Fixing Physical And Mental Issues
2 weeks had passed since Josh's car accident, and he still remained in a medically induced coma. Cassie had hardly left his side, and a week ago, Josh's family had also turned up the day after the accident to see what had happened. Now, it was just Cassie and Leah who were there with him as his family couldn't stay for long.
Leah: I hate seeing someone close to me like this. Only God knows what you're going through, girl.
On top of hardly leaving his side, Cassie had barely spoken to anyone. She often whispered sweet nothings in Josh's ear and kissed his cheek to try and make herself feel better.
Leah: And I don't blame you for not leaving him. If I were in your shoes, I would do the exact same thing.
Cassie: You see, Leah, although I will always love him forever, I feel like I made a mistake.
Leah: What kind of mistake?
Cassie: I guess now is the best time to tell you, since he won't hear it... But I cheated on Josh.
Leah: What? Why?!
Cassie: It was a spur of the moment thing, a few weeks ago. Josh had gone away for a few days to see his parents. He wanted me to come, but I told him he deserves his time with them on his own. And the day before he came back, I went out for a few drinks, but I obviously had too many because the next morning, I woke up with this guy in my bed...
Leah: Well, it doesn't sound that bad, I mean...
Cassie: ... and we were both naked.
Leah: Ah. Well, you might have a lot of explaining to do when Josh wakes up.
Cassie: That's not the worst part - me and Josh did it the night after, so there's a chance that this guy could be the father of this baby...
Leah: Oh god. Do you know anything about who this guy?
Cassie: Yeah, and it's someone we know well. It's the US Champion, Travis Sharp.
Leah: Whoa, and that's not even the worst part. I heard that he's been dating Jessica for the past few months.
Cassie: That can't be a coincidence, unless she told him to be a part of this. When Josh gets better, us three are gonna have words with each other.
Just then, Cassie turned her thoughts back to Josh, who was still out of it in his coma.
Cassie: I dread to think what he might say when I tell him...
Leah: You sure that's a wise idea?
Cassie: I have to tell him, it's only fair. Besides, he was chuffed to bits when I told him I was pregnant. He thinks he's the father... I hope to god he is.
No sooner had Cassie finished her sentence, she felt Josh's grip get tighter around her hand.
Cassie: Josh?
The grip grew yet even tighter still, until Josh had a firm grip on Cassie's hand, and his head began moving around slightly. His eye then began fluttering open a little and was moaning and aching in pain.
Josh: Ugh... What... what the hell? Where am I?
Cassie and Leah were both in shock, as was Dr Osborne and his nurses when they arrived at the scene.
Dr Osborne: Well, it looks like Josh woke himself up. Now, Josh, do you remember anything from the accident?
Josh: Not a damn thing. Last thing I remember, I was coming back after a heated confrontation with my so called ex girlfriend.
Dr Osborne: Well allow me to fill you in. You suffered a broken arm, separated shoulder, a shattered kneecap, severe blood loss and a punctured lung. The punctured lung also caused some internal bleeding, which was why we put you in a medically induced coma.
Josh: And how long have I been out?
Dr Osborne: Just over 2 weeks. I'm glad to say that the punctured lung has healed well and your blood levels are rising back to normal. As for your arm, shoulder and kneecap, they are healing as planned but it'll take a good few months for you to even think about getting back in the wrestling business you're in.
Josh: No worries doc, with my girlfriend currently 3 1/2 months pregnant, I'll be taking it as easy as I can.
Dr Osborne: I'll leave you so I can go and sort out some tests for later. We'll keep you in observation for the next 24 hours and if all goes to plan, you could be allowed to go home tomorrow, in a wheelchair, of course.
Josh: Of course.
As the doctor and nurses left, Leah then left as she was getting a bit tired herself. That left Cassie and Josh alone together. And since Josh was awake now, Cassie thought it was time to come clean with the truth.
Cassie: Listen, Josh, there's something that's been bothering me as of late, and I feel like now's the time to tell you.
Josh: Ooh, sounds serious. What's up then baby girl?
Cassie sighed before taking a deep breath and coming out with it.
Cassie: You remember when you went to visit your parents a few weeks ago?
Josh: Yeah, and I insisted you stay at home. Why do you ask?
Cassie: Well, the night before you came back, I had a few too many drinks at a club, and I actually ended up having a one night stand with this guy.
Josh went wide eyed as Cassie continued.
Cassie: The worst part was waking up that morning naked with him in bed. But you've gotta believe me when I say that I regret my actions so much.
Josh: Right... So what does this mean?
Cassie: It means... you might not be the father of this baby...
Josh then felt his blood boil as he could barely believe what he had just heard.
Cassie: Josh, I'm...
Josh: Go. Now.
A stray tear ran down Cassie's face as she gathered up her stuff and left. While Josh was deep in thought, Cassie arrived home, with tears in full flow. She packed her bags and called Leah.
Cassie: Leah?
Leah: Ugh... I take it you told him then?
Cassie: Yeah, he just told me to go, so I did. I doubt he'll be in a good mood when he gets discharged, so do you mind if I stay at yours for a few days?
