05 :: Bloodied Dagger
BEOMGYU was rummaging through the cupboard. There was not a single thing that was arranged in the house. Jokes on him. He was not a person who had everything at their respective places back at home. Must be karma.
He flinched at the sudden sound of thunder rumbling. Walking towards the window , he was greeted by a cold gush of wind. He watched drops of crystal rain dropping from the sky that was loomed with dark grey clouds. The milky moon was hidden today. He closed the windows to stop the rain from getting inside.
It was amazing how nature had its own way of showing peace in every season of its. Sometimes, it rebelled like a young adolescent wanting to destroy the world.
The sound of the rain pattering against the windows was such a treat to his ears. He took a seat on a chair as he peeled onions while humming a tune. His peaceful nature therapy was interrupted by a ear piercing bellow from upstairs.
"Byeol? Are you alright?" he cried as he put away the knife and onions and ran frantically towards Byeol's room. He didn't bother to knock and went into the room.
"I - that..." she murmured as she pointed her finger at small chunks of the ceiling that was resting on the floor. The room was being rained upon as it had lost a considerable portion of its roof. Beomgyu sighed as he took of his jacket and covered a panic stricken Byeol.
He pulled her downstairs and gave her a hug, rubbing his hands in circles on her bag. She was panting heavily.
"We need to move. We can't possibly stay here all night."
"Where would we go at this hour? We can just use the rooms downstairs."
"What if this ceilings end up on our head tonight? This is way more serious than you think. If I am not wrong , you were almost working or lazing around when that darned ceiling collapsed. Glad that it wasn't on your head."
"That's true... How did you know?"
" I am Sherlock Holmes."
"What the -"
"Let's stay over at Ryan's tonight. We can't take the risk. It's for the very best we can do right now."
"No no - "
"Let's not argue, okay?"
"But -"
Beomgyu practically shut Byeol up by stuffing an apple in her mouth. He dragged her along with him after grabbing two umbrellas and a few spare clothes. Locking the door,he turned around to meet a frazzled Byeol who seemed to be trying to cool herself down. He let out a chortle seeing her.
When Ryan Ferrari opened the door after ringing the doorbell couple of times, they were soaking wet. It was pouring cats and dogs. Byeol was holding Beomgyu's hand to calm herself down. The sky was showing some good and scary show of lightning every now and then.
"How may I help you?"enquired Ryan as he raised a brow eyeing both of them.
"Umm... Actually we live in the house opposite to yours and majority of the ceiling collapsed today. Could we please stay at yours for this night? We are helpless since we don't know when the rest is gonna come down."
"Sure!Come in!" cried the handsome swain as he grinned widely. Byeol sighed out of relief. She was glad that he was being friendly. Her heart was in a mess. It was her first time seeing him so close. And to be honest, she was practically glad that Beomgyu didn't pay an ear to her silly protests.
They were handed some towels to dry themselves. Byeol was sure of the fact that she probably looked like a tomato when his fingers grazed against hers when he gave her a towel. Changing into different clothes , she came out to see both of the guys talking to each other. They seemed to get along already.
Ryan's house was a little better as compared to them. His house wasn't shabby. The interior and furniture looked aesthetic. He must be someone who paid great attention to what surroundings he lived in. In the middle of the room stood a big canvas. Some brushes and a palette was kept on the small table beside it. He was probably drawing when they interrupted him with the doorbells. His clothes had some splotches of red paint too.
"Wow!You must be an artist!" exclaimed Beomgyu. His nature of an art appreciator was coming out seeing it.
"I am. I draw for making a living."
"That's so cool!Woah..."
Beomgyu advanced towards the canvas admiring the portrait.
"Do you paint only with the red colour?"
"Yes. I do. It's my unique painting style."
"That's amazing! But don't you think the artwork is a little... grotesque?"
Byeol elbowed him with a look of embarassment and surprise owing to his comment.
"I believe we can always find beauty in everything. You are right. The painting depicts gore which not everyone would find the real meaning in. My customers love the idea of mine."
"I see..."muttered Beomgyu as he stared at the portrait with eyes that refused to leave it.
"Are you always this quiet,Miss?" questioned Ryan noticing Byeol quiet.
"Umm... Yeah..."Byeol mumbled as she flashed a shy grin. Ryan broke into fits of laughter.
"Don't be scared. You are looking at me as if I might have you for dinner. Speaking of which ,did you guys have dinner? I was thinking of making spaghetti."
"Sure! We couldn't manage to eat dinner because of the roof."
Ryan smiled and went towards the kitchen leaving his neighbour duo to make themselves comfortable.
Dinner was fun. Atleast for Beomgyu and Ryan. They kept discussing about stuffs which Byeol couldn't manage to get herself into. She ate her dinner in silence glancing at her crush every now and then with the corner of her eyes.
Ryan offered them the bedroom but they protested and took the living room. Beomgyu made Byeol sleep on the sofa and he took the floor.
Surprisingly , Beomgyu couldn't fall asleep. He twisted and turned as the clock ticked slowly. Byeol was fast asleep. She had a real talent in the department of sleeping all day long. He got up slowly and walked towards the canvas.
"He's got so many supplies of artwork."
His fingers ran through the different brushes that were lying on the table. Ryan didn't arrange them before going to sleep. Different shades of red bejewelled the once white palette. He decided to put the brushes back to its container.
"Is this the case where he put his brushes?" wondered Beomgyu as he unzipped a medium sized leather bag.
To his bewilderment, the case was full of knifes. All had dried up blood on them.
