Chapter 10: Emotional Turmoil

-Becky-

"Becky..."

.....

"Becky, wake up."

"Mhmm." I groan in displeasure while stretching out my stiff limbs. "Becky..." The unknown voice calls out again. "Come on, wake up. I need to talk to you." "Ugh" I groan again while slowly opening my eyes. "W-who is it?  What do you wan-, whoa, wait what?!" I gasp before sitting up in complete shock. "Where am I? This isn't my living room!"

No it wasn't, as a matter fact, this place was far worse than being living room. I was in my unconscious, and while this may not seem like a frighting issue to most people, it was to me. For you see, unlike most people's unconsciousness, mine isn't very pleasant. In my unconscious world, it is nothing more but a black void filled with my deepest insecurities, memories, dreams/nightmares, and fears.

As one could guess, I've been here many times before, and back then, this place wasn't so bad. Believe it or not, it was actually once a peaceful, white void filled with life and simple pleasures, but ever since Crane gassed me, my once safe haven has turned into a personal nightmare.

"What the Hell? What am I doing here?" I thought aloud slightly frightened, "This has got to be a bad dream, it just has to be. Come on me, wake up. Wake up!""Becky..." The hushed and oddly familiar voice who is now closer whispers again. I feel the hairs on the back of my neck rise, they were behind me, I could sense it, but I dare not move to see who it was. I was too petrified. "Becky..." The feminine voice whispers again.

I shut my eyes tight and hug my knees close to my body. "Come on Becky, wake up, wake up, wake up." I encourage myself silently as I heard the being come closer. "Wake up, wake up, wake up." "Becky...?"  The voice asks directly behind me before placing a hand on my shoulder, "Are you alright?"

My eyes widen to their icy touch and I scream before jumping back and scooting away from the being within the shadows. "G-go away!" I scream, "Go away and l-leave me alone!" "Oh jeez." I hear the voice sigh with concern as it backed off."I-I'm sorry Becky. I didn't mean to scare you."

I feel my eyebrows rise in bewilderment to their concern. "Did they seriously just apologize to me?" I thought with confusion, "No, I must have heard them wrong. My demons don't apologize for scaring me, they laugh. So what makes this one any different. It must be faking it, it's got to be!" "Becky? Becky are you alright? You seem tense." The voice asks as I'm lost in my thoughts. "

"What?" I accidentally ask aloud. "Oh, I'm sorry. I said-"  "I know what you said." I interrupt, "But why did you say that? Why did you apologize? You're a demon, you're not suppose to apologize to me!"

They pause shortly after hearing my question, and shift uncomfortably in the darkness under the weight of my eyes. It was like they were afraid to answer or something. "I-I'm, I'm not one of them Becky, I'm not a demon." The voice replies carefully. "Then what are you?!" I demand. "If you're not demon, then who and what are you?!" They pause again, before sighing, "I'm a friend Becky, don't-, don't you recognize me?"

I open my mouth to say, "No.", but quickly stop myself after I remembered that that wasn't entirely correct. Their voice, while it may be difficult to hear, it was oddly familiar to me. The only problem to this being, was that I didn't know why, it just was. It felt like I've known this person for years, but for some reason I just couldn't put a face to it. "Becky?" The voice asks as it got closer. "Yes?" I reply slightly nervous. "Do you recognize me?" They ask once more with sadness lacing their words,"Please tell me you do."

I let out a heavy sigh, "I do. I recognize your voice, but I still don't know who you are. Or what you are." "What do you mean?" They ask slightly lost. "Well," I hum, while scratching the back of my head. "Maybe it's because I can't see you?"

"Wait, you can't see me?" The voice asks confused. I nod."Really? Are you sure you're not just blind?" They scoff in protest, "I'm literally standing right in front of you." I frown and cross my arms, "Well it's not my fault it's dark in here." "Maybe if there was a little bit more light in here, I could see you better."

They sigh."You do have a point." "Well shit, if you can' t see me then how am I suppose to see- oh wait!"  They laugh. "I forgot, you can't see me because I haven't manifested yet!"

I feel my eyebrows lift up in confusion to her statement. "Manifest? What are like a ghost or something?" I lightly joke."Well, yeah. I guess you could call me that," They joke back which causes my eyes to widen,"but that's beside the point." "B-besides the point?! Claiming to be a ghost is quite a powerful statement to make, especially when you're here and trying to manifest in my own mind!" I retort. "So is that what you're truly trying to do here demon? Trying to possess me?!"

An uncomfortable and tense silence follows after my panicked outburst, that leaves me wondering if they had angered them or if they had left, but not long after this thought had popped into my head, I hear them sigh again."Jeez, we've definitively watched too much scary movies together haven't we Becky?" They sigh before chuckling, as if they we're reliving old memories. "What." I thought before asking, "What are you talking about?" They chuckle again, but this time, decide to refrain from answering my question."It doesn't matter. Now, give me a few moments of silence to concentrate and I'll be back with that light you requested." The voice kindly replies before going quiet again.

"Wait what? No I'm not done- ugh!" I groan in defeat as I felt the presence leave the room. "Damn it. Well, I guess I got no other choice, but to wait now." I hiss. "Oh well, it's not like I got anything better to do." I sigh before crossing my arms again and losing myself in my thoughts. "Hopefully they'll be back soon, I really want to get to know more about them, especially after they mentioned that 'seeing too many scary movies together' thing. That was just weird."

As I continued to ponder these questions to myself, I begin to hear voices fill the cavern. Voices that were a mix of between familiar and unfamiliar. "Becky! Oh my God Becky!" A familiar male voice yelled. "Sir, please stand back." A different male voice intervenes. "That's my wife God damn it! Let me see her!" The familiar man yells back. "Sir! Please calm down, we're trying our best to revive her!" An unfamiliar female responses. "Revive her? Who are they talking about? Are they talking me? Oh God, I'm not dead am I?!" I thought with a slight panic.

