The night of the Royal Rumble had arrived for everyone. One of the biggest events of the year to determine who would face what champion at Wrestlemania. The IIconics, Peyton Royce (Cassie) and Billie Kay (Jessica), were backstage, discussing their strategy for the Women's Rumble match, which was about to get underway.

Cassie: So, we clear on the plan?

Jessica: Yep, basically just go for it and eliminate all those who stand in our way.

Cassie: Yep, I like the sound of that! Anyway, I've gotta go make up, be right back!

As they hugged and Cassie left, Jessica had a wry smile on her face.

Jessica: Oh Cassie... if only you knew what was coming.

Half an hour later...

The match had now got underway, and was awaiting entrant number 13. As the crowd counted down and the buzzer rang, Femme Fetale then hit, and Cassie sprinted to the ring, and she immediately went on the attack, going after Natalya and Ember Moon. Soon after this, Peyton's tag team partner, Jessica made her entrance at number 17. But as the IIconics had a staredown with NXT stars Lacey Evans and Candice LeRae, Jess then swerved, and to the shock of the crowd, basically knocked Cassie out. She then threw her limp body over the rope, eliminating her from her title dreams. Cassie then came to, and all of a sudden, had realised what had happened. Her best friend, of all people, had turned on her. The girl who she went through everything with was no more.

As a dejected Cassandra made her way backstage, she had to do an interview with Kayla Braxton for WWE.com.

Kayla: Peyton... it's obviously been a rough night for you, with your best friend, Billie Kay turning on you and eliminating you from the Women's Royal Rumble match. Do you... have anything to say at this point in time?

Cassie: Well... I just didn't expect it. I mean... me and her have been best friends for so many years, going back to high school. We've been through so much together... and for her to do what she did tonight... well, all I'm gonna say is that it takes one hell of a woman to turn on her best friend... but it takes an even bigger woman to learn from her mistakes. And what Billie did tonight was the biggest mistake of her life, because I will be the one who makes sure that she learns from that mistake and I will be the one who beats the living hell out of her at the next opportunity I get.

Cassie then had a slight look of determination on her face as the interview ended and she marched off, towards her locker room. She quickly gathered up her stuff and headed for an empty locker room, where she could be on her own and think things over. The last thing she needed was her emotions getting the better of her by just being in the same room as her now former best friend. She then spoke to herself as she would rather not let anybody else be burdened by her problems.

Cassie: Why would she do it? After everything we've been through together... high school... graduating at Lance Storm's wrestling academy... signing our NXT contracts... our main roster debut... to this...

She just decided to have a shower and go back to her hotel room, as she couldn't even stand being in the arena anymore. She had to get away from there as quickly as possible. And after a 20 minute Uber ride, she arrived at her own hotel room. Cassie laid back on the bed and tried to go to sleep, but as she was fading, her phone lit up with a text from Ron (Tye Dillinger), her boyfriend.

Ron: Listen... I've been thinking about this for a while now... and since the company are gonna release me, I really dont think we can be together anymore. I'm sorry to have to do this, but... I'm ending it. I don't think me and you will work out. I would call you to talk about it properly, but after what happened tonight, I think it's best I just message you. I'm sorry, Cassie.

Cassie didn't bother replying, as she had basically had a crappy night already. She let a few sad tears run down her face as she just decided to just watch TV and try to take her mind off things. But since nothing else was on, she had to settle for the Royal Rumble, where it was time for the men's Rumble match. And as the match progressed, entrant number 17 caught her eye a little.

Michael: Here he comes... Josh Stevens is here!

Corey: This man has done it all in NXT... former NXT champion, NXT tag team champions with Ricochet, and NXT North America Champion.

Renee: That's right, The Master Of Energy has arrived! If his last 3 years in NXT are anything to go by, then this young man from London has a bright future!

Cassie then watched closely, as the guy looked familiar to her. She studied a few of the moves he did thoroughly before coming to a conclusion. It had to be him.

Cassie: Oh my... can it be? Is it really you?

She then had a few tears running down her face, but this time, they were happy tears. Her former penpal from when they were both 14 years old, Josh Stevens, was now in WWE. She then rummaged through her suitcase, scrambling to find something.

Cassie: Come on... where is it, I know it's in here...

