Burning- Alternate Ending
Alternate Ending
Henry had stopped at a payphone to call Jo and tell her what happened before turning and walking down the snow and slush covered sidewalk. Knowing Adam was still following him, though he wasn't quite sure why considering they weren't friends, decided to inform the other immortal about what Jo had said. "She and Lucas are meeting us at the shop... we can make funeral arrangements there."
Adam nodded in response and put his hands in the pockets of the armor Valdis had insisted he take after Master Vampire had been killed, her blood was now staining the lightweight yet durable metal. He waited patiently as Henry unlocked the shop, where Jo and Lucas were waiting outside of, and let everyone go in before him. Henry suddenly spoke up in a guarded and questioning tone that caused Adam to look up.
"Who are you?" Henry asked as he saw a small white-cloaked figure standing by the counter, its head bowed.
The person looked up slowly at them, a look of melancholy written on his young face. "I am Solrush."
Jo stepped forward and knelt down to look the young boy in the face. "Are you lost? How did you get in here?"
Solrush's deep brown, almost black, eyes seemed to bore into her soul. "I'm so lonely... my mother's dead, my aunt and uncles are as well, and my cousins are here too... We have no one left who knows of our existence."
"You poor things." Lucas spoke up. "Where are your cousins?"
"Upstairs." Solrush said, glancing to the staircase. "They're shy."
Henry watched Jo and Lucas go towards the steps before he looked back down at the mysterious child. "How did you say you got in here again?"
Solrush grinned, revealing sharp fangs. "I never said."
Adam, who up until then had been silent, drew a dagger out. "What are you?"
"Alive." He turned a cold gaze upon him, his pupils beginning to glow red. "But all of you are missing one important question: why didn't I mention my father being dead? I'll give you a hint, it's because he's in this room."
Adam and Henry glanced at each other, examining the other for any hint of further knowledge about the child before them. Solrush gave them a bored look, as they didn't answer him before letting out an impatient sigh as footsteps began heading back to the stairs overhead.
"Solrush Tepes. Cousin to Ariel and Remiel Tepes, children of Vetis and Molly." He informed them. "Must I just say the answer?"
"Your mother was Valdis." Henry responded as he took in the four-year-old child's stance. "But neither of us knew your mother for four years, you are too old to be ours."
"Death is a funny thing Henry Morgan." Solrush replied, stepping forward menacingly. "My kind grows fast, by a year I'll look two years older than I should until I stop growing, but because I died I got to skip my infant age. I should be only weeks old. Now answer me."
Adam lowered his head and glanced at Solrush, it wasn't possible, she would have told them, or at least him, but the way the boy before them held himself and how he looked left no mistake. "I'm your father."
"Why didn't she tell us though?" Henry asked.
"She didn't know. You just thought she was dying, she thought so herself. But Mother wasn't." Solrush explained in an almost rehearsed fashion.
"Care to explain how you're alive then?" Jo asked as she led a girl and boy down the stairs. "You three should be dead if your parentage is true, and how do we even know we can trust you if you've been staying in the underworld?"
Solrush saw Ariel's nervous look in her gray and orange eyes while Remiel tried to make himself smaller, only his amber eyes peeking out from his black hair. "What have you told them?"
Remiel flinched back from his cousin's scathing tone. "N-nothing."
"Just what they should know." Ariel replied more boldly as she glared back challenging him. "They deserve to know, you would have told them anyway... right?"
Solrush scowled at his slightly older looking cousins before avoiding everyone's gaze. "...Yes. Eventually..."
"Yeah?" Ariel continued her challenge. "When is eventually?"
"I didn't have to bring you back with me." Solrush growled threateningly, causing everyone in the room to tense up. "I could have left you in the underworld to suffer, but no, I had to be a good person and bring you out."
"Solrush..." Henry gave him a warning tone. "No one here wants to pick a fight with you. Just answer the questions and tell us why you're here."
He shot Henry a look before relaxing his posture and leaning back on the counter again. "Before the portal closed I ran these three through, you were too busy with your dying friends and the fight to see us, but the we came here and waited... That is how we are alive. As for why we came here... those two wanted to leave the underworld and actually live their lives, while I wanted to get revenge on the demons and not just those who killed my mother... I'm going to kill all of them."
"Large task for such a young child." Adam told him.
"Yeah, well, I won't stay small forever... It isn't like they could kill me anyway. I have the blood of an immortal in me, and a vampire. I'm like the ultimate hybrid at the moment."
"You don't know if genetics is the way it works." Remiel reminded him cautiously.
"I don't need to. Botis has foreseen it, he might be a serpent demon but he does not lie about the things he sees will happen in the future."
"So where will you go now?" Lucas asked as he felt Remiel still clinging to his leg. "You found your family if I heard right coming down the stairs, but you're still to young to go off and fight demons."
"That is why I am here. To see who wishes to go to Transylvania with me, Broken Tooth Mountain is near my family's home there. That is another weak point for demons to go through, Cerberus has even decided to help my family out by going there... I could bring back my mother possibly if she is trapped."
"You are insane." Ariel told him. "Remember what happened to Master Vampire, what we found out? It could happen to you."
"No, it can't. My bloodline is that of a vampire's already. I am the rightful king of Transylvania and Valac's place in the Underworld. Nothing can stop me." Silence followed his words for a few moments.
"Of course we will help." Adam finally told his son, still a bit undecided as to whether he liked the surprise of being a father or not. "Besides, I can't just abandon family."
Henry gave a sad look to the room around him, besides Jo and Lucas, New York held nothing for him now, and once they were gone he would be alone again. "I'll come too. Lucas and Jo are perfectly capable of working cases without me, I'm sure Sean will help them."
"Henry..." Jo started before trailing off with a nod. "I guess its goodbye then."
"We'll miss you down at the morgue." Lucas agreed.
"Very touching." Solrush mutter sarcastically before being smacked by Ariel.
"Be nice." She hissed to her cousin, who for once didn't make another retort back.
Adam waited until everyone was done with their farewells before turning with his son by his side. "Time to go then I would imagine."
"Yes." Solrush replied. "Time to go home."
