Chapter 31: A True Winner Isn't Always the One Who Crosses the Finish Line

Tank coughed as he got up and noticed Jamie on the ground, holding her left arm in pain and her leg caught under a heavy beam. He crawled over to her and got some of the debris off her.

"J. Are you okay?" Tank asked.

"Yeah. But I think my arm is broken," Jamie groaned.

Tank found some strong cloth and gently wrapped up her arm.

"Why did you take the blow for me? After all we did to you?" Tank wondered.

"It's not just about winning; it's only a victory if you have friends who stand by you," she answered.

"Jamie! Tank! Where are you?!" Max shouted worriedly.

"Dog-boy, are we glad to see you, sweetheart," Tank shouted when he saw Max.

He ran up to them and saw Jamie on the ground. He ran to her and cradled her in his arms.

"Jamie," Max said, near tears.

"Hey, I'm fine. The worst is a broken arm," Jamie assured.

Max noticed her leg buried under a beam and kissed her forehead.

"We're going to get you out of here," he assured then requested, "Tank, help me out here."

He nodded and they got right to work.

"Max, where are you? Where are you, Max?" Goofy called out.

He kept walking towards them, but he couldn't see anything.

"Maxie! Oof!" he shouted until he tripped on Max's skateboard.

"Dad, help us lift this beam off of Jamie," Max pleaded.

They all started to lift, but the place was burning down.

"Come on! We're about to be Baked Alaska here," Tank yelled.

They finally managed to get Jamie's leg out and luckily it wasn't broken.

"Ladies and gentlemen, it looks like it's all over," Chuck said.

They grabbed Max's skateboard and started towards the finish line, right behind Bradley.

"Wait a minute. I can't believe my eyes, folks. They are alive!" Chuck shouted as the crowd went wild.

"Huh?" Bradley saw them catching up and panicked a little.

He started to go faster as the others started gaining speed.

"Go for it, son," Goofy told him.

"You got this, Max," Jamie encouraged.

He nodded to both of them and Tank, Jamie, and Goofy hopped off, letting Max catch up to Bradley.

"That's some kid you got there," Tank commented.

"You're wrong, Tank. He's not a kid anymore," Goofy corrected.

"Oh, Team 99 is still in this race! Max Goof is making up the distance. He is taking the lead! Bradley's battling back as they come to the finish line," Chuck announced.

Max kept it up until he made it across the finish line first.

"Team 99 wins! Oh, I am stunned, folks! I just can't...I can't believe...I can't even finish my sentences. Oh, my! What a day!" Chuck exclaimed.

Max went up the stairs and accepted the trophy. Jamie ran up to him and hugged him tight.

"I'm so proud of you, Max!" she remarked.

"Thanks. And you said that you wanted to tell and give me something?" Max reminded.

"Oh yeah. Here goes," Jamie said, took a deep breath, and confessed, "I love you."

Then she kissed him right on the lips and he kissed back eagerly. The whole crowd went "Aww!" from how sweet it was.

When they parted, Max went, "Ah-yuck!"

He covered his mouth out of embarrassment, but Jamie just giggled. He smiled then pulled her close.

"I love you too," he told her.

She smiled so big and hugged him once again; she ignored the pain in her arm as she held him close. Then they noticed Goofy coming up to them.

"Congratulations, son!" he said.

He was about to hug him when they heard someone clear their throat; they turned to see Bradley.

"Congratulations, Max. I haven't forgotten our agreement," Bradley stated.

"The bet's off, Bradley. But I think you owe him something," Max pointed out.

When Bradley looked where he was pointing, he immediately became nervous.

"Brad! Hi, it's me, the guy ya let down," Tank smirked, walking towards Bradley.

"Hey, Tank, baby! Who loves ya, baby, huh?" Bradley tried to convince.

"You're goin' down like a four-cent pair of socks," Tank threatened.

"You and me, baby, all the way!" Bradley said nervously.

He tried to run away, but Tank grabbed him.

"Oh! A vacancy at the Gamma house. Takin' applications," Tank replied, stretching Bradley's uniform in the back like a sling shot.

"Okay, okay, let go of me, you big fat jerk!" Bradley yelled.

"Time to get on the last jet to nowhere!" Tank shouted.

He let him go and Bradley screamed as he flew straight towards the Zeppelin.

"No, it doesn't look good now. It's like I'm in a bad dream, and it just won't quit," Chuck said as the Zeppelin flew out of control.

"That's right, Chuck," Ken smirked and the screen cut off.
