Chapter Two: Home Sweet Home
-Becky-
After that creepy encounter with Professor Crane, the rest of the day actually went by pretty well. So well in fact, that I was actually driving home from school right now with Parker in my silver SUV. Other than how my day went however, all of my friends have been constantly prying at me for information about my encounter with Dr. Crane after I left, but I've haven't told them anything, not yet at least. If anything, I plan to tell them all privately tonight when were all at my house for the horror movie marathon and not in public when anyone with prying ears could listen in on our conversation. Especially Professor Crane, the same man who I had wanted to talk about around my peers, but couldn't since he seems to go everywhere I go now. It was like he was stalking me or intentionally trying to creep me out. Which I will admit, was working, but I didn't plan on showing him it and he knew that. But that didn't stop him from continuing to try though.
It was about 10 minutes after the bell rang and Parker and I were leaving out towards the East parking lot, when out of no where, I started to feel like we were being watched. Curious if I was just being paranoid, I turned around while Parker was distracted with her phone and immediately spot the reason behind my paranoia. Professor Crane. He was looking down at us from his second story classroom and I could easily tell, that his piecing blue eyes were staring directly at me. The minute I make eye contact with him, he seems to smirk at me and gives me a small wave, which I decipher as a simple tease. In both fear and anger, I scowl back at Crane and quickly flip him off before placing a shaking hand on Parker's shoulder and ushering her to walk faster and away from her creepy professor's line of sight.
"Hey! Becky what are you doing?" Parker asked as I continued to usher her. I remain silent to her question and quickly turn back around to see if we were finally out of Professor Crane's line of vision. Thankfully, we were. "Okay, we're clear." I sighed as I pull out my car keys. "We're clear? What do you mean by that?" Parker asked nervously while checking behind us. "It's nothing, just get into the car." I murmur while climbing inside the driver's seat. Parker sighs and quickly checks behind us one more time before joining me in the passenger seat. As we pull out of my stall and leave the parking lot, I couldn't stop myself from worrying and start to check my rear view mirror. I couldn't see anyone following us, but I could still feel in my gut that he was watching me and that I would soon forever regret ever confronting him.
~Time Skip~
The first few minutes of the drive were silent as I drove out of Gotham City and into the nearby city of Greenvale. My hometown. The silence didn't last long though, eventually Parker did look up from her phone and spoke up. "Becky, are you alright? Ever since you ran off after Professor Crane, you have been acting so paranoid. He didn't do anything to you, did you?" Parker asks worried. I turn my eyes away from the road and hesitate before honestly replying, "No Parker, he didn't hurt me. He just startled me that's all." Parker sighs in frustration to my lack of details and turns back to her phone at the familiar ding of her phone alerting her that she had just received a text. While she is reading it, I turned my eyes back to the road and turn off the main highway. While I was doing so, I see in the corner of my eye Parker turn away from her phone and look back at me with more worry circulating in her eyes. "What is it Parker?" I ask as I turn right into the city of Greenvale.
"Ben and Jessica just texted me, and just like myself, you haven't told any of us what really happened after you ran after Professor Crane." Parker asks very worried. I tighten my grip on the steering wheel in frustration to their reoccurring question. How long was it going to take before they realized that I just didn't want to talk about, at least not until later. Parker easily notices my frustration and sighs, "Please Becky, tell me what happened. What did he do or say to you?" "Parker look, I understand how all of you are very upset at what happen and I can understand that. If one of you guys ran after him instead of me, I would be asking these very same questions, but I've already told all of you that I plan on not talking about it. At least not until tonight, when everyone's over for the movie marathon." I reply with a slight smile. "That's tonight?! Oh my God, I forgot all about that!" Parker laughs with relief while face palming, "Now I'm excited, we all get to sit down and watch some lame ass scary movies and get to talk about the infamous spooky Crane! Ooh, so scary!" "Seriously Parker?" I laugh as I turned left into my familiar neighborhood, "Weren't you excited about these lame ass movies anyway without the drama of your jerk of a professor?"
