Hey, Look, Another OC!

12/14/17

(I had to sketch this before anything else sorry, sorry, sorry)

~~~~~
Galen...Annelise didn't know what to make of him. Though he seemed considerate enough, he carried himself in a taut, almost constantly-alert way; combine that with a serious demeanor that could rival Mathias's, and a lethal sense of awareness, she made a note not to do anything to get on his bad side.
They locked eyes—just for a moment. Annelise was taken aback nonetheless. She looked away first, tightening her grip on her chair. Gale lowered his gaze and traced the rim of his cup, utterly silent.
She tried to find something...anything else about him. But he revealed nothing.
Absolutely nothing.
*clears throat* *whispers* Was that excerpt good? I don't know if that was good.
Anyway...you guessed it! Galen's in the same story as Zay and Mathias. I've been writing a lot about him, and I absolutely adore his character in general. Whenever he's there, I really write—I'm almost astonished at how he flows so naturally onto the page compared to everyone else.
So? I thought to myself. Why not draw him out? Better continue my OC concept series on here anyway.
Gale's twenty-three. He's not exactly human, but certainly not a monster, either. His race basically is human, but their ancestors just so happened to be magical. Cat-like eyes signify the ability to use said-magic (which he has, of course).
Except he...can't wield his magic. But his twin sister, Bree, can!
We won't get much into that.
He works alongside her as doctors for their small village, and he's pretty different from his closest confidants; Xavier is, as you know a bit about already, very endearing and optimistic. So is Bree. But Gale is...well, not.
He's cautious, quiet, near-expressionless at times (some would say he's completely emotionless, but that's false on so many levels), shorter than the rest of the main cast (wait why did I put this here) (ah, i dunno, that could be an explanation for why he's a grump), and kind of a shut-in. He and Bree get along because...they're siblings. With Zay, it's a bit more complicated. They met in the most unexpected of circumstances (he, too, has been through a bit too much), and from then on, they've been toughing out all sorts of trials together, despite their differences.
If Gale says more than he needs to, however, it usually comes off very snarky, sarcastic, or downright apathetic. But he's trying to sound as genuine as he can! Really! He just...doesn't have a lot of nice experience to go on. It also doesn't help that he wants to sleep 24/7, and honestly same.
He's also kiiind of a hopeless romantic. About who, though?
*shrugs* Who knows.
Moving on...
Gale's not a fighter. Definitely not (the closest he'll come to a weapon is his handy pocketknife, for wood carving) (yes he likes to carve little branches and brood when he's down, did you expect anything else). After all, his job is to care for the suffering, and heal their wounds (physical and emotional) as best he can. It does no good to anyone for inflicting pain in the first place.
I'll also let you figure out why his hair's like that...
I just have to draw Annelise (that may take a while, though...) and the whole main cast of this story will have been vaguely introduced.
And finally, fun fact!
He and Bree are the biggest plant geeks, with good reason, too. Show them a flower or herb you've picked off the forest floor, and they'll list you its name and all of its medicinal and floral properties, how little or how many they have. Gale, in particular, favors jasmine, ferns and purple roses, while Bree absolutely flips at the sight of a lily (stargazer, tiger, anything, really). It's why she wears one in her hair.
Simple? Sure. But they have their preferences, and they love them either way.
