The Lore
Hey guys! If you're looking for a new fandom or something, the Calamity fandom is by far one of the most unique. It'd be awesome to get more people interested in it!
So, let's start with lore. Part of what makes Calamity so unique is that it doesn't actually have solid lore. Rather, it changes with each person's experience with it. With that, I will share my take and summarization on Calamity's lore and see if it interests you. Hope you enjoy!
There is a name that strikes fear into the hearts of those who hear it. Yharim, the Jungle Tyrant. He conquered many lands, and all fell easily before him. Countless innocent lives were taken by his hands. Hated by many, Yharim ruled with an iron fist, and he would go to extreme measures to get his way. But everyone starts somewhere. Yharim was not the cruel tyrant he is now long ago.
It all began when a renowned archer found a temple in the jungle. Exploring the temple and killing any monsters that dared approach her, the archer eventually found a strange egg in the temple. Returning to her home, the archer decided that it would make a good present for her son, Yharim. He happily accepted the egg. With his elder brother gone, along with her mother due to her many missions, Yharim lacked much company, so he mostly stayed near the egg. He grew fascinated with it, and would tend to it as much as possible. As the days passed, Yharim wondered what the egg would hatch into. Days became weeks, and he slowly started to grow disheartened on whether the egg would hatch at all.
As the boredom was killing the 13-year old Yharim, he was excited to hear that his brother had finally come home. Except the brother was a murderer. He had killed many people, and due to the government's harsh laws, the whole family was to be executed in the underworld. Yharim was terrified, and tightly clung onto his egg as the brother was to be executed first. As he started shivering, a nearby guard grew irritated with him and grabbed the egg, tossing it into the magma below. Yharim was desperately trying to control his sobbing to no avail as the rest of his family suffered the same fate as the egg. Finally, it was his turn. As he was about to be pushed off, everyone noticed a bubbling from the lava.
What the guards failed to realize was that the lava did not kill the egg, instead speeding up the incubation process to incredible levels. Immediately, a ferocious dragon shot out of the magma and saved Yharim from his unfortunate demise, with compassion and loyalty to his father. Badly burned and filled with rage, Yharim was conforted by his faithful companion before he commanded to be taken to the jungle, with intent on a new power and order rising up. The corrupt leaders of the jungle were killed off by Yharim and his dragon, Yharon (ego much), and eventually, he finally took over the jungle, establishing a new order. Unfortunately, Yharim didn't stop there.
Yharim, with a broken heart and many scars, built a huge army, and gained many powerful allies. He attempted to clone Yharon, but ended up with strange birds that reproduced unnaturally fast. He decimated the underworld and the oceans in his fury. Anyone in his way was killed with ease. And so began the reign of the Jungle Tyrant. Nothing could stop him or his forces. Or so it seemed.
From nowhere, a man with no name started slaying monsters, crafting powerful gear. Eventually the man grew strong enough to defeat horrifying abominations. Even as the man started growing more powerful than many people, Yharim had no clue he even existed. It was only when the man destroyed the weaker clone of his most powerful sorceress, Calamitas, that Yharim finally took notice. However, he merely ignored it. The man killed off more of Yharim's forces, and soon harnessed the power of the cosmos.
Yharim started to grow concerned when the man destroyed the Profaned Guardians, spirits of rock and holy fire. Later on, he had managed to summon Providence, the Profaned Goddess, out of the remains of the Guardians. Providence, a being of light and darkness, hoped ti cleanse the world of desire, spreading pyroclasmic genocide once she had gotten enough power from charging up in the Sun. However, she was summoned too early by the man, who figured out how to exploit her combined weakness and fury, killing her.
Yharim was now fearful of this man, now called "The Unnamed Hero" by many people, hoping he would put an end to Yharim's reign. But before he could act, the man started using the remains of Providence to summon the Sentinels of the Devourer, who were also looking for Providence to kill her. All three were slain, and their master, the Devourer of Gods, took notice. A gigantic dimemsional worm that consumed deities to grow in power, he thought that killing the Unnamed Hero would be a cakewalk. The Devourer's own arrogance would prove to be his downfall, as he was slain too.
By now Yharim was positively terrified of the Unnamed Hero, and he knew it was time to act. He sent some of his forces along with Yharon to finally kill him. Later on, Yharim's forces returbed to him crippled and left with few among them, and Yharon was somewhat injured. Yharim decided to regather his army and heal his dragon before trying again. This time, his forces were decimated and Yharon wound up dead. That night was the first time Yharim had come close to crying in years.
Filled with unspeakable hatred for the Unnamed Hero, Yharim decided to pull out his ace- the Brimstone Witch, Calamitas. She was quite possibly the most powerful witch of all time. She could evaporate huge seas and defeat entire armies with ease. Her power was untold of. And yet, upon their fateful meeting, Calamitas was maimed by the Unnamed Hero, who had come dangerously close to death himself. Yharim was shocked. His most powerful force, unable to fight any longer.
Soon, the Unnamed Hero went after his final target- Yharim himself. Everyone had faith in the terrifyingly powerful hero to kill Yharim, to bring peace to the lands once again. Alas, it wasn't meant to be. That very day, the Unnamed Hero was finally killed at the hands of Yharim. His kingdom was safe, no one would question his rule now.
However, although the Unnamed Hero had failed, he had still had a lasting effect on the tyranny. Yharim's forces were demolished, the stability slowly crumbling. Although no one had escaped the Jungle Tyrant's grasp, the Unnamed Hero had filled them with hope, hope that one day, Yharim would finally fall, and the next era would show its face to the world.
Hope I explained that well enough. Is it interesting? I mean, I would hope so...
Anyway, if you are interested in the Calamity fandom, why not comment on what else you'd like to see here about it! I'm always open to ideas! Thanks for reading this, and hope you join the fandom!
