5 years later

I made it...

A 29-year old Adrien Agreste could not believe it as he familiarizes himself with almost everything in the center of Webford Hospital's lobby.

"I made it!" He exclaims out loud with glee, raising his fists in the air. "Doctor DC, I'm finally going to confess to you!"

Then it hits him.

He's shouting in public.

Immediately, he opens his eyes and puts down his arms as the amount of people staring at him in confusion leaves him very, very conscious.

He lets out an awkward laugh and bows his head apologetically.

"Why did you have to do that in front of everyone, Adrien?" He mutters to himself under his breath while brisk walking away from the hospital lobby and heading to one of the halls for the nurses' orientation.

Adrien has given it his all for the past five years. He was able to get into nursing school and even pass all his written and practical exams. With the knowledge of being articulate with his details and colors when drawing, memorizing and illustrating some of the systems of the anatomy was easy. His final exam was a bit of a challenge though since he almost failed it due to his constant daydreaming of his fated encounter with his angel doctor.

Thankfully, applying in Webford General Hospital was easy as they were understaffed and thus, needed nurses and doctors in their different medical departments. But one of his biggest problems now is to see if he is cut out for it.

He has never memorized anything so extensive than all he had to study to become a nurse. Retaining all the information he learned and practiced in nursing school is something that he wanted to keep up for a lifetime.

His parents were even surprised with how diligent he had become that they even wondered why they never thought of nursing as his first course. Of course, they never knew the real reason why their son suddenly had a change of heart one day.

If they knew that it was because of a girl.

They wouldn't know what to do...maybe his dad would kick Adrien's ass first.

"Dude, over here!" A voice calls over to Adrien as he nears the doors leading to the hall for the orientation.

"Nino!" Adrien greets his best friend with glasses, but without his signature baseball cap. Nino is just like Adrien. They both met in the same nursing school and decided to apply in the same hospital. He too chose nursing as a second course but is two years younger than Adrien. He did not waste two years of doing nothing unlike Adrien.

"It's weird to see you without a cap on your head," Adrien continues.

"I know right?" Nino places a hand on top of his head. "I'm not allowed to wear it but it still makes me feel naked."

"Might as well comply with the rules, Nino," another voice adds to the group and Adrien happily welcomes the new member.

"Nath!" Adrien greets the timid yet firm guy who stops beside him. "It's about time you got here!"

"I was here earlier than you!"

Nathanaël is also another close friend of Adrien in nursing school. They both are also of the same age since Nath pursued high studies in art before realizing that the act of nursing is an art itself. It was because of Adrien that he also decided to apply in Webford General Hospital.

The three men have been inseperable since nursing school. As they were the only older ones in the batch, they decided to stick with each other than to mingle with the younger ones.

Adrien was also really happy to have the other two nurses as his friends. It helped with his morale that he wasn't the only old person in the batch. His friends never knew the reason why he decided to go to nursing school at a late age. They thought that he was suddenly struck with a sudden dash of inspiration as well.

Well yeah, inspiration...because of an angel.

"I think we should head inside already," Nath says as he looks around and notices some of the nurses gathering at the entrance of the chosen hall for the orientation.

"Dibs with sitting in front!" Adrien exclaims in excitement before joining the other nurses who were also going inside the hall.

"What's gotten in his pants?" Nino mutters to Nath.

Nath shrugs in confusion before replying, "Nino, I have no idea."

The hall was not as huge as a convention hall the doctors would use. It was enough to fit in around 40 people.

Adrien takes a seat in front by the right side, and Nino and Nath decide to sit beside him.

"Got any department you plan on applying in?" Adrien asks his friends in an excited whisper.

"I'm not so sure yet," Nino answers first, "but people have been telling me that I could fit well in pediatrics since I'm 'patient' with kids."

"I was thinking of cardiology," Nath follows.

"Me too!" Adrien yells in a whisper, bringing out his fist for Nath to bump his with. Nath does so in an awkward manner.

"Oh, the speakers are here already," Nino informs the two as the head nurses of each department and two doctors enter through the main door.

Adrien and Nath adjust their sitting positions as one doctor greets all the new nurses.

Adrien greets all of them back with much anticipation.

Soon, I'll finally see the angel that has went down from the heavens to grace me with her presence.

And...and I'll finally confess my feelings for her!

