AN INEVITABLE INTRUDER

CHAPTER ELEVEN

NAINA

I can't believe that I hugged him... All the hugs have been initiated by me... Why can't I control myself when I'm around him??? "Because you can't resist him Naina... You love him... You've fallen for the Khadoos Maheshwari...", my inner voice screamed... I closed my eyes reminiscing his warmth... My cheeks automatically turned red at the reminder...

I suddenly jerked when Swati shouted in my ear, "Naina... Naina... So gayi kya??? Kab se main aur Preeti tumhe aawaaz de rahe hai... Aur tere gaal yun laal kyun ho rakhe hai???" I couldn't find my voice... So, I just kept looking at them... Preeti kept her palm on my forehead & I didn't understand what she was doing...

"Isse bukhar toh nahi hai... Naina... Tumhari tabiyat toh thik hai na??? Agar tabiyat thik nahi lag rahi toh tumhe Shimla nahi aana chahiye...", Preeti suggested looking concerned for me... "Nahi... Main... Main... Thik hun... Bas thoda mummy-papa ko miss kar rahi thi...", finally I found my voice & I lied... This was the half-truth though... I was missing my parents but I was missing HIM too...

"Chal... Tu fresh ho jaa... Hume dus minute mein nikalna hai... Hum neeche wait kar rahe hai... Jaldi aa jaana...", Swati said while walking out of my room with Preeti... I started taking deep breaths to calm myself... What was I doing??? I can't let them know about our little secret... I freshened up quickly & joined them to leave for the airport...

I was surprised to see the entire staff at the airport ready to board the flight... Everyone seemed elated for the trip... I saw Kamya walking towards me, "Hiii... Naina... All set for your first trip???" I smiled genuinely at her, "Heyyy... Kamya... Yesss... I'm all ready to go... actually very much excited... Pehli baar India mein kahin ghumne jaa rahi hun..."

She smiled, "That's great... I'm sure you will love it... And you will surely enjoy amongst us..." She looked around the others, "Inn sabko toh aadat ho gayi hai aise trips ki... Tumhe bhi aadat ho jaayegi har saal... You know Naina... Everyone waits for this trip, so they could relax & enjoy... I feel lucky to be a part of this wonderful organisation... I haven't seen any company offering this to their employees..."

"You're right Kamya... I'm looking forward to this trip & I'm sure I would enjoy it too with all of you... Ummmm... Kamya... Can we be friends??? Obviously, I'm leaving this choice to you..." She came forward & offered her hand, "Friends it is..." I happily pulled her in for a hug... "Main apne friends ko gale lagaati hun... Handshake kaafi formal lagta hai..." And we both laughed out... I saw my friends raising their eyebrows at me but I neglected them & continued talking to Kamya...

Kamya left me saying that she needed to check on the other staff members who are yet to arrive... Swati & Preeti immediately joined me, "Arey waahhh... Hume itne saal ho gaye iss company ko join kiye hue par Kamya ne kabhi humse dosti nahi ki... Aur ab dekho... Naina se ek jatke mein dosti kar li... Waahhh... Naina... Tussi great ho... Tumhare aate hi bohot se parivartan hone lage hai yahaan... Kyun Swati???", Preeti said in a teasing tone...

"Haannn bilkul... Naina ke aate hi bohot log badalne lage hai... Jaise ki..." I cut her sentence midway before she could take HIS name... "Bas... Bohot ched liya mujhe... Dekho... Boarding shuru ho gayi hai... Hume jaana chahiye..." I diverted their minds effectively... And we joined the que for boarding the flight...

Preeti & Swati were standing ahead of me & were conversing with Munna & Pandit... My mobile beeped with a message, "Hey Beautiful... Meeting abhi khatam hui hai... I won't be able to reach the airport on time... Maine already dusri flight ki booking kar li hai... Tum sab ke saath aage jao... Main Nanu ko ghar drop karke airport pohonch jaunga..."

I was sad that he won't join us but was happy too that he would reach Shimla soon... When we settled in the plane, Munna & Pandit informed that Sameer would follow us in the next flight... I didn't let them know that I was fully aware of Sameer's plans... I already had messaged Sameer to come safely...

