Scoring and review by SarahQuinnMcGrath:
Cover: (2/5) - While the artwork is well-done, this looks like a cover from a 1970s paperback or from a mood board. I just don't think it looks serious as a book cover.
Title: (3/5) - I feel like the title is just a little cliche. It's all right but not particularly memorable.
Blurb: (3/10) - I do understand this is fanfiction, but this is not a blurb; it's an excerpt. As someone who doesn't know the characters, it is not enough for me to grasp what the story is about.
Writing Style: (8/10) - The style was perfectly straightforward, a solid blend of dialogue and description. It was honestly quite dense for this reader, filled with info that, for someone with only a general knowledge of the Star Wars universe, was difficult to wade through. I can imagine someone very into this fanverse would love it, though.
Creativity: (8/10) - It's a bit difficult to judge creativity in fanfic, because you're working with someone else's characters and world; however, as far as I can tell, you've seamlessly woven your own character into the tale and have reworked the world to meet Kyra. That in itself is impressive and takes creativity.
Organization: (8/10): The length of chapters was daunting. A few were manageable, but I read only six due to time constraints and the sense that it wouldn't be fair to the other works I judged. Otherwise, the story was logically paced and well organized.
Accuracy of Genre: (10/10) - Normally I'd say this is fanfic before anything else, but as that wasn't a category option, sci fi is obviously next most obvious genre!
Hook: (3/5) - Well, the hook sort of got lost. I felt like it was the mystery between this secret love child and potentially her rivalry with Darth Maul, but then there were so many other things happening that I lost track of all that. I understand that this is due to it being a fanfic and the author wanting to tie in all these other elements.
Character Growth: (5/5) - I did see Kyra growing. I mean, in the section I read, she literally grew from a child to a teen, and her life changed a lot. I do think she was well rounded and developed.
Grammar: (10/10) - Impeccable.
Conflict: (3/5) - This wasn't entirely clear to me in the section I read. The story was by this point following the chronology of Kyra, building her backstory.
Immersion: (3/5) - The world building (or working with the material of the world) was awesome. I could tell that for a fan, this would be a super fun and immersive story. For this reader, I do apologize that I'm not a fan. I just couldn't keep things straight with all the names of characters, ships, places, and events with which I was unfamiliar.
Plot: (8/10) - I know the plot was building, progressing, held promise . . . Where I had to end, there'd been a lot of action but nothing quite leading toward a main conflict yet. Overall, it was an impressive read, though, and I could tell the writer has both passion and talent.
Total Score: (74/100)
