you're all dismissed. Have a good first day!" You opened the door to let the students out to lunch.
Midoriya stopped by the door with his usual entourage: Ururaka and Iida. "Ms. (L/N), your quirk seems like it could be... so overpowered. It's so cool! But, most quirks come with some sort of backlash that we have to learn to manage. Does yours?"
You gave the younger boy a smile and leaned down, pressing your index finger to your lips. "That's a secret." You whispered, winking as you sent the three students on their way.
You gathered up your belongings and made your way down to the teachers lounge. The room was already full with the teachers, mostly goofing off instead of working. Aizawa was sitting at a computer with papers littering the desk ahead of him, while Yagi was sipping on some coffee with Yamada.
"(L/N)!" Mic near shouted as you came in.
"How has your first day been?" All Might asked.
You walked over to the two, your folders tucked beneath your arm. "Good, so far! I've only had class 2-A at this point, and I already got to know some of them, so that was easy. The rest of the classes will be new to me."
Aizawa was tapping his pen on a paper, previously annoyed at his two friends conversing. They had been incredibly distracting. He wanted to get this grading done, so he could take another nap before class, but their chatting was keeping that from happening. That is, until you walked in. All of a sudden, his ears were perked and he was listening to the conversation instead of attempting to work.
The mention of his class made him turn slightly in his chair. "How were they? They weren't being idiots, right?" He grimaced at the thought of them making your first day harder than it had to be.
"They were fine!" You gave the gloomy teacher your usual bright smile and he swore it lit up the room. "They wanted to see my quirk, so I showed them a few things."
"That's good." he breathed out, relieved that his students weren't a nuisance.
Yagi took a long sip of his coffee. "What do you have there?" He gestured to the folder under your arm.
"Oh, these? I just made some syllabi for my class, but I think I need to fix some things on them." You opened the folder and flipped through the one-page syllabi. "To be honest, I'd much prefer helping the students with their quirks and combat than teaching art history, but I guess both are important." A sigh fell from your lips.
Without thinking, Aizawa had begun to speak. "They're training today as their last class in the USJ. You can join us." The man hadn't even turned to look at you, but he could feel his thoughts getting jumbled. Why had he just done that? He was just being nice. That's all. Right?
"Really?" You couldn't help but clap your hands, almost dropping your papers. "Yay! Thank you, Aizawa!"
Toshinori grinned, "Yamada and I will be there too, so it'll be fun."
"I'm so excited!" You set your papers down at the computer next to Aizawa's. "But that means I should get this done so I don't have to worry about it later."
"Good idea." Aizawa hummed quietly, glancing at you from the corner of his eye. You were bouncing in your seat from excitement. A smile threatened to find his lips, so he dug his face into his scarf.
Yamada came over and leaned on the desk on Aizawa's opposite side, assessing the look on his best friend's face. A smirk dawned on his lips. "We need to talk later." He grabbed the stealth hero's shoulder before stalking off with the widest grin.