We reached Chandigarh airport after two hours... There were no direct flights to Shimla... We had to travel by road to Shimla which would take more than three hours... We all were waiting for the other staff members to get into the designated buses... There were four buses in total... We were total of 150 people who were going to Kufri... Kufri was a small hill station just an hour away from Shimla... The cottages were already reserved for us in a resort there...

When everyone settled down in the bus, I, Swati & Preeti were left... I didn't know why we didn't get into any of the buses... Munna & Pandit also joined us in the next five minutes after the buses left one after the other... I turned to them, "Hum sab unke saath kyun nahi gaye???"

"Kyunki maine kahaa tha...", I heard HIS voice behind me... Everyone smiled after seeing Sameer... I was more than happy to see him... It was only few hours that he wasn't around me but still I missed his presence... I realized that my feelings for him were growing fast... I slowly turned to face him... There he was standing in the same grey suit that I had selected for him that day... He kept his luggage down & walked to us... He hugged Munna & Pandit & then side hugged Preeti & Swati...

He stood in front of me, "Maine hi kaha tha inhe rukne ke liye... Hum sab saath jaayenge car se..." We both didn't blink at all... Our eyes locked & my heart skipping its beats after drowning in his dark orbs... "Chalein... Car kabse khadi hai... Maine sab saaman bhi rakhwa diya hai...", Munna broke our spell & we all walked towards the waiting car... Sameer opened the back door of the seven-seater Audi & I went first... He joined me at the back seat... The middle seats were taken by Swati, Preeti & Pandit... Munna sat at the passenger seat & our drive commenced...

We all kept chitchatting for half an hour or so and after that, one by one, everyone drifted to sleep... I closed my eyes too... Sitting next to Sameer tonight was a different feeling all together... I've sat in his car several times but tonight was different... He was sitting next to me... This closeness felt very intimate to me & was affecting me a lot...

I couldn't see anything outside as it was too dark... "Baahar kya dekh rahi ho???", Sameer whispered softly... "Kuch nahi... Waise bhi andhere mein kya dikhega???" He chuckled softly... I turned to him, to see his face in the dark... There was a little light switched on inside the car... I saw him smiling at me... "Aapne kuch khaaya tha Sameer???" I asked...

He didn't say anything & I got my answer... "Kyun nahi khaaya???" "Ummm... woh actually agar khaane ke liye ruk jaata toh flight miss ho jaati... Waise maine ek sandwich khaaya tha flight mein...", he explained... "Ek sandwich se kya hota hai???", I kept looking into his eyes... "Mujhe flight pakadne ki jaldi thi... Aur usse bhi jyada tumse milne ki jaldi thi..." I lowered my eyes as I could no longer hold on to his intense gaze...

"Naina... Mujhe mere har sawaal ka jawaab milega na???", he whispered softly in my ear... I shuddered feeling his hot breath on my ear... He didn't move & continued, "Bolo na... Dogi na jawaab mujhe???" All the butterflies in my stomach had started dancing the moment he'd shifted closer to me... And now this proximity was making my legs turn to jelly...

I took in a sharp breath before answering him, "Haannn... Main har sawaal ka jawaab dungi... Shimla mein..." My last words came out in a mere whisper... If I turned even a little, I would kiss him, that was for sure... My control of staying away from him was snapping... I couldn't risk that here, in the presence of everyone in the car...

Unknown to my reactions to his closeness, he continued, "Sacchi... Sabhi sawaalon ka jawaab dogi, jo maine pehle poocha tha aur jo main aage poochne waala hun..." I took another deep breath, "Haannnn..." "Toh meri aankhon mein dekhkar jawaab do Naina... Toh hi mujhe yakeen hoga..." I slowly turned & looked in his eyes, "Haannn... Ab toh maan lijiye..."

He just nodded & his eyes slowly moved to my lips... I shivered after seeing the intensity of his eyes... My lips quivered in response & he closed his eyes... I knew that he was controlling his urges too... I moved a little closer to him... Our faces were just an inch away... The driver honked & the moment was broken... We moved away instantly as everyone woke up with a start... I looked outside into the dark to calm my haywire heartbeats...

"Sameer... Hum sab so gaye the kya???", Pandit asked in his sleepy voice... "Haannn... Aisa hi lagta hai ki hum sab so gaye the...", he lied efficiently, & winked at me... He was an epitome of naughtiness... He took my hand in his, pressing it softly... "Mujhe toh neend aa rahi hai... Thak gaya hun... Toh main so raha hun... Jyada aawaaz mat karna tum sab... Samjhe..."

