Chapter 20: Getting into the Semi-Finals

Max, Jamie, PJ, and Bobby walked out of the hallway to outside in their blue uniforms. Jamie's uniform was like the guys except her shorts were shorter and her shirt was a short-sleeved crop top. They all looked around in awe at how the place was set up.

"Ahh, this is everything I dreamed it would be!" Max exclaimed.

"Same here!" Jamie added.

"This place puts the 'rage' in outrageous!" Bobby said, dropping to his knees and bowing to the place.

"No kiddin'! It buries what we're used to," PJ commented.

"All right, just remember. There's nothing here that we can't handle," Max assured.

"Oh! I seriously doubt that. We're gonna eat you alive, freshmen!" Bradley mocked, him and some of his other team mates in their red and black uniforms.

"Oh, Brad, we're quaking on our boards," Max snapped.

"Attention, would Gamma Team One and Team 99 report to the street competition platform?" a person said over the intercom.

"Hey, guys, that's us. Let's do it to it," Max said.

"Good luck, son!" Goofy encouraged, him also in his Gamma uniform.

"Yeah, you too, Dad," Max smiled.

"Hey-ho and whaddya you know? Welcome to the Sixth Annual College "X" Games," Chuck announced.

Max walked with his team and waved to the crowd. They cheered for him as they held signs to support him. But he felt he only had one fan that truly counted and he was dating her. He held her hand and she smiled as they made it up the platform.

"The contestants are gonna spin, twist, lunge and plunge like there's no tomorrow. Today's qualifying rounds will determine who will compete in the semi-finals! And now, let's see what's happening at our first venue, the skateboarders' street competition, from our man on the street, Ken Clark!" Chuck continued.

"Welcome, one and all. Today—" Ken started.

"Thank you, Ken!" Chuck interrupted then continued, "Word on the street is that there's a new kid in town who poses a threat to Bradley Uppercrust the Third."

"That's right, Chuck. And his name is—" Ken replied.

"Max Goof!" Chuck finished.

Everyone started chanting his name. Jamie hugged him, sensing his nervousness and he immediately calmed down and got ready.

"Hey, Tank!" Bradley said then whispered something in Tank's ear.

"This is it, man. Your competition," PJ replied.

"This is the big one, bro. Stay focused," Bobby added, handing him his helmet.

"You got this, babe. I believe in you," Jamie smiled, kissed his cheek, and hugged his neck, which he returned.

Then Tank took a little set of rockets and attached it to the skateboard for whoever was riding it.

"Just like we always do!" Bradley smirked.

"It's a little insurance, baby, with no deductible," Tank said.

"Crazy idea. You do the honors, Brother Goof," Bradley replied, handing the skateboard to Goofy.

"Me? Gawrsh! Well...sure!" Goofy agreed.

He walked over to the edge of the ramp.

"Well, well, what do we have here? Looks like there's been a last minute substitution," Chuck said.

"That's right, Chuck. Skateboarding for the Gammas is—" Ken started.

"Max Goof's father, Goofy!" Chuck announced.

Max and his team looked in confusion because this was so unexpected.

"It's patriarch and son pitted against each other in a battle of skill and dexterity," Chuck continued.

Tank lifted Goofy and placed him on the board.

"This is gonna be good," Max just smirked, thinking it was a clear win for him and his team.

The referee fired the gun, indicating for Goofy to go. Tank tickled him, making him go closer to the edge.

"Adios, compadre," Tank said.

Goofy went down the ramp and did his famous yell.

"Not bad. Looping out with a devil flip to a head butt," Chuck started, reporting everything Goofy was doing.

When Goofy got up, the skateboard landed on his head, but he quickly got back on it.

"He's up and ready to rip!" Chuck said.

"Looks like Brother Goof needs a boost," Bradley smirked, pressing a button.

Immediately, the rockets ignited and Goofy was off.

"And a huge triple flip on the quarter pipe. Fifty-fifty slide uphill to a flip. What a lip slide to a hand-plant! Whoa nelly! Skating with the speed of a cheetah, that is gonna be time for Goofy. Oh, what a show!" Chuck announced.

"That's right, Chuck. Looks like the new kid in town is no match for the unbeatable Gammas and their newest member—" Ken remarked.

"Goofy! Let's see what the judges have to say," Chuck interrupted.

The panel showed the scores that each country was giving Goofy.

"Perfect tens across the board! Except for the German judge. Nine on that one," Chuck declared.

This really surprised Max. His father did that? How is that possible?

"Wow! Blown away by his own dad," PJ commented.

"Hey, quiet! I'm trying to concentrate here," Max lightly snapped as he grabbed his board and walked to the edge of the ramp.

"It's Max's time to skate. And...here he goes! Ooh! Starts out big with a half cam across the box jump," Chuck replied as Max started.

Then Bradley got a mirror and reflected the sun off it. It distracted Max to where he was off balance and slid down the ramp.

"Losing his balance to a knee slide. That is going to hurt his score unless he does something big! Okay, comin' to the quarter pipe. Tail-grabs to a lip slide on the rail to—" Chuck continued.

Then Max went off balance again and fell down hard.

"Oh, that has got to hurt," Chuck commented.

"Max!" Jamie shouted out of worry.

"Come on, Max, get up!" PJ yelled.

Max looked around and he got back on his board.

"He's okay! Let's see if he can end strong," Chuck announced.

When Max went up the ramp, he was doing a hand stand with one hand on his board, which was vertical. (A/N Every time I see that trick, I'm always blown away. Who's with me?)

"Quick flip into a one-handed stall. This is a new one. I have never seen this move, folks!" Chuck said in amazement and the crowd went wild.

He came down from it and kept going.

"It's back down into the transition. Sit 360. And...time!" Chuck finished as Max made it back to the starting point.

But the scores weren't as good. The highest he made was 6.5 as the others were lower.

"Wowee! With barely above a six-point average, Team 99 just makes it to the semi-finals by the skin of their teeth!" Chuck said.

Max was mad at himself. He felt he should've done better than what he did; he felt humiliated.

"Relax! It's okay, man. We're in!" PJ replied, trying to lighten the mood.

"Get real!" Max snapped and walked away.

"Witness, gentlemen, victory is ours. And most importantly, we taught our little freshmen foes not to mess with the Gammas," Bradley smirked, watching Max walk away in defeat.

Everyone chanted Goofy's name as they lifted him in the air. Goofy tried to get Max's attention, but Max ignored him and kept walking.

A/N Things went great for Goofy, but not Max. What can happen for father and son now?