"Oh shut it Becky and watch the road. I don't want my funeral to be tomorrow." Parker jokes while lightly punching me in the arm. "Ouch, you dork! I'm a good driver, I don't need-" "Watch out!" Parker yells while pointing straight ahead of us. I quickly react to her sudden panic and slam on the brakes before we both came to a halting stop. "Ow!" I giggle dramatically. "You okay? Why did you tell me to stop?" I ask confused. Parker smiles and nods before pointing off into the distance past me. I turn my head to follow Parker's pointing finger and quickly take notice of a single, black stray cat that had just entered the road. Within a blink of an eye, both of us watch as the single stray, scurries off in front of our car and runs into the bushes across the street. "Really Parker? All that for a cat?" I giggle as I start to drive again. "Yeah! Cats are cute and black cats are my favorite!" Parker scowls back, "And besides, you know I wouldn't have allowed you to hit the poor thing either way."
"Okay I'm sorry, but you do know that black cats are bad luck right? Especially if they cross your path." I chuckle while trying to spook her. "Nah, that's just a superstition. You don't believe in that stuff do you?" Parker asks with a smile. "No, I don't actually, but either way I still don't want any more bad luck. I already have had enough of that." I reply with a smile. Parker laughs at my selfish reply and returns her attention back to her phone, just as I pull into the driveway of my lovely house. My house isn't that big to be honest, I mean after all, there's only three people who live in it and we aren't all that rich. It's a simple brown two bedroom, two bathroom house with two separate floors, a small basement, and an off branching garage for our one car. The silver SUV that I'm actually driving, is really the only working car we own right now. Which isn't too much of a problem, since only my fiancee and I use it to get to either work or school and sometimes the occasional shopping trip us girls love to do.
"Aw! I forgot how cute your guy's little house is." Parker giggles as I turned the car off. "You seem to forget a lot of things nowadays." I joke while climbing out. Parker scoffs at me and I laugh. "I'm just joking." I apologize with a sly smile. She rolls her eyes at me in a kidding manner and lightly flips me off, before grabbing her backpack and shutting the car's door. "So, do you think little Kit Kat is here?" Parker asks eagerly as we approached the front door. At the thought of my child, I look towards the living room window where she usually sits and waits for either Oliver or myself to come home, and see two familiar pair of eyes looking out at us. Oliver's dark brown and Katrina's crystal blue. When our eyes make contact, Oliver smiles and waves while my baby girl squeals and disappears from the window. The simple sight brings a bright smile to my face as we watched and waited for Katrina to meet us at the door. "Yup, she's here." I smile as the front door opened for us to reveal my lover and my sweet little girl.
"Mommy!" Katrina squeals before running up and embracing me. "Hey baby girl! Did you miss me?" I ask while hugging her back. Katrina looks up at me with her warm smile and nods before squeezing me tighter. This is Katrina, my little four year old daughter, who was also the result of a late night stand with Oliver back when I was a sophomore in college. Katrina was born premature on January 16th, 2029 with bright, brilliant blue eyes and with short, fluffy brown hair on top of her head. Due to her premature birth, the doctor's told us that Katrina had a 10% survival rate and would most likely not make it through her first week. Katrina proved them wrong though. Overnight at the hospital, she pulled through with such remarkable recovery, that it still startles doctors to this day. And now here she was, with her bright blue eyes and now long luscious braided brown hair. "Aww, I missed you too sweetheart!" I giggle. "She's not the only one who missed you." Oliver smiles.
Oliver Parkman, father, technician, and my fiance. I first met the fella back in college when he was in his senior year and I was in my sophomore year. We had met in the East hallway at Gotham University when both of us were running late to our classes. While he was turning the corner, he didn't happen to take notice of another person walking nearby and crashed into me while knocking both of us over in the process. I remember how I wasn't in a good mood that morning and yelled at him to "Watch where you're going!". Oliver had quickly apologized to his mistake and instead of running off like everyone else does when people push me down, he knelled down and helped me back up and gathered my books for me before picking up his own.