All laughed at his antics & everyone closed their eyes as all were sleepy too... I don't know when I slept too... The driver honked again... When I opened my eyes, I felt a weight on my shoulder... I turned a little & saw Sameer had kept his head on my shoulder & was in a deep slumber... Munna & Pandit were awake & they just smiled looking at us... My hand was still in his...

I couldn't breathe once I was fully awake... His breath on my neck was creating a lot of havoc in my body & on the side, even Swati & Preeti had woken up... No one turned around to see us... They continued their talks in whispers which I couldn't decipher at all... The driver stopped the car at a small tea stall for us to freshen up...

Our friends got down from the car giving me knowing smiles... How should I wake up Sameer was the first thought in my mind??? I didn't want to disturb his sleep... He must be so tired & exhausted too... The next thought was what would our friends think about this??? But all my thoughts vanished the moment when Sameer woke up & his lips unintentionally touched my neck... I froze... I didn't move at all & neither did he move for a whole minute...

He got away from me instantly, when he realized his position... "Wohhh... Wohhh... I'm sorry... Wohhh... Mujhe nahi pataa main kaise... Yeh... yeh..." He kept on stuttering & I controlled my laughter... "Naina... I'm sorry...", he said lowering his head... Ohhh... God... How am I going to handle him ahead??? "Sameer... Aapko sorry bolne ki zarurat nahi hai... Jo bhi hua woh neend mein hua... So, its ok... Aap itni gehri neend mein the ki mera mann hi nahi hua aapko uthaane ka... Toh please... Sorry mat boliye...", I said looking at his lowered head...

"Sameer... Meri taraf dekhiye...", And he finally looked at me... "Sab thik hai Sameer... Ab baahar chalein... Sab chai pee rahe hai..." I said pointing towards our friends who were ordering tea at the small tea shop... He agreed & we got out of the car too... "Toh mahashay ki neend poori hui kya???", teased Munna... And I looked away so that no one would notice my crimson cheeks in the dark...

Sameer glared at them & everyone broke into fits of laughter... I couldn't control the smile that broke on my face when Sameer looked at me... He finally walked away to freshen up & I took the water bottle from Swati & drank it in a single sip as I was damn thirsty... Sameer returned & Pandit offered him water & then tea...

It was very much cool there... I was almost shivering when Sameer softly offered his suit to me, "Isse pehen lo... Thand nahi lagegi..." I was about to say no but he again said, "Pehen lo Naina..." I didn't deny him & wore it without uttering a word... Once we finished our teas, we settled in the car... Pandit asked the driver, "Bhaiyaa... aur kitna time lagega pohonchne mein???" The driver informed that we would reach the cottages in Kufri in the next half an hour...

We all kept talking till we reached the resort... When we got down from the car, I saw our staff members being escorted to their allotted cottages... I was impressed with the way the trip was arranged & how all the employees were treated like a family... The attendants asked for our names & then escorted us to our assigned cottages... I was more than surprised to know that we all were allotted the same cottage... On the way to our cottage, I saw that all the cottages were similar... At the entrance of each cottage, the names of the residents were mentioned... I was beyond impressed with the hospitality of the resort...

Once we entered our cottage, I was in awe... The cottage was beautiful... It was in the wee hours of the morning that we had reached Kufri... Everyone was still sleepy so everyone walked to their allotted rooms... Yesss... Every room had a name sticker stuck on the door... There were four rooms on the ground floor & two on the first floor... Swamun's & Preedit's rooms were downstairs, which meant my & Sameer's rooms were upstairs...

Everyone carried their luggage to their rooms & we too silently dragged our luggage upstairs... Our rooms were just on the opposite sides... I was about to open the door to my room when I heard Sameer's voice, "Tumne itinerary toh dhyaan se padh li thi na... Sharp nau baje breakfast hai aur fir poora din baahar hi niklega... Toh acche se garam kapde pehen lena... Yahaan thand bohot hogi... Aur... Aur..." "Aur kya Sameer???", I asked in confusion... He came closer & whispered, "Kisne kahaa ki jo bhi car ki back seat mein hua wohhh neend mein hua..." And he was gone the other instant...

