=>It Won't Be Long<=
"Her vital signs are good, and miraculously, her damaged organs are starting to heal little by little. You should consider yourself lucky, Mrs. Adams.", the doctor explained, making the other people in the room beam with happiness.
"Thank you, doc. When will I be getting out of here?", she asked softly, but there was a hint of enthusiasm in her voice.
"Based on our diagnosis, you might be able to get out of here in about 2-3 days, since, as I stated earlier, your organs are healing much faster than anticipated.", the doctor added.
"Thanks, doc. For all you've done.", Paul said, and the doctor bowed his head with a smile.
"Just call me if you need anything.", he replied, and left the room with his charts in hand.
Another person stepped into the room, and she caught Mary's attention immediately.
"Mary?!", the woman remarked.
"Gina!", she replied, and Kathy's mum ran to her side. She had brought some of Mary's favorite food.
Afterwards, Kathy stepped in. She, too had brought Paul's mum some fruits for her to enjoy.
"I'm so sorry I wasn't able to visit sooner. Here, I cooked your favorite dish for you and your family to share.", Gina spoke softly, and Mary smiled. She missed her best friend.
"It's good to see you, Gina. It's been so long.", she replied. Her eyes landed on Kathy and her jaw dropped a bit.
"My, my, Kathy, is that you?", she asked, and the young lady nodded, a blush forming on her cheeks.
"You've gotten prettier, if that is even possible.", she commented, and the rest laughed.
"Thank you, Aunt Mary. I'm glad you're getting well.", Kathy responded. Mary smiled.
"Well, you might wanna drop off the 'aunt' title, dear. You can call me 'mum' as well, ain't I right, Paul?", she spoke, looking at Paul and winked. Paul was flustered and that made them chuckle again.
"So, when's the wedding?", Mary inquired again. She didn't seem to run out of questions.
"Mum, I think we should focus on getting you out of here first.", Paul butted in, but Mary shook her head.
"No, Paul! You must plan your wedding ASAP so that when I get out, everything is sorted already!", she replied, earning a smile from the engaged couple.
"Yes, okay, Mum.", Paul said, calming his mum down. Kathy chuckled at his actions.
The two women got engrossed in their own little conversation. Samuel was about to leave the room but was pulled back by Gina, prompting him to join them in conversation.
"Let's get outta here while they're busy chatting.", Paul whispered in Kathy's ear.
Before she could even speak, he grabbed her arm and led them out of the room.
"Where are we going?", she asked, in between laughs.
"Shush."
They continued walking until they reached their car. Paul still remained silent about their destination, and it was driving Kathy crazy.
"C'mon, Paul. Don't be like this.", she whined, but he just snickered.
They finally stopped in front of a park named 'Strawberry Fields.' Kathy's eyebrows met in confusion.
"Um, what are we doing here in the local park, Paul?", she asked, but Paul still didn't say a word. Instead of a reply, he gave her a small smile.
He hopped out of their car and opened the door for his fianceé, who still had a puzzled look on her face.
He took her hand in his and they simply strolled until they stumbled upon an ice cream vendor.
"Want some?", he asked, and Kathy grinned like a little girl.
"Strawberry, please.", she spoke, and he approached the man.
"One chocolate cone and one strawberry cone, please sir." The man then scooped the ice cream into a waffle cone, and Paul handed him his coins.
"Thank you.", she said after he gave her the cone. They peacefully walked around the park, and couldn't help but notice the little children playing and messing with each other.
"I can't wait to bring our kids here someday.", Paul spoke, and Kathy stopped licking her ice cream. She looked at him with admiration.
"Paul...", she trailed off, and it was his turn to stare into her hazel orbs.
"Are you ready for kids?", she asked, and without second thought, he nodded.
"Wow, you've really grown up. I'm proud.", she teased, and Paul just put his arm around her. They spotted an empty bench and sat down for a while.
"Y'know... the day my mum and yours announced that we were arranged married, I have to admit that I was shocked.", he spoke, after finishing his cone.
"Yeah, so was I.", Kathy added. They both chuckled.
"But, I gotta say, I was really excited about it... y'know, tying up the knot with you.", he remarked, and she paused, feeling a blush emerge from her cheeks.
"Wha-what?", she stammered, and she mentally cursed herself for being so awkward again.
"Yeah. I had the biggest crush on you back in school.", he mused, now looking at his hands, smiling widely. Kathy still looked dumbfounded, now tomato red.
"I thought you disliked me since you always teased me back then."
"Oh, you were always naive to my hints.", he replied. Kathy remained silent, still fighting the tint of red appearing on her cheeks.
"Remember in the 7th grade, when I almost kissed you? You said you were unwell.", he stated, and Kathy squinted her eyes a bit, and nodded.
"Oh, if you'd only known how hard it was to stop myself from leaning in completely.", he added.
"You jerk! I had my first period on that day!", she exclaimed, changing the subject and hit him playfully on the shoulder.
"Ow! Hey!", he fake-whined.
"You always did enjoy making fun of me, didn't you?", she asked, and he smiled.
"Until now, actually. You look absolutely cute when you get mad. It's hard to take you seriously.", he replied, and Kathy cocked an eyebrow, making Paul burst into a fit of laughter. She tried to keep a straight face, but ended up chuckling, as well.
"That's why it crushed me when I heard you moved away. I thought I would never see you again.", he added after calming down, meeting her gaze. Kathy's laughter died down, and was touched at his words.
"Well, I'm here now.", she responded, and Paul smiled at her. His eyes landed on her plump lips.
"You've got some on the side of your mouth.", he mused. Kathy then reached for her mouth.
"Where? Here-"
"Let me take care of it.", Paul cut her off. He leaned in slowly and kissed the spot, then moved to her lips, and suddenly, they were lost in the moment.
It wasn't a steamy make-out session, but rather a sweet kiss exchanged between the two lovers. They felt alone in their own world, as their lips moved in sync.
Kathy pulled away, and she leaned her forehead on his.
"How can you do that?"
"Do what?", the young man asked.
"How can you always manage to take my breath away, McCartney?", she asked again. He just grinned.
"I could ask you the same question, James.", he replied, pulling away.
They stared at each other for a while until Kathy felt something cold dripping on her lap.
"Sh*t! I forgot about my ice cream!", she cursed, wiping away the stain on her skirt.
"Typical.", he uttered, snickering at her carelessness which he loved so much.
"But that makes you even cuter, love.", he added, and saw the lady beside him turn a shade of red again. She quickly tried to brush it off and stood up.
"C'mon, let's go back to the hospital. They must be waiting for us.", she spoke. Paul just watched her actions amusingly, and followed her.
As soon as he caught up with her, she linked her arm with his, and pecked his cheek, taking him off guard.
"Thank you for this. Y'know, spending time with me.", she said sweetly, while Paul gazed down on her, smiling.
"Of course. I love you, my dwarf."
"I love you, too.", she replied, and Paul anticipated the next word.
"Jerk."