"I'm so sorry, I should have watched where I was going. Are you alright?" He replied. "I'm fine, can I have my books back now?" I had asked a tad bit annoyed. Oliver's eyes had glassed over with regret and I could see that he had easily recognized the annoyance in my voice. I remember feeling guilty when his face had saddened and when I started to recall my regretting choice of words. "Actually, I was wondering if it would be alright if I helped you to class, since I knocked you down and all." Oliver nervously asked with a slight chuckle. I remember feeling very surprised to his request, and how I blushed when I had agreed to it. Upon saying my simple yes, Oliver's face had formed into a genuine smile and with a tint of blush and offered me his hand, which I shyly took. A sappy story I know, but that was how our relationship had started. Was it fate? Or maybe influenced by a Divine Ruler? I don't know, I don't think we will ever know. And to be honest, I don't care. As long as we are together as one and as a family, I will be the happiest woman alive.
Seeing that Oliver now wanted my undivided attention, Parker helped us out by calling Katrina over to the living room for playtime, which Katrina gladly agreed to do and when she recognized who Parker was. "Hey beautiful." Oliver smiled as he walked over and planting a soft kiss upon my lips, "How was school?" "The usual." I smile with a slight lie as he takes my books and backpack. "Liar!" Parker yelled from the living room, "She got in a fight with one of my professors!" "What?" Oliver asks worried after quickly setting my things down, "Are you alright? What happened? I swear, if she or he hurt you-" "He didn't do anything to me honey, I promise. He just scared me that's all." I interrupt Oliver as he looked over my perfectly fine figure. "Yeah right." Parker scoffs in the other room. I quickly turn around and send a death glare towards Parker. Upon seeing it, Parker quickly shuts up and turns back to playtime with Katrina. It was incredibly rude I know, but it just had to be done. The issue with Professor Crane is mirror and Parker really shouldn't need to make it sound anymore worst than it should.
"Becky, can I speak to you in the other room in private?" Oliver asks worried. I turn my attention back to Oliver in worry, he must've seen my glare. I hesitantly nod to his request before following him to the kitchen. Once out of ear shot of both Katrina and Parker, Oliver sighs heavy and immediately engulfs me in a tight hug before expressing his feelings, "Becky my darling, do you know how many times you happen to cross my mind on a daily basis?" I giggle like a little school girl to his sweet compliment and gently hug him back, "Obviously too much honey. Why are you telling me this?" I feel him gently release me from his loving embrace to my question and instead reaches out to take my hands in his. "It's because I worry about you sweetheart. I worry for your safety when you visit Gotham, and your protection when you're alone in such a large, corrupt city. I worry everyday if it's your last day and if we'll be able to see you later that day." Oliver whispers as he reached up to cup my face.
"Wait, we?" I ask confused. "Yes Becky, we. Katrina's a smart girl and I know that she knows the dangers of Gotham and also worries about her mommy. Why else do you think she's been having nightmares?" Oliver confesses with seer certainty. As I pondered his question, I couldn't help but look deep into my lover's brown eyes as he looked into my own green irises. Within his eyes, I could see the pure honesty that was held behind them, about Katrina and how much he really did worry about my safety. "Oh my God, you're right." I thought aloud as I turned away from my lover's warm embrace, "That completely explains then why she has only been calling for me at night when she's petrified." As I am pondering how Katrina could have figured out the dangers of Gotham, Oliver slips behind me and hugs me tightly in a pure loving manner. "Please Becky, we worry about you and after what I've heard from Parker, I need to know the truth." Oliver pauses as he slowly lets me go and twirls me around to face him, "What happened today Becky? Why did you get in a fight with Parker's professor?"
I feel myself release a heavy sigh off of my chest as I decided that it was safe enough for me to come clean to my fiance. "Alright, I'll tell you." I sigh in relief as I motion for my man to sit at the kitchen table. Oliver lightly smiles at his minor victory over me and gently leads me to a chair of my own at the kitchen table before sitting down next to me like an impatient child waiting for me to tell a story. Only this child, was a grown man, and he was worrying over the safety of his soon to be wife. "Okay, I'm not going to go into too much details, but the only main reason that I confronted her psychology professor, Dr. Crane, was because he insulted her intelligence and told her to drop his class since he couldn't see her lasting too long in it." I confess while recalling today's events, "So in defense and wanting to see the other side of the story, I approached Professor Crane at lunch. Which didn't go too well." "How so?" Oliver asks.
