"Thank you, Riverperson," said Error, nodding to the cloaked being. They had brought him and Blue to the mainland, quite a ways away. It hadn't taken long to get there though, as the Riverperson's boat was very fast, quite literally running on the water.
The Riverperson nodded back at Error before leaving the two skeleton monsters with a cryptic parting statement. " Tri li li... Is he the enemy... Or an old friend? Tre le le."
"Oh, for balance's sake," grumbled Error. "Why must you be so mysterious?"
"Tra la la. Tri li li. Tre le le," trilled the Riverperson as they sailed away sedately, ignoring Error entirely.
"C'mon Error! We've got people to find, things to do, places to go!" Blue said excitedly. "I have no idea where we should go next, so what're we doing now?"
"That way," said Error, pointing to a snow-blanketed forest. It sparkled in the afternoon light, the thousands of ice crystals gleaming and glittering.
"So we're heading to Snowdin?" Blue asked.
"I'm not sure... I just know that what we're looking for is either within or beyond that forest. My Soul is telling me so."
"Well then let's go!" Blue said excitedly, running off towards the snowy forest.
"Wait for me, Blue!" Error yelled, chasing after the shorter skeleton.
Blue turned and looked at Error, waiting a few seconds to allow him to catch up, before darting off into the trees.
Error raced after him, for although he would've preferred to walk peacefully and enjoy the nature, he didn't want to lose track of his friend.

"Huh? What's up with the Snowdin Forest camera?" Lune wondered aloud, looking at the glitching screen. Her ear twitched, and she turned to look at the other monitors, swearing under her breath as she noticed the Observatory camera was partially covered by slime again. "I'd better make sure to ask Snow and Syrah to check out the one in the forest, I've got to clean off the one in the Observatory and feed the Amalgamates."
The six-tailed Kitsune pulled out her phone, claws tapping away rapidly as she texted the older skeleton sister of Snowdin.
FoxyLady: Snow, the cam n Snowdin Forest is out again. Could u plz check on it 4 me?
FrostFlurry: i'll go take a look at it.
FrostFlurry: pretty sure it's on syrah's patrol route, so it won't be much of a bother.
FoxyLady: Id do it myself but the Observatory cam is slimed again
FoxyLady: So I have 2 go clean it off >~<
FrostFlurry: oh, lovely. have fun with that XD
Grumbling quietly, Lune snagged her tablet and padded out of the studio, her claws clicking against the stone floor. She would have to hitch a ride downriver to the Core, and then walk a bit more to reach the Observatory- an abandoned lab.
She wasn't sure why exactly it had been abandoned, but it had made a good place for the Amalgamates to live when she had found them wandering the Core nearby, so long ago. It even had a lot of the medical instruments and tools she'd needed there, as well as some documents in a strange language she couldn't read- although Snow could, but the skeleton had refused to translate them, saying "Trust me, you don't want to know what it says."
She'd been trying ways to fix the Amalgamates for resets upon resets, but so far, nothing had worked. All she'd learnt was that they seemed to have a huge concentration of human Determination- or at least a huge amount for monsters, it was only a sliver of what a human would have- in them. Determination seemed to be very, very bad for monsters, causing them to melt and fuse into amalgamated monstrosities- hence why she called them Amalgamates.

'Welp. Better go fix that camera. It always seems to break,' thought Snow tiredly. She was so very sick of fixing this camera, it had broken so many times before, and always the same way, during so many timelines. At least she didn't have to worry about not knowing how to fix it, though.
"Syrah, I'm going out! Wanna come with me and help me fix the camera?" She called.
A crash and the sound of something shattering was heard from downstairs, soon followed by an excited yell of "YES! I'M READY!"
"Syrah, what did you break this time?" Snow asked, ambling down the stairs.
"I may have broken the yellow vase?" Syrah answered sheepishly.
"Eh, that's the ugly one. I never liked it anyway, it's fine," said Snow, levitating the many sharp shards of the absolutely hideous vase into the trash. "C'mon, let's go fix the camera. It's the one by the river."
Syrah nodded, picking up her sister- which caused a look of surprise to flash across the shorter skeleton's face- and running out the door.
