08 :: Risky Spying

IT took a good whole week for Beomgyu to be back to normal. The continuous throwing up sessions had made him lose weight substantially. Byeol couldn't afford to visit a hospital because going there would be another hassle. All the citizens are supposed to be vaccinated and taking Beomgyu there would probably result in a serious enquiry. She wasn't sure how to handle that. Beomgyu had no digital citizen card or registered fingerprint.

Finding a good house and moving into it was an option she had lost. The landlady had called the repairing robot from the nearby repair shop to fix the ceiling.

She took care of him in the best ways she could. Vomitting wasn't what concerned her. The coming out of blood was something she couldn't understand. She considered the possibilities of him having terminal illnesses but he didn't show other symptoms of having any.

All she knew was that,Beomgyu woke up one day all fit and fine with his energy back again. Maybe the sudden time travel was giving him some side effects for the time being. He seemed clueless too.

On a fine night, while slurping a bowl full of warm chicken soup,Beomgyu decided to remind Byeol of the thing that was long forgotten because of his out of the blue illness.

"Aren't we going to find out more about that Ryan guy?"

Byeol looked at him with eyes full of amusement. He seemed to be more interested in whether her neighbour was innocent than his own health.

"Relax. We can check that later. You aren't completely fine right now. Focus on yourself first. Don't be stressed about him."

"Listen...I am completely fine right now. We shouldn't take that risk of letting this matter slip away. Let's..."

"Hey...Enough... Just go back to bed if you are done eating."

Beomgyu rolled his eyes in annoyance and put his bowl into the sink making a loud clamour intentionally to show his aggravation.Byeol glanced at him once and looked away as she sighed. He was behaving like a vinegar tempered teen. She had been fussed about how to run the expenses she had suddenly stumbled upon. Meeting ends every month wasn't possible for her.

Her plate was almost empty. She riveted her tired eyes on the porcelain dish. All it had was a half burnt toast and egg poach. She had given up on providing for herself since Beomgyu had been bedridden. He needed much more nutrients than she did. Looking at the mirror scared her. All she could find was a clear underweight girl with hair that wasn't meant to flex about and dark circles looking back at her.

Her youth was slowly fading away.

"Should I go back to work? Will Mark take me back in the team?"

Her mind was in a mess. She wasn't ready to face that creep again. She never opened up about her traumatic experience. The fear and disgust was eating her up inside. Every night she seemed to have nightmares. Even in her dreams, that old hag's eyes leered upon her body.

Was she depressed? No it can't be. She was vaccinated against it a long time ago. But she wasn't quite aware of how empty she felt. The bathroom mirror and her pillow knew her better than everyone else. The big world scared her.Between the well dressed privileged, she felt naked on a stormy day.

Beomgyu didn't seem to notice her and the plight she was in. He must have been living a good life in his time. She felt bad for pushing him away but she had no solution for the trouble she was going through. How much longer was she going to keep that boy along with her?

Beomgyu was in the verandah. He was looking at the ochre house across the lane. Ryan was out too. He was admiring the trumpet creepers that were adorning his balcony. He hadn't taken a notice of the boy who was observing him in the dark since the beginning. Beomgyu had made up his mind to find out the salty truth himself. He just needed some proofs to have his points taken in consideration and believed by Byeol.

That girl seemed to be getting on his nerves every single day. He appreciated her efforts and was grateful for taking a complete stranger like him in but her attitude was something he really couldn't stand. She needed to learn some basic etiquettes about life and behaviour towards others.

Beomgyu gasped loudly as he noticed Ryan opening his brush case infront of the canvas. He didn't seem to bring that leather one. What was that thin red glass container in his hand containing?

Ryan poured the thick crimson liquid from the carafe onto his palette and ran a big brush over it. He was painting with blood on his canvas with a big satisfactory smile. Beomgyu gulped as he quickly took a picture with a Polaroid camera and rushed indoors frantically. He needed to dig up more.

That guy was a psychopath.