I stood there in silence till the meaning of his words sank in... "Really...", I thought to myself & blushed while touching my neck where he had kissed me intentionally...

SAMEER

I closed the door of my room & smiled widely at what I had just told Naina... I laid back on the bed & thought back of what I did in the car... Naina had slept & I kept looking at her face... I had held her hand but that wasn't enough for me, so I deliberately moved closer to her & kept my head on her shoulder... I don't know when I slept after that... Her fragrance was intoxicating...

I was awake when the driver had stopped the car at the tea stall... but I wanted to feel her close, I wasn't ready to let her go yet... So, I didn't move & kept pretending that I was fast asleep... I knew my friends had already seen us in this position & had walked out of the car silently... We were alone in the car & that was what I wanted... I opened my eyes & saw Naina lost in her thoughts... I slowly moved & kissed her neck... If she was the one who had initisated all the hugs, I would be the one to initiate all the kisses...

I didn't move for a whole minute trying to gauge her reaction but she sat there still in shock... I wanted to laugh at her reaction but somehow pretended that I was sorry about the kiss, which I wasn't & lowered my head... Her words were so soothing after that... When we reached our cottage, I was happy that we were given rooms opposite each other... I had already instructed the manager of the resort that all our friends would be allotted the same cottage & also said them in clear words that Naina would be given the room next to mine...

I was very much happy & proud of my plans so far... Naina was in for many surprises in this trip... I had planned all my moves... I knew what I wanted & I was sure I would get that by the end of this trip... "Naina..." I said looking at my mobile screen which had her picture as the wallpaper... I kept my mobile on my heart & dozed off...

I got up to loud banging on my door... It took a while for me to realize that I was in the cottage & not in my own bedroom... I got up from the bed & opened the door. My besties were standing at the door with wide smiles plastered on their faces... They pushed me aside & entered my room.

"Sameer... Tere paas sirf aadha ghanta hai ready hone ke liye... Saadhe aath baj gaye hai... Nau baje breakfast shuru ho jayega aur fir uske baad hume hamare sab employees ke saath baat karni hai... Hamara ritual hai na bhai..." I looked at the mobile & rushed to the bathroom to get ready for the day... I heard my friends laughing & then heard the sound of the door closing... They were gone...

I was done with my bath in the next ten minutes, when I again heard the sound of my door... I just shouted, "Pandit please mera bag khol kar rakh... Main bas abhi baahar aa raha hun..." I just opened the bathroom door & was mesmerised seeing the view in front of me... Naina was standing in front of me in a light pink floral Anarkali dress... She had worn a long coat over it... Her hair were wet & she had kept it open... She had opened my bag & was searching something...

I took few steps towards her & she turned as if sensing my presence... She froze in her spot & I realized the reason behind it... I was just in a towel wrapped around my waist... Her eyes moved from my face to my bare wet chest... I was enjoying her nervousness & she stuttered, "Wohhh... Main... Main... Yahi bataane aayi thi ki sab neeche aapka intezaar kar rahe hai..."

I took slow steps towards her but she didn't move... "Tum mere bag mein kya dhoondh rahi thi???", I asked her eyeing my bag... "Wohhh... Main aapke liye kapde nikaal rahi thi..." I smiled at her answer... "Toh ruk kyun gayi... Mere liye roz tum hi pehenne ke liye kapde nikaal ke rakh diya karna ab se..." She looked at me & asked, "Kyun???"

I walked closer to her & spoke, "Pehle mere 'Kyun' ka jawaab de do fir main tumhare kyun ka jawaab dunga... Ab chalo... Jaldi karo... Warna late ho jaayega..." I said moving more closer to her... She turned instantly & rummaged in my bag & placed a fresh set of clothes on the bed... She was about to run away from me, when I held her hand & pulled her to me... She landed on my wet chest with a thud... Her fingers curled on my chest & I wrapped my hands around her waist...

"Naina... Tum aaj bohot acchi lag rahi ho... Aur yeh pink colour tum par bohot suit karta hai... Mann kar raha hai ki...", She blushed listening to my praising & covered my mouth with her hand... "Bas... ab jaldi se taiyaar ho jaiye... Sab wait kar rahe hai neeche..." She was about to walk out, when I pulled her again... "Pehle mere 'Kyun' ka jawaab do, phir tum jaa sakti ho..."