As Syrah absolutely loved the river, Snow really should've expected this, but it still startled her every time the tall skeleton just scooped her up like that.

"Blue! Slow down! I can't keep up," gasped Error.
"If you can beat Ink in a fight, I'm sure you can catch up with me!" Blue exclaimed, not even slightly out of breath.
"Well, that's because Ink and I fight using magic! We don't just run for the sake of running," complained Error.
Blue laughed, but slowed down, walking back to the tear-stained skeleton.
Then, Error spotted someone in the distance, or rather, he could sense their magic. It was oddly familiar, frighteningly so, and he could feel his soul clenching in anguish as he tried to remember who it was. He could sense Snow's magical signature as well, but he didn't care about that. It was the other- Snow's sibling perhaps?- that he could feel in his soul, and their signature felt so wrong, but also, so right.
***
"Huh? Is that Blue and Error? What're they doing over here?" Snow wondered aloud.
Syrah looked at her questioningly for a second, but was more curious about the strange presence she could feel in her soul. Something that felt so right, yet so wrong, like something that had been missing had been returned to her, but it had been gone so long that the spot where it had once fit had changed, as had the piece itself.
As Syrah looked at the strange dark-boned skeleton, her eyelights flickered a dark blue. They were normally a rather lovely lilac, so this wasn't normal.
Snow immediately asked, "Sis, are you okay?" and Error looked somewhat shocked, before crashing.
The screen that popped up when he crashed wasn't the average 'Error.exe has crashed, reboot?' screen. It instead said 'Error 404. File Not Found. Search Again?' with the normal yes or no options.
They'd seen this once before, with Quill. But this time... it was different. Error's eyelights were flickering in and out of existence, switching between a soft green and a vibrant red. His soul was glowing so brightly, it could be seen though his jacket.
Blue hit the no button, and it made a small beep, before dissipating into glitch particles. The others just watched, rather confused.
As he rebooted, Error did something he'd never done before while loading- he spoke.
"Follow the lights," he mumbled incoherently. "They're the path... how do I get home... my best friend... where is he... what did you do to him?!"
His magic radiated pure, unadulterated rage, quickly followed by terror.
"I can't give up now... my soul, it hurts... no, wait, what are you doing to me? NO!" He screamed, eyelights glowing a brilliant red as he returned to lucidity. They dimmed, and he fell to the ground, panting. He trembled on the ground, seeming to still be scared of something.
"What was that?!" Syrah asked, curious about this strange, and rather terrifying, phenomenon.
"I don't know," said Blue. "But he's never done that before, or at least not that I know of. Normally, he doesn't speak at all when he's rebooting."
"Memory... it was a memory... Needle," mumbled the tear-stained skeleton.
In a voice that was not hers, Syrah spoke. "______? Come back... come back to us, please. You're scaring me, brother."
"Syrah? What's going on?" Snow asked, looking at her sister in confusion.
The taller skeleton's eyelights flickered, reverting to their normal lilac hue, and she looked back at Snow, just as confused as the other.
"What... what happened? I feel like I fell asleep for a few seconds," said Syrah.
"What happened? Why is everyone staring at me?"
"Erry, you had a really weird crash," said Blue. "You were screaming and crying, and talking too. Do you know what happened?"
"It was trying to access my missing memories, I think," answered Error, wiping tears of dark blue magic off of his face.
"Yeah, that makes sense," said Snow. "But I want to know what the heck happened with Syrah. I've never heard her speak like that, and I'm her sister... actually, wait..."
A strange magic surrounded the group, and Snow's eyelights began to rapidly oscillate between icy blue and a creamy yellow. Then her form began to flicker, as something that hadn't happened in a long, long time occurred. Finally, her form settled into that of a full Frost Fury, not her normal skeletal version, with icy blue eyes.
"Well, schist. It's been a while, haha. We've been sleeping for a long time, haven't we, Stella?"
A strange, semitransparent skeleton wavered into being next to the Fury, her creamy yellow eyelights sparkling like stars. She wore a starry, constellation-covered midnight blue hoodie, trimmed with soft cream fluff, and a classy yellow skirt, with soft, fluff-trimmed slippers the same color as the hoodie completing the outfit.