------------

"Another successful ablation, doc?" Doctor Chloe Bourgeios, asks the other doctor beside her as they both take off their own surgical gowns.

"Thank God it was." Doctor Marinette Dupain-Cheng, or otherwise known as Doctor DC, takes off her gloves and places it in the special bin designated for non-sterile single-use wear.

"There will come a time when you can do them with your eyes closed," Doctor Chloe teases her fellow doctor.

"And risk losing my license? No, thank you," Doctor DC utters in a monotonous voice. She fixes the sleeves of her blue scrubs.

Doctors Chloe and Marinette have been working alonside each other ever since they applied for the same department at the start of their residency. People say that it is only Doctor Chloe who has seen beyond the cold demeanor of Doctor DC.

"Hey," Doctor Chloe calls out to her, "when are you going back to your old self?" She asks in all seriousness.

"What do you mean? I've always been like this," Doctor DC defends. Doctor Chloe gives her a pointed look and it was becoming clear that the other doctor was not starting to like it. "What?" She asks again, starting to feel annoyed.

"Nothing," Doctor Chloe drawls out. "People just miss you smiling, that's all."

"I smile when I'm around the patients!"

"But nurses, staff, and other doctors call you the 'Devil'."

Doctor DC menacingly smirks at her colleague. "You think I'm not aware?" She lets out a soft chuckle. "It's amusing that they made a very original nickname for me."

"You're not bothered at all? It's been years since they've started calling you that behind your back."

"The patients still like me though," Doctor DC utters nonchalantly as she walks to the exit of the room. "I'll go ahead, doc. See you later!"

The doctor left behind lets out a deep sigh. "I expect nothing less from that woman," she mutters under breath in defeat.

Doctor DC has planned out everything she wanted to do after the operation. Her casual clothes and white coat were waiting for her back at her desk and she could not wait to change back into them. After changing, she knows that she deserves a chocolate croissant as a reward for doing well in the operation.

All her plans were well laid until a tall and sweaty man with strickingly blond hair in a nurse's uniform stops right in front of her - completely blocking her way in the corridor.

Doctor DC eyes the man from head to toe in confusion as he breathes heavily, catching his breath.

"What the hell are-"

"D-Doctor DC..." He interrupts. Only then the doctor notices his green eyes as well. "I was there when you saved that elderly woman five years ago. I...I was the one who called for an ambulance. I studied really hard to become a nurse and to see you." The man clenches his fists and closes his eyes. Then he bows directly at her. "Doctor...I-I...I like you!" He proclaims out loud in the corridor.

I did it! Adrien could not contain his excitement. I finally confessed to the angel straight from the heavens!

Right after the orientation and the nurses were given the chance to go around the hospital, Adrien left the group and went around by himself to find his angel.

And now he can't believe that she is right in front of him. Those five years of waiting were worth it!

He keeps his eyes closed and head bowed, waiting for his angel to do something or even just utter a word, any word.

Then he feels it - a touch of an angel. He feels her gently rest a hand on his head.

Doctor DC first gently rests her hand on his head...then without any hesitation, she forcefully yanks it up by gripping tightly on the nurse's hair. The nurse immediately lets out a cry in pain and flashes his eyes at her.

"Did I ask for a rock to block my path?" She spits out, glaring down at the man with eyes full of fury. Frustration and annoyance are the only things she could feel in this moment.

"H-Huh?" Adrien manages to utter despite the pulsating pain from the roots of his hair. He feels his heart drop as he sees her eyes ablaze, her cheeks fuming red with anger, her lips twitching to spit out more unholy words for an angel to say.

Is...Is this really my angel?! He thought as he continues to stare helplessly and in confusion at the woman in front of him.

Is this idiot freaking serious? She thought, clenching her teeth before she could literally bite off his head.

"Look," she continues still looking down at him, "I just came from a surgery and was on my way to fix myself and get a chocolate croissant. I would not expect an idiot to stop me on the way," she starts to raise her voice and lets go of the nurse's hair. Then she pushes two of her fingers on his forehead with force. "Keep your confession to yourself, idiot." She finishes in a stern manner before leaving the corridor left with the helpless nurse who was rubbing his forehead and scalp in pain.

"T-That can't be..." Adrien mumbles in disbelief once he sees her make a sharp turn to another corridor. "That's not my angel doctor five years ago..."

Adrien feels that he could start to cry in any moment now.

"She's...she's now a devil!"