"It really doesn't matter hon, all that you need to know is that he set me off after he pushed past me and I ran after him. Which I can't help but regret doing so." I gloss over. "Why? What happened?" Oliver begs impatient. "Oh stop being impatient babe, I'm getting there!" I giggle. Oliver laughs and shakes his head to my protest, "Sorry, please continue." I shake my head with a small smile, before continuing my story, "Well, I followed him to the second floor and stopped him from entering his classroom with my cane." "Ohhh, sassy Becky! Me likey." Oliver flirts while trying to hold in a laugh, "Please continue to entertain me." I giggle to his fail of seducing me and continue onward with my story, "Anyway, I told him off about his rude behavior, but as I was doing so, I couldn't help but notice that something was off about him." Surprisingly, Oliver makes no move to interrupt, and urges me to continue. I could tell that my choice of words had just captured his attention.
"He was staring at me, as if he was studying me and when I asked him a question, he failed to hear me and kept staring at me with this blank expression. It was really disturbing me to be honest, but I think I was actually more creeped out when he started to ask me some personal questions and got really close to me. It was then I decided that enough was enough and I stormed off." I slightly shiver as I recall the details. "Jeez, sounds like a great guy." Oliver sighs, "Is there anything else that happen today that I should be aware of?"
I slightly hesitate to my lover's question as images of Professor Crane stalking me in the halls popped into my mind and of him watching me leave. "Yeah, now that I think about it, I remember seeing Parker's professor follow me around after our fight, and of him watching me leave after school." I confess. Deep down, it had felt like a coincidence when I started to notice Dr. Crane more often in the hallways, but after our little dispute, I couldn't help but think that maybe it wasn't. Especially after I caught him studying my body language. Oliver lets out a frustrated sigh to my confession and rubs his brow as if he was thinking real hard. "Babe, do you think he is going to be an issue? Cause if you think he is, I will gladly go talk to him tomorrow morning." Oliver replies with venom lacing around his threatening words.
"T-talk to w-who?" A familiar little girl's voice asks behind him. Before, I could have even responded to Oliver's request, we both turn towards the doorway to see Katrina standing in it with a confused expression spread across her face. "Oh nobody sweetheart, how long have you been standing there?" Oliver asks as he stood up from his chair and approached our concerned little Katrina. "N-not l-long. I-I just came by to ask w-when we w-were going to s-see the m-movie?" Katrina shyly admitted. "Movie?" I ask. "Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I was taking Katrina to the movie theaters with me while your friends are over for the marathon, is that alright?" Oliver nervously smiles. "Yeah, that's perfectly fine!" I smile, "They should actually-" "Knock Knock! Anyone home?!" Ben's voice yells down the hall. "SHHH! Ben!" Jessica's voice followed, "Be quiet!"
"Well speak of the devils." I smile towards Oliver as Katrina ran to the front door to go greet them. "You two best be going, I don't want to give our baby any more nightmares." I giggle as I walk up and embrace Oliver to give him my goodbye kiss. Oliver gladly accepts my affection and our lips connect for a quick passionate kiss. "C-come on d-daddy! M-movie time!" Katrina squeals down the hall. Our lips disconnect as we both smile to our daughter's behavior change. She got her bossy behavior from both her father and I. Sadly though, she hasn't been showing this trait lately due to her bullying at kindergarten, it has been recently causing her confidence to fade. Which was exactly how I was when I was her age. It also makes me worry if she'll maybe one day follow in my footsteps.
"We'll continue this conversation later, okay?" Oliver smirks. "Okay mister bossy, now you two get out of here, you'll miss Katrina's movie." I giggle before gently pushing him out of the kitchen and down the hall. "Y-yeah daddy, you heard m-mommy! H-hurry up!" Katrina giggles as we join her at the front door. "Oh alright, lets get going baby cakes." Oliver sighs dramically. "Bye m-mommy!" Katrina calls out as she walks outside. "Love you Bec." Oliver waves before running after Katrina. "Love you both!" I reply with an airborne kiss as they shut and lock the door. "Aww, puke!" Parker calls from the living room, "Now, Becky get in here and tell us about your encounter with Dr. Crane! I already know you told mister bossy!" Everyone and including myself laugh to her sarcastic humor while I enter the living room to join them. "Oh alright, you guys. You all waited long enough, and it is horror movie night. I guess I'll give you all the details about my spooky encounter." I chuckle as I stand before my new audience.
