21 :: Connections
"What are you two doing here?" Byeol shifted weights from one foot to the other nervously as the colour of her face drained away.
"Byeol... Oh my god... How are you?" cried the man.
"Don't act like you actually care for me. Come out of your snake skins and tell me what job do you have here? Don't avoid the topic by showing your fake emotional side."sneered the girl as she closed her eyes, leaving shaky breaths from her mouth. Tears pricked her eyes but she didn't let them fall. They didn't deserve being cried over.
"What's going on? Who are these people?" Beomgyu gave a puzzled look to everyone. No one had noticed when he had entered the scene quietly.
"Just two freaking irresponsible humans who gave birth to me." deadpanned Byeol making the others gasp at her choice of words.
"Honey, I know that we are at fault but why not start over, huh? We were young and were requested to serve in the government services. Please don't do this us."begged the mother as she wiped her eyes slowly.
"Wow... First you abandoned me without an explanation and now you expect me to regret something which I haven't done and follow you around. People aren't apologetic and that's what I hate the most. I survived all by myself, god knows how! Worked while being a student and had barely anything to eat and wear!"
"I understand where you are coming from but do think of us too. We are old and have nowhere to go! We... We had to respond to the government's orders and had no choice but to leave you. You were old enough to look after yourself."
"Sure... But you had to kick me out of my own home for that when it was not even sold away. You treated me like a parasite!"
"Byeol, listen..."
"I am done with this drama. We need to get going. I have picked out everything we need. Let's go back." Byeol turned towards her teammates with a strong will. She had no affection left for them and it was not like she had been treated like a princess before being kicked out.
The boys nodded softly before following Byeol out of the building. Well, probably that was a big mistake from their side because a few seconds later, a bullet hit Ryan on his left arm.
"Argh!" groaned Ryan as he collapsed on the floor, holding the area that was overflowing with crimson blood.
Byeol turned back to meet the eyes of her parents who held guns in their hands to her horror. Their face was twisted in a sinister grin and bloodshot eyes.
"They are a part of the cult. Dang it!"thought Byeol as she felt herself shake visibly.
Jae eon and Beomgyu aimed their guns at the couple quickly and shot them. They didn't think a second that they were her parents. They would be dead if they tried to let them go out of hesitation.
Three bullets each.
There lied the bloodied bodies of the two monsters painting the marble floor with shades of red. Byeol let out a whimper as tears welled up in her eyes, again. Beomgyu wrapped his arms around her and patted her back mumbling encouraging words.
"I... I am sorry... I had no choice..."staggered Beomgyu.
"I understand. I shouldn't cry over monsters , but why am I being like this?"Byeol let her tears wet Beomgyu's shirt which she clenched onto tightly.
"Let's go to the car. They were your parents afterall."
Jae eon did some first aid on Ryan and carried him back to the car. Beomgyu held onto a grove stricken Byeol's hand and dragged her after them. Jae eon came back to collect the things that were in the dead bodies' pockets. They might come handy later and provide them with useful information about the cult.
Bomi and Mi So were waiting for them infront of the corvette. Bomi, a medical student was helpful and treated Ryan's hand. Thanks to modern technology, treating a gunshot was a part of simple treatments which could be done in half an hour.
"How did he get shot?" questioned Bomi.
Jae won glanced at Byeol for a split second and narrated her the story.
"How amazing! I told you that this two are nothing but bearers of trouble and bad luck!"
"Bomi, not today. Byeol is grieving. Let's be understanding and be an adult."asked Jae eon with desperation painted all over his face." Let's go through these things now. I had managed to collect their belongings. Who knows where they might take us?"
He slowly placed the things on the table for everyone to see clearly. There were two IDs and various wrinkled papers.
"Lee Ji Hee and Lee Jae Wook. Both aged 52." read out Jae eon.
"What names did you just read out?" cried Mi So with her eyes that seemed to pop out of her sockets any second. All the eyes turned to her and she let out an inaudible whisper.
"So Mom really married Uncle..."