Before I can answer this question however, another voice speaks up that shatters my heart. It was daughter, Katrina's. "M-mommy? Mommy!" She screams. "Hey! Get back here!" A new male voice yells. "No! L-let me g-go! Mommy!" I hear Katrina scream as the sounds of a struggle ensue. "Katrina!" I cry out without thinking, "I'm here! I'm here! Can you hear me?"

"What are you doing?" The original voice within my mind asks behind me.

I turn around. "It's m-my daughter, s-she's in- whoa!" I gasp in surprise.

Before me was a humanize light. Which at a first glance, looked odd, as their body wasn't really made up of pure light, but more of glowing ribbons that seemed to have wrapped around her invisible form in order to create her current visible figure. Other than the oddly noticeable ribbons on their body, I also happen to notice that they were female. A familiar one at that, but due to the lack of recognizable features, I am unable to recognize who they were.

"trouble...W-wow." I stutter in amazement, as I watched the ribbons dance and shift around their body, "That's amazing!" They giggle and bring a hand to their unseen mouth in amusement before returning to their serious nature.

"Thank you for that, it took a lot of work to put this together," They slightly smile, "But I'm not here for you to admire my abilities and looks. Even though I am quite fabulous, this pressing matter is much more important and frankly, I just don't have enough time to explain." I tilt my head in confusion, "What do you mean you don't have enough time? What is it that you have to tell me?"

"Your daughter. You're hearing her voice aren't you?" The voice asks. I nod, "Yes, that's why I called out for her. Is she here? Is she alright?" "No, she is not here and don't worry, she's safe." The light reassures. "Oh thank God." I sigh in relief, "So what does this have to do with my daughter?" "Time. That's what and it's not only your daughter that I'm talking about Becky. I'm also talking about everyone else you hear." "W-what?" I stutter, "What are you talking about?"

The light sighs in frustration and generates an orb in her left hand. "Here, let me show you." She replies before launching the orb up to illuminate the room. Once it reaches the top, the room that we were in lights up and reveals to me through the sound of hissing, what she was getting at. It was my true demons, and for this entire time they had been latched onto the walls of my mind and were watching us!

I feel a shiver go down my spine at sight and sounds as I watched the demons screech in agony at the light as it eradicated them from my mind. "It's okay, pay no attention to them. They aren't the true threat here." The light figure reassures to me as the last of my demons melted away. "Wait they aren't?!" I ask shocked, "T-then, what is?!"

Without saying a word, the light extends out it's right hand and points down at my feet. Confused, I looked down and not long after, scream. My feet were no longer there, but instead were sinking into a puddle of that same black liquid that the demons had left behind.

Panicked, I begin to struggle and try to pull myself out, but to my dismay it only seemed to make things worse. To try and stop my struggling, the black ooze shoots up black, sticky webs that latch onto my arms to try and pull me down further into the unknown void.

Despite this, I continue to struggle and scream, but unfortunately it only seemed to make things even worse and the light could see this. "Stop moving you idiot! We're already low on time and you're only just making things worse!" The light yells at me as they ran over to my side. "Stop?Stop?! How can I possibility stop when I'm being eaten to death?!" I scream as I continued to sink. The figure sighs and pitches the bridge of its imaginary nose. "Oh for the love of God Becky, stop being so dramatic. You're not going to die."

"I-I'm not?" I ask as the ooze reached my stomach. "Yes, you're not. The ooze is actually trying to help you. But that is besides the point, we're-" "Wait it's actually trying to helping me?! How and why?!" I interrupt. The light groans, "It's bringing you back to consciousness. That's why I asked if you were hearing your family. It's a sign that you'll be conscious soon."

I feel my body relax to her reassuring words and while I did stop struggling against the ooze, something was still bothering me. "So..." I thought aloud as I moved my arms to hang onto the ledge. "If this is ooze is trying to help, why did you say that it was a threat?" "It's not, well to you at least," The light sighs as it knelt down to my current height, "but it is to me." "How?" I grunt as the disturbingly warm goo reached up to my shoulders. "Well," She chuckles with a sigh, "if you hadn't interrupted me earlier and if we had more time, I'd be able to explain." She pauses. "But unfortunately, we don't have enough time now. So... I'm going to have to resort to...other methods."

"Other methods?" I ask with a raised eye brow while grunting as the ooze reached my neck. "What do you mean by other methods?" She smiles down at me, before extending out a hand. "Take my hand, and I'll show you."

I look up to her and then to her hand with a look of suspicion, was she being serious? I was almost completely submerged in this shit and now she wanted to help me?! God, this girl was strange. Seeing my hesitation, she reaches her hand out further. "Please," She begs as the goo reaches past my chin, "we're almost out of time."

I let out a sigh of defeat to this. "Oh well, what have I got to lose?" I thought before reaching out for her hand. "Okay, gimme your hand." I ask. She nods, and without further ado, quickly grabs a hold of my hand.

As soon as her skin touches mine, a burning ping erupts from within my mind and I scream as I am being bombarded by multiple gruesome images. Images of the Scarecrow, Parker's murder, a bloody train and car wreak, and the worse of them all, images of Katrina and Oliver being tortured, beaten, and murdered by none other than the Scarecrow. The same man that had started this all.

"Stop!" I scream at the top of my lungs as the images continued, "Please! I beg of you! Stop showing me these!" "I'm sorry Becky, but it won't stop." The light's fading voice whispers into my ear, before they place a hand over my closed eyes, "And it will never stop, until you opened your eyes and see."

"Now open them."