She then found a blue envelope right at the bottom of her suitcase. She pulled it out and began reading the letter that Josh had sent her while Cassie was still living in Australia, and Josh was still living in the UK. For Cassie, what was on the letter meant so much to her, as it was the very last letter that Josh had sent her before they lost contact.

To Cassie,

Where do I even start? Words cannot describe how lucky I have been to have found a penpal like you, but to be brutally honest, you are more than that to me. You are someone I can trust, a true friend. And sometimes, I think of you as even more than that. We may have never met, but after getting to know you over these past few years, I will admit I may have caught one or two feelings for you. But for every up, there's a down, and here it is. I'm sorry, and I can't apologise enough for what I am about to say, but I cannot keep on writing to you anymore, as I have been offered a new job in America in which I have accepted, and to be brutally honest, I think it'll be even harder for us to stay in touch then. So I hope you look back on all the letters we have shared with a sense of fondness, as I regret to say that this may be the last letter you ever receive from me. If it is, then I want you to do 2 things for me.

Firstly, I want you to do what you have always wanted to do. Despite all the letters we have written to each other, you never have told me what you wanted to do for a dream job. But whatever it is, I want you to never give up and eventually you'll achieve it.

And secondly... have a good life. Do that for me, Cassandra. Have a fantastic life.

Just know... no matter what happens... I will always love you. And I mean as more than a friend. I love you beyond compare, and I wish that one day in the future, fate will let us meet once again and I can get to finally meet you so I can say those magical words to your beautiful pretty face.

Cassie then held the letter and clutched it against her chest. For her, it was something to hold on for. All of those years of not being in contact with Josh... and now, here he was in the WWE!

Cassie: I... I love you too... Josh.

Her eyes focused back on the Rumble match, as Josh then got eliminated by Seth Rollins, who won the match. Afterwards, Josh got back in the ring and went face to face with Seth, but instead of attacking each other, Rollins stuck his hand out and Josh shook it, taking it as a show of respect from the Kingslayer. As they shook and then hugged, they then went to the back together.

Seth: I never thought I'd see you here.

Josh: Well, it was a split decision. Come to WWE or take Cody's offer of joining AEW. In the end, it was a no brainer.

Seth: You know what brand you'll be on yet?

Josh: Apparently, I am destined for the land of opportunity, Smackdown Live. I think our dream match will have to wait for a while.

Seth and Josh exchanged a fist bump as they went their separate ways. And as Josh headed back to his locker room, he saw someone who he never expected to see again. His ex girlfriend, Jessica McKay, also known as Billie Kay. She saw him going past and eventually got his attention.

Jessica: Josh... is that you?

Josh: Hey, Jess.

Jessica: You... sure look different.

Josh: Save the flattery. Before you go any further, just remember that I'm not interested anymore. I don't do relationships. I haven't done ever since we were together. And we all know what happened then... I was an idiot and let you down, when I cheated on you.

Jessica: Well, the good thing is that I'm over it now... is there any chance we could start again? I mean... you don't have to if you don't want to.

Josh: Jess... I didn't come here to make friends. I didn't even come here for championships. I came here to prove to not only myself but to everyone else that I am the next rising star in WWE. Look at what I did in NXT. Held every title on that roster... had dream matches with amazing stars. I fully intend on continuing that trend on the main roster.

Jessica: Well, if that's the case...

She then left Josh alone, and as she went away, he had a smirk on his face. He then spoke to himself before getting changed and heading to his hotel room.

Josh: Believe me... when I arrive on Smackdown, nobody will know what had hit them. They don't call me The Master Of Energy for nothing... and that is because I cannot be created... or destroyed.

Meanwhile...

Cassie was having a dream about what was going to happen should she and Josh meet up in the future. Bits of it included them meeting... him asking her out... getting engaged... starting a family... and growing old together. She could imagine her whole life with Josh. The only thing that might be standing in her way was the decision of what brand he would be on. She then awoke from her dream and groggily walked over to the window, where the lights from the city were in full view, and she then stared up at the night sky, where she saw a shooting star. She closed her eyes and made a wish, before then opening them and saying her wish to herself.

Cassie: I wish... I wish I could meet the man of my dreams... a certain Mr Josh Stevens.

Little did she know, that in 2 very short days time... her wish might be able to come true...