"Sameer... Koi aa jaayega... Mujhe chodiye naa..." I chuckled & said huskily, "Naina... Jawaab de dogi toh main tumhe jaane dunga... Ummm... Par chodne ki baat mat karo kyunki main nahi chodne waala tumhe..." I could see colour rising on her cheeks & she lowered her eyes, "Sameer... Please... Jaane dijiye naa..." I tightened my hold on her & said, "Pehle jawaab... Tumne kahaa tha ki tum mujhe Shimla mein jawaab dogi... Toh ab hum yahaan Shimla mein hai... Aur ab mujhe mere 'Kyun' ka jawaab chahiye..."

She exhaled, "Sameer... Main aapke har 'Kyun' ka jawaab de dungi par abhi nahi... Please samajhiye naa..." She pouted so cutely that it was impossible for me to keep my hands off her... I tucked her hair behind her ear, "Thik hai... Main tumhe sirf isliye jaane de raha hun kyunki hume late ho raha hai... Par mujhe aaj raat ko mere har sawaal ka jawaab chahiye... Samjhi madam..." She nodded & I let her go... She ran away leaving me chuckling at her behaviour...

I dressed up quickly & joined the others downstairs in the next few minutes... Everyone was looking at me in appreciation as I walked to them... "Sab aise kya dekh rahe ho???" "Bhai... Tu aaj bohot hi handsome lag raha hai... Tujhe aaj tak sirf suits mein dekha hai office mein aur ghar mein toh tu t-shirts aur track pants mein hi hota hai... Aaj tujhe aise dekhkar mujhe college ke din yaad aa gaye yaar...", Pandit said dreamily...

"Sach mein Sameer... Bohot hot aur handsome lag rahe ho aaj??? Kya special hai iss baar huh???", Preeti teased & Swati too joined her, "Khaas toh hai yeh trip kisi ke liye, kyun Sameer???" "Oyee... Frockwala Pandit... Mere dost ko jyada tang mat karo... Warna hume iss cottage mein nahi rehne dega... Waise Sameer... Tumhari packing kisne ki thi iss baar??? Special thanks usse kehna chahiye... Usne hamare purane Sameer ko hamare saamne khada kar diya..."

I saw Naina fidgeting with her dupatta... I glanced at all my friends, "Ab late nahi ho raha breakfast ke liye???" They saw the time & rushed out of the house... I chuckled looking at my friends... Naina was still standing there... "Madam... Chalein... Late ho raha hai..." She nodded... As we walked out of the cottage, I whispered, "Thank You Naina... Aaj inn kapdon mein main ek alag hi sukoon mehsoos kar raha hun..."

We walked towards the hall where breakfast arrangements were done... We all finished the breakfast & went to the garden where we had arranged for some exciting games & exercises for all the staff... We took the lead & acknowledged each & every employee there with giving them gifts & certificates... We also announced some promotions that were done every year at all levels in our company...

It was almost afternoon when we finished with our first session of acknowledgements... Everyone was back to the hall for lunch & after lunch, we all played some games... All the people were divided into different groups. The same group carried out the games for the whole day... It was fun & everyone enjoyed playing them...

Once everyone was done with refreshments at the evening, I announced, "Aaj ke liye itne hi games... Agle do din hum sab sightseeing ke liye jaayenge... Aur parso raat ko yahaan ek party hai... Aur uske next morning, hume return Mumbai jaana hai..." Everyone cheered & I asked them to enjoy the evening...

I joined my gang & we went to our cottage to freshen up... Once in the room, I looked at myself in the mirror... I was indeed looking much younger... I was in awe with this girl... She had brought the old Sameer back, who wasn't rude to anyone anymore... I was wearing a white t-shirt with a black leather jacket over it & it was paired with dark blue denims... Naina had also kept my Ray-Ban sunglasses over it... I had worn it the whole day so that I could keep my eyes on her without letting anyone know...

She looked like a fairy today in that pick dress... She had later removed her overcoat & draped her dupatta instead... She looked ethereal... She is my fairy... We all were supposed to meet for a camp fire tonight... I was very much excited to see her & meet her... Afterall she was going to answer my 'Kyun' I don't know what would I do once she gives me her answer... It was already dinner time when we all met at the hall again...