"Indeed we have, Eira," answered the skeleton- Stella, Error supposed. These must be the ones he had been told to find.
"Syren, sister, please!" Eira called, speaking to Syrah.
"Hey, Nova, wake up!" Stella added.
Syrah's eyelights began to spin through colors rapidly, going from dark blue, to magenta, to sea green, and back again as her form began to flicker. A look of shock crossed the tall skeleton's face as she began to splinter into three, her soul glowing brilliantly as it split into the three original pieces that made it up.
Three semitransparent, wavering forms surrounded the soul pieces- one seemed to be an being similar to Undyne, but with beautiful, iridescent pale violet fins that faded to white, and a generally more elegant appearance. Upon seeing her, Error whispered, "A siren."
The others both appeared to be far more normal, generic Papyri, with one appearing to be a female Outertale Papyrus, judging by the constellation-print skirt she wore-although boys could wear skirts too, if they wanted- Error mumbled something about "Outerbent"- and the other, well... the other caused both Error and Blue to gasp, although for different reasons.
Blue gasped because the dark-boned Papyrus looked so much like Error, but the skeleton also reminded him of Ink, in how he carried an enormous embroidery needle on his back, as well as wearing a belt- with small bundles of colored yarn attached to it- around his waist. The tall Papyrus also seemed to be missing the scarf, but the outfit he wore perfectly complimented Error's scarf... and Error had always told Blue that the scarf he wore was the one thing he had left of his original AU, and he knew it, even without memories to back it up.
Error gasped, instantly recognizing his brother in the depths of his very soul, despite the memories being missing. As he stared in astonishment, pieces of his memories began to flood back in. A huge amount were still missing, leaving gaps and broken pieces in his recollection, but really... he was just thankful to remember a bit of his past.
"Needle..." he whispered, still taking in the sight of his long-lost brother.
He'd never thought he'd have a chance to meet his brother, or even remember what he was like at all. And now... he had both.
But with the kind of luck Error has, good things never last long.
"Eira... how much longer do you think Chaos and Order can hold this magic?" Stella asked the Fury.
"Not long. Even though they are deities, this is an extremely touchy spell, and it can only last a little while. We're luck that Error found his way here, this only works due to all of us having familial soul bonds. And soon... it'll fade. So... say farewell to your brother, Error. He'll have to return to sleeping, just like the rest of us. Be thankful that you got a chance to see him, it was pure luck that Chronicle found this spell."
"Tell him thank you for me, please," said Error to the icy-eyed Frost Fury, before turning back to his brother.
"Needle... do you know what happened, that day when everything went dark?" Error asked, wondering about the last of the memories of his brother that had been restored to him- in fact, the last memory he had before the Anti-Void period.
"That's... that's the day you disappeared. Everything went black, and when the light finally came back... you were gone. Then, after we had finally gotten to the surface, despite you being missing, everything began to fall apart. Then I woke up in the Library."
"The library?"
"Order and Chaos's Library. The home of everything that could happen, has happened, and is happening. It's also located in the realm of sleeping Souls- the Dreamscape."
"That's Nightmare and Dream's domain, isn't it?"
Needle nodded. "They're Order and Chaos's Chosen, just like you're Lady Destiny's. Now, I promise, Thread, I'll see you again... but not until you remember it all. For now... I need to talk to your friend," he finished, turning to face Blue.
'Thread...?' Error wondered. 'Was that my name, before Fate took me?'
"You're Blue, right?" Needle asked Blue, who nodded. "Thank you... for taking such good care of my brother. I'm sorry that I couldn't be there too. Keep him safe, please... you're his second chance at a family."
"I will," said Blue, his starry eyes looking as hard as steel for an instant.
"Thank you," said Needle, fading back into particles of light.
The light joined with those of Stella's sister Nova and Eira's sister Syren, and recombined, recreating Syrah's soul, as her magic reformed her body around it.
Stella phased back into Eira, and the Fury's form shrunk, returning to the skeletal Frost Fury form of Snow.
Error could feel a new warmth in his soul, even after the strange, otherworldly magic had faded away.