Leah: Yeah, for the baby's sake. Just come when you're ready.
The call ended and Cassie immediately headed over to Leah's apartment still in tears. When she arrived, the two hugged and Leah tried to calm her down.
Leah: You've done the right thing. Some space is what you both need to take it all in.
Cassie: I don't wanna lose him over this though...
Leah: Believe me... I'll make sure you stay together. In the meantime, I need to make a couple of phone calls...
2 days later...
Josh was in bed, not being able to move around, so he had his family take him home and stay with him for a while. As he turned over on his pillow, he felt something underneath it. He grabbed it and saw it was a note from Cassie.
Josh,
Firstly I have to say how sorry I am. It was the biggest mistake I'll ever make. That's why I'm not at home, I'm staying at a friend's house for a bit just to give you some space.
And secondly, if you wanna know who the guy I slept with is, it's Travis Sharp. The guy that's been dating Jessica these past few months.
I don't know when I'll be back, but I dont want this to be the end of us. I still want a family with you because I always have done and I always will.
I will always love you.
Cassie. Xx
Josh kept the note and put it in his drawer, before thinking about what Jessica said before the accident when they were together...
3 years ago, when Josh and Jessica were together...
Josh had just got back from a little outing and he saw Jessica on the sofa, trying to hide a big smile on her face.
Josh: Hey you, what's got you all smiley?
Jessica: Have a look for yourself...
She gave him 2 pregnancy tests which both showed that they were positive.
Josh: You're kidding me...
Jessica: Nope, I'm already a month along, so we're gonna be parents come August!
Josh and Jessica hugged it out, happy that they were gonna be parents, completely unaware of what was to come in their future.
A couple of months later, after the couple found out they were having a boy and had decided to call him James, Jessica and Josh were in bed together, when Jessica was woken up by something wet running down her leg.
Jessica: Josh... J-Josh... JOSH!!!
Her last shout woke Josh up, and he had a look of panic on his face.
Josh: What's wrong, Jess?
She was crying so much she couldn't speak, she just lifted the duvet cover and revealed a small pool of red on her side of bed in between her legs.
Jessica: No... please, no...
In a panic, Josh looked at the red pool and felt like his world had come crashing down on top of him. He comforted Jessica as best he could.
Josh: I'm speechless, babe. Perhaps this wasn't meant to be...
Jessica: What do you mean?
Josh: Maybe it might not have happened this time, but in the future, it could.
Jessica wiped her tears away before raising a small smile and kissing Josh's cheek.
Jessica: That's what I love about you, you always have a smile on your face no matter what. You always see the positive, even in a situation like this. I love you, baby.
Josh: And I love you too...
They kissed once more before Josh got Jessica calmed down and back to sleep.
It was now 6 months after Jessica's miscarriage, and for the last month, the two had been drifting apart, such as not speaking to each other as much. After a secret date, Josh came home to find a strange guy making out with a half naked Jessica on the sofa.
Josh: Ahem...
Jessica: Oh my god, Josh! You... you're back early...
In a panic, Jessica got her shirt back on and the guy got his stuff and sprinted out the door without looking back at Josh.
Josh: Save the explanation, Jessica. I don't wanna hear it. It's over between us.
Present day...
Josh was woken up by his sister Louise gently tapping him on the shoulder.
Louise: Josh, you okay?
Josh: Ugh... Yeah, now I'm awake... What's up?
Louise: I've got you lunch, your favourite - KFC!
Josh: Yum...
Louise then sat on the side of his bed and had a talk with his brother.
Louise: So, I heard that Cassie might have cheated on you.
Josh: How did you know?
Louise: Cassie's friend Leah phoned me and explained everything.
Josh: So what do you think I should do?
Louise: Well, in my opinion, I think you shouldn't have done what you did. She came clean and was honest with you, the least you could have done is accept her apology.
Josh sighed at the fact but at the same time, he knew Louise had a point.
Josh: You're right, sis.
Louise: To see who the father really is, you should take a DNA test when the baby's born.
Josh: That's a good idea. Now, I've got a phone call to make...
Louise: Say no more, I'm gone...
As she left, Josh reached for his phone and searched through his contacts before eventually reaching the person he wanted to call, and dialled the number.
Josh: Hello?
???: Hey, Josh, to what do I owe this unexpected pleasure?
Josh: Sorry to say it isn't a pleasure, cos we need to talk. Face to face.
???: Well, okay then... Does 12 at the park tomorrow suit you?
Josh: Yeah, that's fine by me. I'll see you there.
He ended the call before sending Cassie a text.
Josh: Hey, babe. Sorry for reacting the way I did the other day at the hospital. Can we talk this over tomorrow or something so I can apologise properly, face to face?
At Leah's house...
Cassie had just received the text and a small smile grew on her face as she showed it to Leah.
Cassie: What do you think this means?
Leah: It means that he's finally opened his eyes and seen what a mistake he's made. Go to see him tomorrow.
Cassie hugged Leah before taking a nap in the spare bedroom. Before falling asleep, she whispered to herself while rubbing her small bump.
Cassie: All is not lost, baby. You'll see Daddy again very soon. I'm sure of it...