As decided before, camp fire was lit in the middle of the garden & several carpets were spread around it for people to sit... Everyone gathered there & were debating to whether play Antakshari or dumb charades... I looked at Munna & Pandit, & they interfered... Finally, it was decided that we stick to Antakshari & then later we could play dumb charades... The team was as usual Girls versus Boys...

Girls & Boys sat opposite each other & the game started... It was fun playing it... From a distance I saw Amrita walking over to us... I smiled & got up to receive her... My friends were shocked to see her there... I hugged her & took her away from the garden... My friends couldn't stay away & joined us...

"Arey... Amrita tum yahaan kya kar rahi ho???", Pandit asked the moment he reached us... "Ummmm... Mujhe Sameer ne yahaan bulaaya tha..." Everyone was shocked & turned to me... I saw their questioning eyes, but before I could say anything, Rohan came up to us & took Amrita in a tight hug... Everyone smiled at the scene unfolding in front of us... Rohan kissed her on her forehead & she mumbled a soft, 'I Missed You & I Love You...'

Everyone seemed happy except for our confused Naina... She didn't know anything & then I spoke clearing all her doubts once & for all, "Rohan aur Amrita couple hai... Ek dusre se bohot pyaar karte hai aur shaadi karna chaahte hai... Unki families ready nahi hai... Uske baare mein baad mein sochenge... Maine hi Amrita ki booking ki thi Shimla aane ke liye... Maine usse hamare saath aane se maana kiya tha, Shimla aane se maana nahi kiya tha... Aur bhala main kyun do pyaar karne waalon ke beech mein aaun... Amrita ko yahaan Rohan ke saath spend karna tha isliye wohh hamare saath aana chaahti thi... Kal se hum sightseeing ke liye jaayenge toh Amrita hume wahin join kar legi..."

I turned to Rohan, "Amrita ka dhyaan rakhna... Usse kuch bhi hua na toh tum soch bhi nahi sakte ki main tumhara kya haal karunga..." Amrita chuckled beside him & Rohan wrapped his hand around her waist, "Don't worry Sameer... Main meri princess ka acche se dhyaan rakhunga... And thanks Sameer..." "Ahhhh... Don't mention it Rohan... Main sirf apni best friend ki khushi chaahta hun..." Rohan & Amrita walked away after hugging all of us... She had stopped & whispered something in Naina's ear & she had turned beetroot red... I so loved that colour on her cheeks...

We all got back to our group happily who were still playing Antakshari... I saw Naina glancing my way many times... I so hoped to find some alone time with her... Munna screamed next to me, "Sameer... jaldi se koi gaana soch 'ma' se... jaldi kar na... Warna haar jayenge hum..." I looked at Naina who was already looking at me... I got up from there & picked up the guitar that was kept on the table nearby... I sat down on the chair & arranged the strings of the guitar...

I closed my eyes, took a deep breath & when I opened my eyes, they clashed with the ones I was desperate for & I began singing,

Mere rang mein rangne waali...

Everyone around me erupted in applauses... My eyes were focused on the one who was the main reason for whom I'd sung the song... Yesss... She was my fairy... my angel... who was sent in my life to change me & my boring life...

When I kept the guitar away, I heard many praises about my singing... Once I got to my original place next to the campfire, I heard Swati's voice, "Naina... 'na' se gaana soch jaldi..." She looked at me & I raised my eyebrows at her...

I finally heard her sing for the first time,

I kept looking at her throughout the song... She had sung the whole looking straight into my eyes... I shivered listening her voice... She rightly guessed that I was in love her... Yesss... I love her... People cheered & applauded for her singing... And I just walked out from there, not sure if I stayed there anymore, I would just grab her then & there & kiss her senseless...

I sat at the bench which was far away from the campfire... I was lost in my own thoughts, when I felt her presence... This was the first time I could feel her around me... I closed my eyes & took in her fragrance that was creating a havoc in my senses... She sat next to me & whispered, "Sameer..."

My name was also sounding melodious tonight... I opened my eyes & stared in her doe shaped beautiful eyes... What I saw in them at that moment took my breath away... "Sameer... Main aapko aapke 'Kyun' ka jawaab dene aayi hun..."
